Tamian | 29 comments Greetings all. My name is Tamian Wood. I am a graphic designer who creates book covers for small publishers and self-publishing authors. It seems like this group would be a good fit for me, but I'm new to GoodReads and not really sure of my way around. Is there a virtual place within GoodReads to hang a shingle and set up shop?

You can see my work at www.BeyondDesignInternational.com and drop me a line if I can help at designer@tamianwood.com

Kindly,

Brad C. Anderson (bradanderson2000) I'm a husband, teacher, writer and owner of the cutest dog on planet earth. Previously, I worked in the biotech industry where I made drugs for a living.

I write because I have these bloody stories in my head and they want out! My first book, Hammer of Amahte: Book One of the Triumvirate Trilogy was a blast to write, and I can't wait for my second one to come out (due later this year)

Rita, try making an outline of your story first...where it starts, what might occur in the middle, and where it ends...It will likely change many times as you go. My book is similar to what I outlined when I started, but there were many things that popped up in my head as I went along that seemed so much better than my original thoughts! But an outline helps to keep you on track when you're filling in the fluff.

I'm actually reading your MS right now Confessions of a Heretic: How a Right Wing, Fundamentalist, Conservative Pastor Became a Leftist, Liberal Heathen

On page 27 at this very moment, so I cant' say much about it, but so far your honesty is a stand out feature. (As it should be for something titled Confessions...)

All for now, I'm going back to read!

message 3030: by Robin (new)

Robin Tzucker (robintz) | 3 comments HI Everyone,
My name is Robin Tzucker and I have wanted to be a published author since I was eight years old (41 years ago). I teach fourth grade and love reading and writing YA books. I will read almost anything, actually, except horror/thriller type stuff. I had a short story published in an anthology of teacher stories a few years back and this past year self-pubbed a YA novel (Kindle only right now) called "Run Away Home" http://www.amazon.com/Run-Away-Home-e...
(realistic fiction). I'm still shopping it to publishers and/or agents but it's slow going.

I'm also working on another novel (futuristic), and try to resist the urge to add new books to my Kindle on a daily basis.

I used to say there was no such thing as too many books, but we are packing to move and boy, I do own an awful lot of books! Not even including all the ones I keep at school for my classroom.

Nice to meet everyone!

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 848 comments Hello

I am Alex, I am an avid reader and just published indie author. I am from the UK.

I have just published (via Amazon Kindle and Lulu POD) the first book of "The Light Beyond the Storm Chronicles" which will, I hope be a series, book 2 is in the edit stage and book 3 is WIP. I am looking at probably 6 or 7 books including novellas and small asides. The genre is dark adult fantasy/fantasy romance/erotica.

My reading habits are varied, I like fantasy, historical romance, sci fi, classic horror, classics, some comedy, true crime and mystery.

Lady Ellen what age range is your fantasy set?

I'm Martin, come from the city that never stops raining (Van) and I just published my first YA novel. It was quite the journey to get here. I'm interested in meeting other new indie authors, hearing their own stories and just being able to read the works of various hidden talents. For me, discovering great stories from new authors is always appealing.

Tracy (ldglns) | 2 comments Hi, my name is Tracy Cross Lucas. I'm a short story writer-painfully shy and a master procrastinator. I'm hoping to get over my shyness of sharing and would love to share some stories and learn about new authors. I also love all types of books, but specifically: Horror, YA-post apoc, paranormal, nonfiction books about self improvement and exercise (not necessarily together) and just anything I can basically get my hands on. Thanks.

Book one Harmony was released in December of 2011, and book two Redemption is due to be released December of 2012. I also write humorous articles and when I can find the time book reviews.
Lady Ellen I love the idea you had for having the class read your book and then email you questions. I have 4 kids still in school (my biggest fans and greatest salespersons) and they have been talking with their teachers about doing the same thing. Crossing my fingers. It does sound like a lot of fun.

Hi, Sandee: I think you'll find that we writers have too many ideas of our own. The hard part for me is constant, persistent writing. Good ideas are PRICELESS, though, so I suggest you sit down and start writing. Choose your favorite story-line. If you also happen to have first-hand knowledge about your favorite topic, all the better! Cherish your own ideas, and make them come alive for the reader. Only you can do that. The best thing to do is just start. Oh... and I found that talking too much about what I'm writing reduces my motivation to compose the story itself. Talking, I think, reduces the inspirational tension, and tension drives the creative machine.

I would say the same thing. You have to just START writing. Then perhaps read over what you just wrote to see how it reads. For me, sometimes talking about my book with others INCREASES my excitement, but I agree... the most important thing is to START WRITING.

I'm a new author also [currently writing my first book]. But you can get tons of tips on writing and book marketing by searching the internet. One thing I've learned is one of the best wasy to promote your first book is to be writing your NEXT one.

Gotta be confident JoAnn!
