Ruth m Marmolejos-Garcia (ruth67) | 13 comments Hello, my name is Ruth M Garcia-Marmolejos, I am a new Author. My book titled, "Ruth Minerva" was published and released December 9, 2009.
Ruth Minerva is the story of a woman as she makes her life’s journey, encounters trials and discovers love and happiness. I tell of the time when Ruth Minerva is still young. Her womanizer father gets hit by a truck and loses his left leg, but this does not stop him from getting mistresses and money as well.
Growing up, Ruth Minerva is taken to New York City by her grandmother, and then her parents also move to New York. Ruth Minerva gets married and later encounters many bizarre happenings in her life, like hurtful possessive spirits. Her husband dies, leaving her and their children to survive on their own. Ruth Minerva discovers her spiritual powers and uses them to defend herself and her family. Ruth Minerva falls in love with a drug abuser who changes his life’s path. Together they stand strong and become stronger as years go by. I would like those of you who read it to leave comments.
I would also love to know about you.

Chérie Sues (CherieDeSues) | 6 comments Hello, I'm Chérie De Sues and I write paranormal and suspense romances. I honed my writing skills with newspaper columns, scientific journals and short stories, until I became a full-time author. When I do catch a break from writing romance novels, you can find me online speaking to fans on my websites. I shares my home in San Diego, California, with my Irish terrier, Reilly.

Laura Rittenhouse | 53 comments My name is Laura Rittenhouse. I love to read. That's been a passion for AGES. And probably because of that love I kept thinking I should try writing. In 2006 I did just that. I stepped back from a career in IT and pretty much became a writer. In Oct 2009 my first novel, Starting Over, was published.

I also love to travel. I've lived in 6 countries on 5 continents and am now on a trip that will eventually last one-and-a-half years. Sydney Australia is home and as much as I like to travel, I'm looking forward to re-settling there late this year and being a bit more domesticated.

Late last year I set up a website for myself and my book, www.laurarittenhouse.com, I'm afraid to say that though I like the internet, I'm not sure I could say I love self promotion. Hence my website is static. I really admire all you bloggers out there, I just don't seem to have it in me.

message 209: by Chérie (new)

Chérie Sues (CherieDeSues) | 6 comments Sometimes Laura, you let your novels do all the talking...I travel as well and thank the gods for my laptop and traveling internet connection. I have so much going on, sometimes it is difficult to pull myself away from the computer. A kind of addiction that something will occur when I'm not watching. Silly.

Good luck on Goodreads, I'm new and have already broken the rules. This is NOT Facebook or Twitter, adding new friends is frowned upon. I need to temper my enthusiasm...

Visit sometime at http://www.cheriedesues2.com and leave a hello comment.

message 210: by Laura (new)

Laura Rittenhouse | 53 comments Cherie, I don't think adding friends is frowned upon, just spamming to boost numbers for the sake of numbers. To prove my point, watch out for my friend invite :-)

Mainstream fiction. Zero overlap in our genres (or lack thereof in my case) but I don't see that mattering too much.

Kristin Nicole | 1 comments my name is kristin donaldson. i am a current reader and future author. i love to write and read they are my favorite things to do. i want to have a book published before i graduate college. so good thing i am still in my sophomore year in high school. the only thing that i have trouble with is my word choices and writing level. when i write i feel like i am writing on a 8th grade level. what can i do?

message 216: by Laura (new)

Laura Rittenhouse | 53 comments kristin wrote: "my name is kristin donaldson. i am a current reader and future author. i love to write and read they are my favorite things to do. i want to have a book published before i graduate college. so good..."

Oh Kristin, I don't know how to tell you to write for a different age level or even whether to advise you to. Remember, Booker Man prizes tend to be awarded to those who write for the literate crowd, and they are notoriously poor sellers. I have friends who say they like to read for easy entertainment and I think 8th grade level is what they are comfortable with.

As for aiming to be published by the time you graduate, that's a great goal, but don't be depressed or give up if it doesn't happen. It's not unusual for a "first" book to actually be an author's fourth. Just write and love every minute of it.

Good luck.

message 217: by Sa Toya (new)

Sa Toya (satoya) | 1 comments Hi I'm Sa Toya and an aspiring author. I am currently writing my first hope to be published novel.

I also love reading. The number of books I usually read, dwindled during my last year at university so I'm playing catch up.

When I'm not writng my novel, I write poetry and hubs on hubpages.com.

I only just found this site and am VERY glad I did :D

G'day to everyone, my name is David J Delaney and another Aussie, I would truly love to thank Marc Wambolt for the invitation to join this group, I hope I don't feel "out of place" amongst all the wonderful writers, academics & uni people here, I was 'kept down' twice whilst at school resulting in me being 15 when I reached high school where I stayed only 3 months then entered the workforce, I have never had any formal education in writing, all I have learnt in the literary world I have vitually taught myself over the past 3 years.

I actually don't feel I know a lot about Literature & my knowledge is very limited. I have only been writing & involved in the literature world since early 2007 & it was in mid november 2009, for the 1st time in my life I read Shakespear's sonnets then a small amount of info on the man himself before I wrote my 1st Shakespearean style sonnet, I will paste below for all to read, I wrote this not only for a competition but from reading how Shakespeare was a champion for the poor & did not fit well with the rich & well to do.

I love the poetry I am writing & love reading about other poets & their styles, though I must admit I am not a huge fan of free verse styles, I'm a rhyming poet & love all styles of rhyme.

Thank you again for your invite Marc.

David J Delaney. (Dave)

Sonnet no.1

The paupers friend

Now thou hast mingled with the noble class
but they’d not see in life that which I do see,
they hold their feasts', drink from their purest glass,
in finest mansions built beside the sea.
See not the homeless begging on the street,
nor in dark laneways, wet with cold they die.
See not the children sick or with bare feet,
nor for the measly thrown out scraps they vie.
If I could forward through the frames of time
to lands afar unheard of now by thee,
would not thine eyes view pestilence and crime,
would still there be fine mansions by the sea.
Where still are those who sleep in laneways cold,
where nobles, whom for wealth their souls they’ve sold.

David J Delaney.

Hello all! My name is Corey J Salter. I'm 27, and work full time in real estate (escrow officer, not agent). Shaun Thomas (trifthen) | 4 comments Hey everyone. My name is Shaun M. Thomas. I just joined Goodreads last month and boy, have I been making up for lost time! Still need to complete my book list. All I do is read and write these days, which is perfectly fine with me. :)

I've been writing in one way or another since I was 12, but somehow never finished any of my projects until recently. I've just recently completed and published Rabbit Rue, and am now busily working on the sequel. It's a mix of horror and sci-fi that mostly concentrates around how a demonic presence has taken over a small town and something of a dream/time vortex, which the main character must thwart.

Precious Williams (preciouswilliamswriter) Hi everyone! My name's Precious and I live in London. I'm a journalist and author with my first book being published by Bloomsbury this summer. My book's a memoir about my crazy childhood but my own reading interests run the gamut. Everything from thrillers to biography. Some of my all-time favourite authors are Charles Dickens, Alice Walker and Toni Morrison. I'm currently about to read "When Will There Be Good News" by Kate Atkinson. Lovely to meet you all!

Hi Precious,
Well done you!!! How the Sam Hill did you pull that one off? For a couple of years now they haven't even been looking at new authors and have even dumped some of their successful stalwarts, if a book didn't have 'Hogwarts' in it, the package or file usually didn't get opened! All I can say is your childhood must have been a bit more than your average 'crazy'. I know some of the staff as I am regularly in and out of 'Private eye' just round the corner. That is one hell of an achievemant young lady, and I wish you all the very best with your book, what's the title and I'll look out for it?

R. J. Hamilton (goodreadscomauthorrjhamilton) | 6 comments My name is RJ Hamilton, I'm a new author in Topeka, KS. I wrote this book while deployed to Iraq. It's a story told by the "hero", Brandon, an empath and telepath. Check out my site if you'd like to learn more http://rjhamilton.webs.com/ Being a new author is a lot more difficult then I thought it would be. I am an avid fan of Anne Rice and was seriously upset when she announced that she wouldn't be writing any more of the Chronicles, I just love her style! Thanks for your time everyone!

♥The Kat's Meow♥ (mamakat) Greetings!

So, just outta curiosity, is your To Read shelf longer than your Read shelf?

At least I know I'll never be bored.

Evan Fraser Greeting fellow book lovers,

My name is Evan Fraser and I’m an academic and author.

My favourite books include “Voltaire’s Bastards” by John Raulston Saul, “Guns, Germs and Steel” by Jarred Diamond, and Tom Holland’s “Persian Fire”. I’ve also been quite impressed with Steven Toulmin’s “Cosmopolis.” I particularly like work that is able to put current events into a broad historic context.

I am also an author myself. In 2008, I published a book called “Beef: The untold story of how milk, meat and muscle shaped the world.” (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/33...)

This was published by William Morrow, which is a division of Harper Collins.

I’m also about to publish a book called “Empires of Food: Feast famine and the rise and fall of civilization” (this is to be published by the Free Press, a division of Simon and Schuster). http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/72...

During my day job I lecture and do research on food security and climate change at the University of Guelph (in Canada) and Leeds (in the UK).

Yours truly,

Evan

I'm a avid reader and writer and as my moniker implies I rather live in a book zoo, or at least my office makes me feel as though I do most days. It's also very appropos that my last name means book in Spanish, but I can thank my husband for that.
I'm a published author and book blogger. See www.literary-magic.com for my blog and my recently published my first novel here: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/78...
The novel grew from a short story I wrote 25 years ago, so you see all you potential authors out there, persistence pays off!
I'm looking forward to hearing from group members and sharing all of our reading frenzy!

I wish I has your job Evan then I could tell these numpties who claim to be running this country to get off their fat backsides and do something about our sea defenses if they won't tackle climate change. I don't think they realise how much of what they,[and everyone else:] eats is grown in East Anglia where I live, and more land than people realise is already below sea level. I hate the things, which is how it all started!! I'm the resident U.K nut on this thread, I usually have too much to say! By the way I write thrillers and use 'Authors on Line' any cred. I may have acquired in that genre is about to go out of the window as I have a gardening book due out in a couple of months!!
Anyway, all the best, Paul Rix [oldgeezer:]

Donna Fasano | 28 comments Come on now, Paul...bananas aren't so bad. Especially if you top them with 3 of vanilla bean ice cream and gobs of hot fudge sauce.
I'll have to check out AuthorsOnLine. I am ready to upload my book to CreateSpace.com, Amazon's POD, and am just waiting for my son to finish up the cover (he said it would take him 5 min...that was 2 wks ago). Right now, my book is only available via Kindle.
So you're the UK nut? Is the USA nut moniker already taken? :::laughing:::
