Hello. My name is Adele Lassiter and I'm the author of the new conspiracy thriller entitled "Burden of Proof." The plot centers around a fictional biological attack on the U.S. and subsequent government cover-up. It is being published by Lone Mountain Press, a small publishing house in Bozeman MT and distributed via Ingram. In light of the recent tragedy in Haiti I'm pledging $1 of each paperback copy sold to the American Red Cross and .50 of each Kindle. I am enjoying this site and hearing suggestions about new books and meeting other booklovers.

Very thoughtful of you, Adele, to donate some of the money from your sales. Good luck, may you sell many!
I'm Abby Sallenger, an oceanographer and author of ISLAND IN A STORM (PublicAffairs, 2009). It's set in Louisiana, but develops lessons relevant to problems faced along U.S. coasts today. The story is about a hurricane that swept across a barrier island in the mid-nineteenth century, killing half the people there. It's a true story of the sea rising relative to the land—and the land changing in ways that made the island, and the people who lived there, vulnerable to a great storm. It's about the people who faced that hurricane, and how they came into harm's way by seemingly disparate, sometimes odd intersections of science, culture, disease, and agriculture. In the end, the book is about an island dying and what this means for the world's barrier islands in a warmer world.

Hello, I'm Jo. Nice idea for a group Vincent. Thank you.Does a novel about growing up in the UK in the 1950s/60s count as Historical Fiction? Anyone know the current whereabouts of the dividing line between Contemporary and Historical? Perhaps I'll post it in General and Historical and see if anyone throws their arms in the air.

This post is now historical?
If there is a rule already and they found something that contradicted what they states was true, would they change history books?

G'day I'm Cindy Vine, self-published author of three books, the latest just released, is The Case of Billy B. Available on Amazon as kindle or paperback. Besides writing, I'm a teacher in Tanzania.
Andy> I suppose that, technically, all posts become historical the moment one clicks postWould 'they' change history books? Maybe...if it served 'their' purpose!
It has been shown before, that info was found that disproved the history books and they tried to deny the new info. I suppose a looooot of written works would be rendered useless and untrue. It always makes my mind wonder; What the difference is between historical (the info is only factual untill proven otherwise) Non-fiction (based on truth, but only at that time, 'till proven wrong later) Even what is stated today, may be untrue. Would it be taken as fact in 100 years, because it's written down?

Thanks for the invitation, and for the initiative. I too have been thinking lately about how best to put new life into a novel that I published in 2002 without really having a good marketing and promotion plan at the time. Back then online groups were just coming to life, and the whole cyber community thing and social media were still only a seed in someone's imagination. Haven't we come a long way in a few short years? Anyhow, back then I went back into industry and have spent the last eight years working in an office, and bringing up my two children. But I have decided to give my novel a second chance, and so, here I am. Glad to see that the link is being drawn between the reader and the writer in this group.
I happily add my novel to this list, and invite all of you looking for a quirky novel, written from an unusual point of view, to read it.
The Cloths of Heaven is available at all the usual online stores.
I have just uploaded my google blog to Goodreads. The Writing Process does exactly what the title suggests but takes into account not only the technical skills that go into writing a novel, but also the hurdles and hindrances that get in the way of digging deep into the real emotional journey that writing is.

I’m Dodie Katague. I’ve written a creative memoir –
Cloyne Court (Three Clover Press)
about a college student moving into an infamous student co-op in Berkeley, California during the 1970’s.This coming-of-age story follows college student Derek as he begins UC Berkeley and moves, sight-unseen, to the Sodom and Gomorrah of any college living situation: a wild, student-run, counter-culture, student dorm called Cloyne Court. Derek discovers life’s lessons that aren’t taught across the street on campus. Sex, Betrayal, Drugs, Rock and Roll, alcohol, nudism, co-ed showers and wacky politics during the 1970’s make for a funny, sexy, and nostalgic read that is based on the journals the author kept as student there.
You can read sample chapters at my website at:

Hello, My name is Lakisha Spletzer and I love to write now that I've gotten the hang of it. I've had so many adventures rattling around in my head that I thought I was going to go crazy. It's a nice feeling to put pen to paper and write it all down.I do write books, in fact my first novel (which I'm self-publishing and comes out in a few weeks) called "Jewels" and is the first book in a series. I also have a YA book that I entered into the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Contest.
My name is Keoni Anderson. I am a first time author. I wrote The Darkling and so far spent close to $6000 in getting it ready to be publish. Now I am looking for places to promote it.
Catch an interview about Big Bobby Boom! and the marble mayhem and author Gregg Seeley on Blog talk radio 3 pm eastern time today!

Hi, Paul Rix here, HOW MUCH!!! I can't help feeling some one filled their boots writing out that bill, greedy sods! All the best Paul Rix [oldgeezer:]
Hello. My name is Ciara Townsend Cat for short. I love to read, i go to the library twice a week, an i am currently writing a series of books. I have not finished them or named them. i have good plots, likable and realistic chatactors. Many people tell me that because i am so young, that my books will never do well. i think that it doesnt matter what your age is. Do you all think it is possible to be young and write good, successful books? By the way my books have mermaids, fearies, vampires, werewolves, and deal with problems such as segregation depending on what creature you are, and also, one of the books features a girl with a lesbian friend. another is dealing with child abuse. just real problems among fantasy creatures. my idea may seem sort of crazy, but when the books come out, though that wont be for a while, it will be easir to understand
Hi everybodyMy name is Andrew Thelander and I live in Queensland, Australia. I have co-authored English textbooks for Swedish school kids but now I have had my first fiction novel published by BeWrite Books UK (www.bewrite.net). It's a bizarre tale surrounding the extinction of the Paradise Parrot, a beautiful little parrot that once nested inside termite mounds near where I live. But no more! It hasn't been seen since the 1930s. The plot also has a lot to do with the religious inclinations of kangaroos. It was great fun to write and people tell me it is great fun to read. For those interested, I do have a blog http://last-birds.blogspot.com
I'd love to read about your successes and favourites too.
Hi Ciara,Don't take any notice of them Cat, one of the best books around is called Rose Petal Tea, written when the author [Kally Highfield:] was still at school, about 15 years old, though quite how a sweet little thing like Kally who lives in Liverpool could know about the seedy side of life in Soho defeats me!!
A couple of points to watch, spelling!!! though I'm someone to talk! and things like 'i' should be 'I'. The spell check on your computer will take care of one and ALWAYS get a good editor to go through it before you publish.
All the best, Paul Rix [oldgeezer:]
Thank you very much. I'm actually not posting this from a computer but the Wii. It doesn't have spell check on it. Currently my work is in a bunch of notebooks and when I am satisfied that they are good, then I will type them up on the computer, but you are right, It's good to get into the habit now. Ms. Kally is still older than me though. I'm 13 but by the time the books are edited, published, and everything else, I will probably be around her age. And you are probably not an old geezer.
Hi Ciara,Wii!!?? ok, I know what it is, mobile phones are still hi-tec to me!!!!
I'm not that bad in reality, but tec definately is not my thing, although I started off in the army as a tec. Boy! that was a long time ago, the old bit is right, according to my grand kids!
You take great care of those note books, do it when YOU feel it is right, watch out for sharks, there are more in the publishing world than in the oceans!
I wish you all the best with your project, although I confess to being a little surprised at the normally adult topics you mentioned. At worst when you do publish it will be interesting to get a [relative:] youngsters take on these somewhat difficult topics.
I can tell you, holding that first copy of your first book is more than a little bit special.
All the very best
Paul Rix [old geezer:]
Thank you Mr. Paul for the advice. Some of the topics are adult, but are also dealt with among teens. The charactors are 15 going on 16. I personally have never dealt with things such as child abuse or anything from my last post, but my mother tells me that I do a good job. I was just wondering if anyone had tips on how to get past a writer's block.
Hi Ciara, I'll have to pass on that one, I retreat to my greenhouse or garden, if I'm really lucky I manage to escape and go fishing!!! I don't know if these activities really help or wether I use writers block as an excuse to indulge myself.
It's great your mum is so supportive, if you live in the UK and Winchester or Frome are in striking distance, get your Mum to bring you to a book festival and meet not only me but several others from the goodreads site, authors as well as readers.
Mr Paul!! I know it costs nothing to be polite, and you can hardly call me Grandad as 3 other young ladies your age or more do, so for on here Paul will do nicely thank you.
All the best [oldgeezer:]
Hi I'm Cleveland.I'm a creative writer who has covered most genre. Sound printing too. Poems. What more to say? I also review work for two main line authors .Fun.
Sherry,Your book sounds fascinating. Is it available in the U.S.? I love historical fiction. How much is fact versus fiction? With circumstances the way they are in the world I have become interested in learning about Islam. Your book sounds like a good intro. I'll take a gripping novel over a dry nonfiction any day.
Lady wrote: "Paul wrote: "Probably not, Anna. There is nothing to stop you adapting your work into a screenplay though, and marketing it to film agents exactly the same way you would with a book to literary age..."One main thought to keep in mind on the book/ film issue.Who is driving the story through? The POV is important. There are other considerations like is a Big Budget needed? How many characters are involved? Too many and the plot is sunk. Then there are the reasons for actions. Are they clear? Is there enough tension? How much conflict is there between the main characters? The plot is sunk if everything is too much like honey.
As a creative writer I've finished a fantasy novel that involves linking a series of mental images together. So there is a clue.Check the clarity of your book and ,of course, good luck. See you in Hollywood.
My name is Marguerite and I am coauthor of "The Tsar's Masquerade" under the pseudonym Raphael Mercikovsky. I wouldn't say I always loved writing but I seemed to have a talent for it. My coauthor approached me with an idea for our novel and I was hooked. It has been a journey filled with growth as a writer. I came from a journalism background where we learned to write, bottom line up front and tell the story in as few words as possible. When I first started working on the book I can remember writing and writing and writing. What was supposed to be a complete chapter was only three pages. It was very humbling to say the least. A few years later and over 1000 typed pages, our masterpiece was complete. Now I can whip out 30 pages in a single sitting. Yes, I'm a writer but I'm also a reader. I read "Gone with the Wind" at age 11 and was captivated by how a book can just take you away. Even now I will meet relatives who comment on how I always had my nose in a book. I love to read and I read just about anything.

I don't live in the UK. I live in a small town in America. Any book gatherings whatsoever would take a roadtrip to get to. I would love to go to one some day.
Hi Ciara [and mum:],You stay in touch, without young people like yourself wanting to write, things would quickly get into an even worse mess, book wise, than they are now. The industry needs you, and your generation to write exciting new stuff from a different perspective. When you are ready, get in touch, there are some of us out here who can point you away from the sharks.
All the best Paul Rix [oldgeezer:]
Aloha,
My name is Iosefa M. Manu, and I just recently published a novel. I'm originally from Hawaii, but I traveled a lot growing up as a Military Brat. After my book got published, I searched online for sites that would help me get some much needed exposure being that this is my first book. It was quite a roller coaster ride until I stumbled across this site looking for another author. The funny story is that we share a similar title, so I had to see what he was all about. It's amazing how accidents direct us on our path through life ...

Hello! My name is S. L. (Stephanie L.) Danielson. I've been writing since I could hold a pencil! I love to find inspiration in the daily dramas of life and turn it into a story. I write the m/m genre because I've always loved men, so it seemed a natural transition to write about men who love men.

Hi all: I'm Beatrice Gormley, author of many YA biographies and historical novels (listed on Goodreads). My latest is Poisoned Honey, a novel of Mary Magdalene. I wrote it because I thought the real Mary Magdalene must have been a much more interesting person than the "Mrs. Jesus" that Dan Brown and some others have imagined her to be, and also because I believed that the Church tradition of MM as the iconic repentant prostitute was all wrong. Now I'm working on a contemporary YA novel with an element of horror.
Hello all!My name is Richard Cody. I'm a writer, and a reader, of poetry and fiction. New to Goodreads and, of course, to this group.

Hi Sherry! I remember reading about the uproar around The Jewel of Medina. Pretty scary--I admire your courage. The worst that's ever happened to me is having some of my books barred from schools because the stories involved magic.
