H Joseph Horacek | 9 comments I also started writing fiction when I retired from a medical practice. I had accumulated a lot of material in my mind but never had the time to write fiction Since I retired in 2015 writing has been my main occupation. I, too have little experience with social media. Goodreads seems like a good place to start. I have finished the first book of a trilogy and now am facing the daunting process of planning its launch and promotion. I'm told I should have started this years ago, but better late than never. Welcome to the "Geriatric Novelist's Club!"

I pursued manufacturing there from 2010-13 because I didn’t get in till my sophomore year. I’m still in the manufacturing field with working as a machinist, plus working at Home Depot, but have branched out into other interests and endeavors. Next week on Thursday I’ll be appearing as a guest on the TV talk and variety show “Topic Time” with the host, Harrison Blake Young, to promote my writing, literary work, and discussing other things as well. So please check it out in Easton, Mass at the time to be announced. Then catch it off of YouTube from the Easton Community Access Television and Topic Time website. They are respectively a businessman, a missionary, a forest ecologist, a certified public accountant, a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, a MS in public health, with more to come. Frank Settineri (franksett) | 29 comments Good day all. I just published my third novel: Fearless, A Journey Across America (it's also a Goodreads Giveaway until the end of June). If you've ever wondered what the world was like between the 1950's through 1970's, this book is for you. Fictitious yet realistic, it follows the adventures of childhood friends as they travel across America to consul the widow of a Vietnam Vet. Funny, poignant, sometimes tragic, it's full of suspense, intrigue, friendship and romance. I think you'll truly enjoy it; I enjoyed writing it so much that I'm writing Part 2, to be published later this year. Thank you.

"Whether you want to relive your younger years in the 1970s America or understand where your roots are, how the past shapes the future "Fearless!" will grab you by the throat with expert ad copy
and editing is the nicest way I can say your description isn't punchy. Maybe you're book is great, maybe it is n't, you're sure being generous with it so I figure to say. Why would people wonder what life was like [insert time] and be willing to take their time and money to answer their idle speculation? You need to make clear to your reader WHY this book matters, why it matters to them. Plenty of old folks want to go back in time! Some people think a bit deeper and want to understand the sweep of history.I'm not a fiction author.

I'm fairly sure copy editing and book writing are two different skills. I still suck at copy editing and kinda hate it in fact but i know it's important and that it can be done well, so push yourself like I just did and rewrite your blurb plz.

um, you might be pretty, you might not, but the reader is into your story you might become famous some day but probably aren't

message 19835: by I.M. (new)

I.M. | 1 comments Hello, my name is Ian and I am the writer and illustrator of Mr Thinkalot’s Fantastic Space Journey, and Mr Thinkalot’s Spectacular Space Journey.

The idea for the character came from Doc from the Back to the Future movies, they do not look a like but there personality is similar.

I wanted to write a book that will help teach climate change and global warming in a gentle simplified manner. We hear so much about it, that it can be a worrying to many younger people. I felt the best way to do this, would be a character visiting other planets that have had to live with climate change, caused by global warming.

The book discusses many topics from war, global warming and climate change to healthy eating and recycling. It focuses on the positives and what simple changes we can all make for a more sustainable future on Earth.

There are different characters in the book that Mr Thinkalot meets on his journey. I have had positive feedback for the books and there stories. I was unable to afford a drawing tablet, when working on Mr T 1 so everything was done on paper. I wish I could of used a tablet for the first book, but it wasn’t a option. However I did with book 2, I am extremely proud of my books as I do feel they help with many worries children have on these subjects and to get them to talk and open up on how they feel about them, and to ask more questions.

To anyone who has purchased, read, reviewed or shared my books online thank you so much, it really means the world. You will hopefully enable me to carry on as a author and to write more books.

I am new to Goodreads so any help from other authors or groups would be fantastic, as I am not sure what I am doing if I am honest.

Thanks again.

Michael Frost Beckner | 2 comments Hi Everyone! I'm Michael Frost Beckner. Here's a bit of my story. A long time ago I received my BA in novel writing under T.C. Boyle at USC and had planned to set out in life as a novelist. Well, a lucky break in tinsel town turned into a full-tilt thirty-year career in film and television from which I'm only now catching my breath.

A few years back, I decided to ditch the schmooze and engage my muse.

So I've been writing books. Loving every minute of it, it's adding years to my life. I now have a trilogy of novels soon to be published this September.

Years back, planning ahead for this career change, I preserved all the rights to a film I'd written that wasn't very popular with studios, but I knew would be popular with audiences. It turned out to be a pretty big hit at the time and, twenty years later, is considered a classic in the espionage genre.

That film was the Robert Redford/Brad Pitt starrer Spy Game. My three novels that bookend the film are:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...

As I'm doing this without a major publisher, I would deeply appreciate finding some readers interested in receiving ARCs of one or both of the first two in exchange for posting an honest review to help me reach their intended audience.

Thanks!
Michael
