Goodreads Authors/Readers discussion
Introduce Yourself!
Hi book lovers!I'm Nina and just joined this group.
I joined Goodreads to promote my dad's first book, but now I'm here, I'd love to make some friends too and discuss books. :)
I will happily read any type of book, and love book suggestions, though my favourite genre is fantasy, sci-fi and historical fiction.
If there's anything in these genres that you think are so good I simply must read them, then please feel free to suggest away and I'll take note. My list of 'books to read/buy' is currently never ending...why not add a few more to the list, eh? :)
Books are life!
My name is Lisa Rothman and I am a new author and avid reader. I especially like anything that teaches me new ways to do things that make life easier. My book, Motherhood: The First 90 Days is currently on Amazon as an ebook. I hope my experiences will pave the way for other moms as they navigate this time of life. I look forward to hearing what other goals other writers have and how they incorporate their writing into their busy days.

Hey, I love novellas to short novels about horror, serial killers, dark fantasy, dark morbid fiction. So if you have any book along those lines Like Twisted Metal Black (Video Game) to HP Lovecraft like horror, I would love to hear about it. I am an author of the recently published book "Escape From Purgatory" This is a first-person account of an accused murderer trying to escape the torturous reality of his institutionalization and the nightmarish fantasy he’s unwittingly falling into.
Look forward to hearing from you guys and figuring out how to use these forums and site better.
Hello! I am a new romance author with my debut novel, Assure Her, scheduled to come out on Sept. 1. It is book one of a four part series of Rockstar Romances with the band, Assured Distraction. Come join the Austin, TX, band and the girls who love them while they deal with steamy hot sex, love, family, music and all the things you've heard about rock bands with some kinky action thrown in for fun! Watch for the cover release party and novel release with contests and prizes.
Hello everyone!I'm Danielle Ste. Just. Over the past six months I've self-published six short stories and one novel--The Winter of Springtide's Queen.
I write science fiction and fantasy. Right now I'm writing 2 novels simultaneously, one SF and one F. I've never done that before, and it's working out pretty well. As soon as I hit a snag (meaning, I'm not sure exactly what's going to happen next) I switch over to the other novel. That way I am writing almost every day.

Lenita, I think it's kind of funny! I never thought I'd be writing two novels at once. Thanks for the warm welcome, Lenita and Victoria :)
my name is Neal, I'm am from sunny england, I am a writer and am working towards this being my fulltime thing, my current book 'Origins of Power' is currently on Kindle and paperback, I have two other books, and yeah, thats me.
I am new to the group but not new to goodreads. I'm looking to do honest reviews in exchange for a copy of the book. I tend to read business, self-help, romance, exotica, and YA. I like true crime and drama. I tend to stay way from mystical and sci-fi.
Hi, I'm Holly (I write under H. B. Lyne) and I'm a fantasy author. I've been a member of this group for a while but I don't post much and I'm not sure I've introduced myself before.I write a series called Echoes of the Past. I'm just getting book 3 ready to release and am running a crowdfunder in July :)

Hello, Goodreaders. I'm a newly self-published novelist seeking reviews of my first attempt at fiction. I'm a very slow reader and so not a good candidate for a review swap, but I'm happy to send a free pdf of my book in exchange for a thoughtful, honest review. I also pen song lyrics and non-fiction. Just love to write! Goodreads is a brilliant place; so glad to be here!
Hi Everyone,I'm new to Goodreads. I have already written three books in the Dare to Change Life series (self-help) and am busy writing my fourth book. I self-published them in a mini-book format for my clients and workshops but they have never been available on Amazon. I will only publish the first one in ebook format on Amazon in September, and then the others after that. I have a lot to do in the meantime with regards to establishing my ‘author platform’ and working with social media etc. There is quite a bit more to a book launch than I knew about! Hoping to get some tips from this group.
Thanks for having me.
Best,
Millen

Wow, there are a lot of SF/F fans and writers here.
Hi Everyone!
I am new to the group and the author of Passion Surrender released this past January. I recently completed the second novel, which is a romantic suspense titled On The Run - Cain VS Abel. I hope to have ready for release later this year.
Everyone has been great!
Thanks!

Hi! I'm Mark Terence Chapman. Thanks for having me. :)I've written five sci-fi novels so far. The first three were traditionally published in 2007 and 2009. Sales were less than I hoped for. I got pretty burned out promoting and got nothing in return. So I took an almost 5-year hiatus from writing. I eventually retrieved my rights and self-published those books last July/Aug. Then I published my fourth in Sept. Encouraged by the sales, I decided to start writing again this year. My fifth novel releases on July 10.
The novels are:
1) The Mars Imperative (Hard sci-fi)
2) The Tesserene Imperative (Hard sci-fi/first contact)
(Both are available as a set, called The Imperative Chronicles; there's a third and final book in the series coming eventually)
3) Sunrise Destiny (paranormal/detective/alien abduction)
4) My Other Car is a Spaceship (Military sci-fi/space opera)
5) Aliens Versus Zombies (apocalyptic sci-fi/alien invasion; more SF than horror)
My Other Car is a Spaceship is a former Amazon #1 military sci-fi bestseller. Sunrise Destiny was a finalist for an EPIC Award in 2010. The two Imperative books are 4.3 and 4.6-star rated, respectively on Amazon.
BTW, if anyone is interested in Aliens Versus Zombies, I have it preorder-priced at 99 cents. After release day, the price goes up.
Thanks for listening! :)
Mark.

Hi there! I thought I'd introduce myself as the author-with-no-hair, because I pulled it all out last week, formatting Strangers Have the Best Candy for the Kindle. Whose idea was it to include so many of the illustrations, anyway? Oh, right, it was mine. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy the book, whether you choose the easy-to-carry eBook or the easy-to-color print edition!Margaret Meps Schulte
Hi everyone! My name is Tanya and I'm another author. I've written and put out a few books so far, which you can find here. I'm pretty terrible at sticking to one genre or writing for a specific age group, though most of my books have been YA urban fantasy so far. My next one is a more mature post apocalyptic sci-fi/fantasy. Just looking at all of these categories is a little intimidating, but I'm sure I'll find a fit eventually. Nice to meet you all!
I'm an author of mystery/suspense novels. I live in the U.S. and just published my fifth book. One of my books is currently free on Amazon. You can learn more on my blog.https://susansbooks37.wordpress.com/2...
Thanks Victoria and Lenita! Are there any other non-fiction inspirational or self-help authors on this group? I'd love to connect with you.
Hi: My name is Josh Truxton and I am happy to join your group. I am an 85-year young author and have been writing for about twenty-years, but I'm a novice at this. (I don't know how to post my photo & would appreciate your help) I am currently writing my 13th novel. Three of my books are e-published and in April of this year my 7th novel, "Alex, Peanut Butter and Me" was released in both digital and print form. I have a website: www.joshswritingroom.com and a blog: joshtruxton.blogspot.com I write historical fiction, family sagas, YA historical fiction and suspense novels. I enjoy reading suspense and historical fiction as well as non-fiction history, especially American Revolutionary War and Civil War. I look forward to the group's discussions on this and on writing in general.
Welcome Mark, Margaret, Tanya, Susan, and Josh! I will check out your books, Tanya, as I like to read and write fantasy.
Hello, my name is Stefan Emunds and I enjoy writing inspirational and spiritual blog posts and books.
Hi everyone, I'm Carol Anne from Devon, England. I am a reader/author and like most fields of literature, particularly historical romance.
Neat to see so many authors from around the world. I pen nonfiction - my newest is about former Amish who've left their plain world for the non-Amish world, Beyond Buggies and Bonnets: Seven true stories of former Amish. I live in Ohio, home to the largest number of settlements nationwide. It's thrilling when people want to get a greater cultural literacy about the Amish with my book.
Hello, my name is Tim and I am also new to Goodreads. I just published a book (Christian Non-Fiction Genre) and found this while researching how to best market my book. I look forward to learning of this community and participating in discussions. First question...When and where is it appropriate to mention your own book?

I find it has given me an enormous interest and enjoyment; just the research alone is often fascinating and often an excuse for a trip.( I am intending to visit Monticello for that purpose in the autumn.) I fully sympathise about lack of computer skills- mine almost invariably let me down. I am currently attempting to put a picture on Facebook! Younger people often don't realise the difficulties some of us have!
Hello everyone! My name is Zia and I enjoy creating stories. I have self-published the one most dear to me, "Number Eleven: A love story in 1960's Bombay". The book was inspired by the true story of how my parents met. I enjoy reading as a way to experience exotic times or places. That is what I read, and that is what I like to write.
Hi. I'm L.J. Loving the Goodreads experience and hope to be on here often discussing all these wonderful books! A quick question of any authors - how long did it take for you to be approved as a Goodreads author? I'm on Day 8, waiting for my application to be processed with baited breath
Welcome to the group, Carol, Brenda, Tim, Zia, and L.J!Tim: There are folders for each genre, so your best bet is to find the section for genre that best suits your books, and post in there (either on the "Welcome >insert genre here< authors and readers" thread, in a thread you create yourself, or both). Hope that helps.
L.J: I think it took a couple of weeks. Bear in mind that it's the holidays now too, so that might cause a slight delay. Wait for the 4th of July weekend to be over and done with, and then give a day or so for people to catch up with things, and if you still haven't been approved as a Goodreads author, send Goodreads a message. That's what I'd do, anyway.

I can't believe it took the publication of my first novel to get me involved on GoodReads; what an amazing community!
I'm J.K. I began reading at age four and haven't stopped since. My lifelong captivation with stories and words led me to a B.A. in creative writing, Last month I published my first novel, Blue Karma , in the trending climate fiction genre.
When I'm not writing, I'm reading (favorite genres are science fiction and historical fiction) running, singing with a local cover band, yelling at my baseball team, and hanging out with my fantastic family. I maintain a blog as well, devoted to science, science fiction, and the writing life.
Pleased to meet all of you here, and I look forward to further adventures on GoodReads!
cheers,
J.K.
