To answer your question, yes, there is a free sample available for both Kindle and Nook. If neither of these are an option, you can read the first chapter directly from my blog. I hope you enjoy it!
Hello everyone, I just joined this month. I am a published author currently working on my second novel. And I love to read, probably as much as I love to write. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone.
Hello All,I am the author of Forbidden Secret and Hidden Light. I write poetry as well as fiction. Forbidden Secret is a paranormal romance based book. Hidden Light is a book of poems.
I enjoy reading as well and hope to make new friends amongst authors/readers.
Forbidden Secret: Shadows Behind Locked Doors
Hidden Light
Hi all,I'm a reader and writer and live in New Zealand. I love being able to 'talk' to people around the world like this about one of my passions. I adore reading books of all genres and write Romantic Suspense. My first book was published late last year (still can't quite believe it!).
I notice a lot of people are saying they are 'only' readers - yet you are the most important part of why we writers write. Without you to entertain, where would we be? : )
Great thread idea. So neat to be able to connect. See you all around,
LaVerne Clark
I am the author of the 2012 asteroid-impact novel Regolith (sign up for the giveaway!) I have an autistic son, a masters in counseling, and I speak Spanish.
I have an autistic son and wrote a novel about the largest asteroid strike in 65 million years. Sign up for the giveaway!
Hi everyone! I'm Michelle. I'm a reader and a writer.Mostly, I write YA UF/Horror. My first book, The Book of Lost Souls came out in March. It's available at B&N, Amazon, Smashwords, & iBook.
The 30 second pitch: It's not easy being a teen witch. Just ask Ivy MacTavish. Her date for the big dance is really a lizard, a black magic spell book is missing, and a charming demon is offering to help make things right—for a price.
I read all kinds of books, but my favorites are: Young adult, urban fantasy, horror, and just about anything humorous. I've loved books all my life. Even as a kid, I'd rather go to the library than play outside.

Hi all. Writing and history are my passions. My greatest joy is writing historical fiction. My novel Tree Soldier is set in the Pacific NW during the Great Depression. I am also a working historian who teaches and demonstrates historical life, but also writes curricula for schools and national parks.
I love reading and i also love writing!! I dont write books but i would love to write one someday! I write all the time! I keep journals, but i absolutly adore writing letters!!
Hello All :)I am a new author with a recently released Middle Grade book titled Plain Old Kirby Carson. When I'm not writing I am working in the IT field, watching baseball (GO YANKEES) or BBQ'ing :)
I look forward to meeting and chatting with you all :)
Cheers!

Kerrie, I think we both love the same authors. I too, could not get into Patricia Cornwell, even though she is so popular. You say you are looking for a good mystery, clean, with loyal relationships. You might like to try my novel NO STONE UNTURNED. It is available on Kindle as well as paperback and has received good reviews. If you visit my webpage: http://outskirtspress.com/nostoneuntu... you can read a synopsis and slso go right to Amazon for ordering info. I would be happy to do the same for you if you have a book available. Good luck on your reading and writing. I'm now writing a sequel entitled NO GOOD DEED, as many of my readers wanted my main characters to continue on.
Greetings!I am the author of Boltman:
A hapless young man believes he is the incarnation of Boltman, a comic book superhero. On a quest to unlock the secret of Boltman’s super powers and complete his transformation, Kevin must rescue his sidekick, Ampere, from the clutches of Tommie Boy and the Church of the Mind, an evil celebrity cult of energy vampires. In his costume, Kevin is stronger and faster than anyone can believe; he becomes Boltman, but Boltman has a mind of its own. On the path to fulfill his destiny, Kevin begins to wonder if he is really just losing his mind, or if Boltman is a separate entity, bent on using Kevin for its own mysterious ends.
I'm a fan of many genres, particularly: superhero fiction, historical fiction, fantasy, science fiction and contemporary.
Hey everyone! I just joined this group, and I think it is excellent. I write fantasy books, but I love reading many different genres.
Greetings one and all :)I'm Tasha and I am an avid reader and an author.
Cat's CallMy book has just come out. It is YA, contemporary fantasy and is available on Amazon Kindle (UK for those in Blighty and US for the rest of the world), as well as in ePub format here on Goodreads.
Charlie Waterman is eighteen and until he is assaulted by a cat figurine and wakes up with a tail, he is boringly normal. Apparently he is supposed to be the Questor of the Cat Spirit, but no one bothered to ask him if he wanted to be. When destiny catches up with him he's two years late and past some mysterious threshold. Fighting to maintain control, Charlie's causing earthquakes and accidentally turning into a cat while asleep, which is plain embarrassing.
My favourite reading genres are horror, fantasy (contemporary and high) and SciFi, but I also have a penchant for true crime. My biggest weakness is vampires, I love vampire books, vampire movies, vampire TV shows (wow, do I have some stinkers in my collection ... 'vampire' seems to often be an excuse for 'dodgy', but I shall never forsake the fanged ones ;)).
One of my all time fav vampire books is The Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice. I can't read any of the books after that, but I think that one is a triumph.
My fav fantasy books are, hands down, the Belgariad by David Eddings - love them to pieces. They are my goto comfort books and I can read all five in a weekend.

Hope I'm not out of line here, Tasha, but I have a vampire/crime cross-over story, Bad Blood, that would seem to suit your tastes - it's a bit unorthodox though. Should you be interested, the details are on my profile.

Hello all,Unlovable, a YA romantic thriller, is available for purchase! I published Unlovable back in January as an Ebook. It has done so well I decided to make it available in hard copy. Thanks everyone! Unlovable was temporarily pulled from the market to give it a final polish, but mostly to reformat it for hard copy! Currently, it is back on the market in ebook format. At the end of April the hard copy will be up for sale also. Here is a synopsis:
17 year old Maggie Brown is the poster child for Heroin Chic with her jutting bones and dark-ringed eyes. But drugs are not Maggie's problem; her mother is. She's struggling with her feelings for the new guy, Seth Prescott, fearing he is just another person who'll let her down.
The young Seth Prescott's an undercover cop whose feelings for Maggie have become complicated, and he's tired of fighting them.
As he works to bring down the local drug dealers, Maggie struggles to stay alive as the hunt turns deadly.
Seth and Maggie's romantic journey is one of humor, heartbreak, and self-discovery.

Greetings. I'm Ruth Sims. I read a wide range of books, with a special love of biographies and memoirs, but write fiction. Most of my books, both published and w.i.ps are historical fiction, but my short stories are whatever they turn out to be. I adore the readers who write to me. Readers don't have a clue how much writers love to hear from them; it's better than sex. Well, no it's not, but you know what I mean.My published books are:
The Phoenix (Lethe Press, 2009)
Counterpoint: Dylan's Story (Dreamspinner Press, 2010)
Five current short stories as ebooks from Untreed Reads:
Burma Girl; Mr. Newby's Revenge; Song on the Sand; The Legend of the Mountain Ash; The Lawyer, The Ghost, and the Cursed Chair

Hi, Michelle. Welcome to the group! Your book sounds interesting. I write YA fantasy myself—seven titles so far in a series. You can click on my photo to visit my author page. (You might want to set up a Goodreads author page, too, if you haven't done so already.)
Good luck with your bookselling!

Well, hello to everyone!I am Audry Fryer, mom to three young children (including twins) by day and writer by night. My novel, "Going Barefoot in Greener Grass" is available at Amazon. It's a fun read steeped in the issues women face today in balancing a family and a career. Plus, it has some drama-filled moments as the two main characters find their friendship threatened by envy.
I'm following a long held dream to be a novelist. Before the birth of my twins, I had taught Pre-K and loved it. Since I've become a stay-at-home mom, I wanted a way to be creative with my precious free time. It was either create an spectacular virtual farm on everyone's favorite social network or write. Thanks to any readers willing to give this mom and this novel a chance :)
Welcome to the group, Audry, and the best of luck with "Going Barefoot." It sounds like a novel many women nowadays would appreciate.Congratulations~

Hi, I'm Kate - I've been writing for over thirty years. I realized my unhip credentials were mounting so decided to write about it. Little Guide to Unhip
However I'm not completely unhip. My punk novel, Fall Of The Flamingo Circus was published by Allison & Busby (1990) and by Villard (American hardback 1990). One day I will get it on Kindle. Skrev Press published my novels Seaview Terrace (2003), Sucka! (2004) and Break Point (2006) and other shorter work has appeared in Skrev’s avant garde magazine Texts’ Bones including a version of my satirical novella Lost The Plot.
Thalidomide Kid was published by Bewrite Books (2007).
I've had other short stories published and shortlisted including Hard Workers and Headboards, first published in The Diva Book of Short Stories and now published as part of the Dancing In The Dark erotic anthology, published by Pfoxmoor Publishing.
I also received a Southern Arts bursary for my novel Where A Shadow Played (now called 'Did You Whisper Back?')
My novels are in the main contemporary, character-driven and often in urban settings (UK).
I'm slowly getting my novels onto Smashwords on Kindle.

Our turn, I guess. Hi, everybody! My wife and I write together, under the semi-pseudonym of "Renée Harrell" -- which is a combination of our two first names. We've been avoiding Goodreads because this is exactly the kind of place where we'll spend too much of our time.
We write YA paranormal mystery ('Something Wicked' comes out this week), science fiction ('Aly's Luck' will be published in September...well, only in the UK but still), and hot romance (one novella so far, via Cobblestone, and the Moms refused to read it 'cause it was too sexy).
We like to read YA paranormal mystery, science fiction, hot romance, and comic mysteries. One of us thinks Lovecraft, Christie, and Bancroft are great, the other has a crush on Westlake, Heinlein, Hiaasen and Goldman.
But enough about us. What about you?
Darlene UnderdahlThanks for letting me do this Goodreads; here’s my pitch:
“If Dad finds out about this, he’ll go crazy. If he goes crazy, he’ll end up in the nuthouse and we’ll all starve to death.” That was how my mother forced my cooperation. “I’ll get you sent to the nuthouse” was a greater threat than “I’ll kill you.”
I rarely wasted time with self-pity. Although I was groped by a stranger my mother let into the house, and a drunken uncle, I never felt molested. My skull was broken by my brother (whose violence our mother encouraged), but I never felt like a victim. I accidently saw my father slaughter my pet calf, but I never hated my father. There was too much fun to be had playing with cats, dogs, and other calves.
Some people may compare this to Angela’s Ashes, but Frank McCourt and I shared only poverty. He starved; I at least had potatoes, eggs, and milk. Religion didn’t seem to intrude on his life much, but my mother spent two hours in church every Sunday, then came home and did the opposite. A young Scandinavian man told me I grew up in a “pocket” of old traditions; that modern Scandinavia was much different. Well, in reading Stieg Larsson, I’m not so sure…
I’ve changed the names of the living, and refer to myself as Diana. Narrative nonfiction is a good way to describe this memoir called Threadbare (www.vermillionroadpress.com). It’s well over 90,000 words with a few choice pictures.
Nice reviews would be appreciated (smile).
I'm Mysti Parker. I'm a full time wife, mom of three, and a writer. I read all kinds of things and write mostly fantasy romance. My first novel, A Ranger's Tale, was published by Melange Books in January 2011. Visit my blog, Unwritten, to learn more about me.

Hi All!I'm the author of, Don't Tell Your Cousin, (eBook, available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble).
It's a tale of a twisted and steamy love triangle involving two cousins and a married man, a grisly love affair full of deceit, mayhem, and shameful women. As the mountain of lies come tumbling down and the drama unfolds, Amanda is forced to hold a mirror to herself and come to terms with a reflection she struggles to accept.
I'm a newbie to GoodReads and I appreciate the support!
Thanks,

Vincent wrote: "Please introduce yourself! Do you write books? Do you just enjoy reading them?Let us know a little bit more about who you are:"
Hi Vincent and others.
I'm from Melbourne in Australia. I write humourous fiction. Sometimes I call it dag-lit (for more info, check out my author page). Other times I describe my stories as modern fairytales for the young at heart. I've recently published my first as an e-book and am excited at the possibilities Goodreads offers. This group in particular looks great so thanks for setting up!
Hello everyone, I've just joined the author programme. I'm from the North of England. I have been a part-time freelance for over thirty years (mainly plays for he BBC and educational publications) and finally gave everything else up to write full-time about three years ago. My most recent publications are a book of short stories published by Zymurgy 'We Never Had It So Good' and a contemporary thriller novel published by Wild Wolf '11:59' which was a semi-finalist in last year's Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. Both books are also available on Kindle along with a number of others inlcuding a book of quotations which I published a decade ago and have recently updated for Kindle publication in my Almost Free series. Two more things I'd like to say. First I have a regular blog Writer in the North which I'd love you to visit. Secondly, I have included the opening pages of my novel '11:59' on my author page and would be pleased if you took the time to read and comment on the extract.
Thanks.

Hi everyone!Wow, there are a lot of books and authors out there. I hope to find some new reads for me and for my book club. I am an author too, with seven books out (some of the older ones are now available as e-books -- http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_nos...) plus a couple of short stories in anthologies.
My newest book is Blackbird Fly, women's fiction + romantic suspense, set in southwest France. American Merle Bennett finds solace renovating her late husband's ancestral home, but a deranged squatter, unfriendly villagers, and secrets in the pissoir complicate her French summer. As one Amazon reviewer said: "There are dead bodies, lots of suspense and mystery, great characters, a bit of romance, but mostly it's just a great story! This is one of the best books I've read this year."Author Jenny Siler put it this way: "A heartbreakingly beautiful story of love, loss, sisterhood, and the ties that bind us all together."
I have a new short story out in e-book form in the anthology, Deadly by the Dozen.DEADLY BY THE DOZENIt's getting some good reviews and is well-worth the modest price of $2.99.
Thanks for the opportunity!

Hi. My book is The Burning Veil and it's inspired by my experiences living and working in Saudi Arabia. The novel is written in the spirit of openness and tolerance. I enjoyed so much about living in the kingdom, but I'm also a feminist at heart.
Hi,I'm new to Goodreads and am loving it (and spending far too much time here). My novel, Big Dragons Don't Cry, was recently published. See http://www.adragonsguide.com for purchasing information.
A cunning opportunist is inciting the people of Oasis to kill the dragon, their ancient enemy, so that he can convert the dragon's swamp into suburban housing. As a popular dragonslayer, he'll have the current Guardian assassinated and assume power. Unless the dragon unites with a terminally adorable kitten and a human female who reluctantly reads hearts and minds, Oasis is finished.
After reading and writing, my next favorite activity is talking about reading, writing, and joining with other authors, especially self-published ones, for mutual promotion and mutual benefit.
Addendum: for some reason, my full first name didn't get captured when I signed up here. It's Connie.

I donate all the net proceeds from the Canine Commandments to animal rescue groups, and have donated tens of thousands of dollars to date. If you are a dog lover you may have seen some of the 10 Canine Commandments somewhere already.
I'm currently working on two new books, a fantasy novel and a business book about synergies.
I'm looking forward to learning about what books people on goodreads tend to like and why.
