Shannon Peel (shannonpeel) | 34 comments I love reading and writing. My favorite books are strong character driven stories with flawed characters who change and learn something about themselves. My favorite books include Jane Eyre, Beloved, Game of Thrones series, First Law series, Inkheart series, The Book of Negroes and anything by Sidney Sheldon to name a few. I pretty much read everything I can get my hands on and there are only a few books I didn't finish once I started.

I love stories. I've always wanted to write stories and have tried over and over again over the years to write stories that were not mine to tell. I finally found a story that was mine to tell and was amazed at how fast it spilled out onto the pages for me.

I work in the real world for a social networking company from home, which works great with my ambitions to become a writer and my role as a mother.

Rachael Lucas (rachael_lucas) | 2 comments Hello! I'm Rachael, I'm a writer (my first novel, Sealed with a Kiss, is out now on Kindle and in paperback) and I am a reader - a voracious reader of anything I can get my hands on. Favourite comfort reads are Jilly Cooper and pony stories, Cold Comfort Farm and Anne of Green Gables. I'm finding Goodreads to be a lovely source of new reading inspiration and also a great place to escape from all the things I should be doing. Reading about writing counts as work, doesn't it?!

K.K. (author-kkharris) | 1 comments My name is K. Harris and I also am known by the name of NappyRedd30. I am currently a self-published author. I started on wattpad.com with no intentions of publishing but after careful consideration and a lot of inspiration from a close supporter, I took the first step to where I am today. My first story is titled 'Love Drug' with a follow up title of 'Mo Better'. I'm excited to get to know the in's and out's of goodreads.com.

Along with my writings I enjoy reading books of all genres. If I'm not writing, I am reading. If time permits I honestly do try and write detailed reviews on stories that I read. Very interested in getting to know other authors.

Much Love ~Nika~

Keith | 10 comments Hi! I'm Keith Yatsuhashi. Musa Publishing just released my debut novel, Kojiki. It's a fantasy loosely based on Japanese myth--thing Percy Jackson for grown-ups, or, if you prefer, Godzilla meets anime/manga/Shogun! :)

In my professional life, I'm Director of the U.S. Dept. of Commerce office in Providence, RI and work on our Global Publishing Team. I'll be at BEA for the 8th time. Like other authors here, I'm always looking for reviewers. So, if you're so inclined, please PM me! Thanks.

M. Howrose (m_howrose_crosten) | 5 comments Comment ça va?

I am currently writing a novel as a gift for my fiancee. Though I pride myself in my passion and dedication, I am a novice writer. I write for love and pleasure, though mostly for the former, as my fiancee is, undoubtedly, my biggest (only) fan. I have been urged to submit some of my crude pieces to various literary agents, but, as I am prone to timidity, I would wish to have excerpts reviewed by blunt, yet polite, and anonymous, but candid, readers. I write light fantasy with a dash of horror, and sometimes bordering on science fiction. If any would be so kind as to look over my work for me, I would greatly appreciate it. If not, here's to good reads.

Tami Egonu Hi everyone, wow this is a cool place to be. I'm Tami from London, though I moved to the NE of England a few years ago. I love to read as much as I love to write. I read a variety of genres and am always thrilled with great authors. There are so many fantastic voices out there that keep me turning pages. Anyway, I'm a new indie author (hurrah) and if you fancy a different kind of love story then please check out my book "A Rhapsody of Dreams". Looking forward to being here:-)

Jed (jed7) | 1 comments Hi!
I'm Judith from the UK and I'm an avid reader. I'd love to be able to write but I don't think that'll ever happen, so I'll content myself with reading the fruits of your labours! I love books of all genres, but the books I read and read again tend to be detective/ thriller writers such as Lee Child, Michael Connelly, Ian Rankin and Robert Crais and fantasy writers like J R Ward, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lara Adrian and Diana Gabaldon. I also like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, autobiographies, historical fiction ..........actually, I'll read pretty much everything!

in an IT Company and just like anyone! I have

recently written a book "Bhagavad Gita for Dummies"

the books are published as Ebook. Its also available

in Goodreads!

Truthfully, i am new to reading and i am new to

writing. However i would write something, which

every common man can relate to (unless its a Sci fi

:) ). I am happy to introduce myself and thanks for

the opportunity!

Poetic Flowerchild (poeticflowerchild) | 1 comments Hello, I'm Leslie, 33. I'm an avid reader and poetry writer. I've not published anything as of yet due to being a perfectionist and my own worst critic. I've read some of in public and received some praise but still a little scared.

message 5219: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Barbara Seaman Stewart here, I don't sleep... I work and I write! It's like a drug for me! Crappy day at work, come home and write something not so crappy :)

I write LOVE STORIES, not those hard body, sexy romances - I read those :) but I can't write them.

I'm told that my stories are "could happen relatable love stories".

I look at every word I write and every one that gets printed as an opportunity to do it better "next time."

I love self publishing because the only rejection I've gotten is someone who READ the book and maybe it wasn't there style, maybe it wasn't relatable to them, but they read it, I love when they read and give me HONEST feedback. I wish those who gave me 1 or 2 stars would tell me why so that I can learn, but I also know that not everyone will like everything I write.

Books, whether I read or write, are an escape from the everyday world... They take me to another world.
I look forward to seeing, hearing, and feeling what is shared in this group.

Thanks for the opportunity to be here!
Barbara

Jessica (glass_mountain) Hello,
Another newbie here - I'm Jessica Rydill, a fantasy writer from the UK. I had two books published in 2001 and 2002 and then there was a big gap!

I've just self-published my third book on Kindle and through Smashwords. It's an exciting if rather scary roller-coaster.

I'm looking forward to chatting with other indie authors and readers as I'm a total beginner.

Cheers

Hi Shannon

You post caught my eye because I also go for the 'flawed characters who change' type books! It's been the basis of my recent novel, Nutmeg (or From the Kitchen of Half Truth in US!)...can't say if it would be your type of book or not but feel free to take a look at my page as it might be a book you would enjoy.

Amber Lynn | 8 comments Hi Everyone!

I am Amber, an avid reader turned wannabe writer that has been writing for just over a year now. I tend to write things in the paranormal category, but have plans for a science fiction book in the near future. So far, I have five rough drafts done in one series and I am in the middle of proofreading the sixth book in my published series. It is nice to finally be able to get the crazy thoughts out of my head and down on paper. I have been self-publishing for only three months, so I still consider myself to be a newbie. There is a lot to learn and I look forward to learning and connecting with you folks.

J. Dunkin Hello to all you wordsmiths!

My name is Joe (J. Frank Dunkin). I'm from South Alabama, educated at Auburn university and the School of (especially) Hard Knocks, where I have earned two Doctorates :-). Seems I refuse to go down for the count.

I've writing since my prenatal days, most which remains illegible due to having been written in total darkness. But it was funny stuff, let me tell ya!

I'm retired now from the field of shopping center development (traveled constantly for twenty-five years), and have just finished my first novel, "BONES OF MY BROTHER" due out later this summer. My website is not up yet, but for now, I may be reached via e-mail at bonesofmybrother@gmail.com .

Additionally, I have a collection of short stories almost ready to go, two of which I am considering expanding to novella size.

Marketing is fun, isn't if? But writin' is "funner"!

Best to you all, new friends,
Joe (J.Frank Dunkin)

John D. (johntrudel) | 33 comments Hi, I'm John Trudel and I write Thrillers. http://www.johntrudel.com

I just got notice that my newest novel "Privacy Wars" won finalist for TWO National Awards.

The first was the Eric Hoffer Award itself.

“The Eric Hoffer Award for short prose and books was established at the start of the 21st century as a means of opening a door to writing of significant merit. It honors the memory of the great American philosopher Eric Hoffer by highlighting salient writing, as well as the independent spirit of small publishers.”

The second was The Montaigne Medal.

“Each year, the Eric Hoffer Award for books presents the Montaigne Medal to the most thought-provoking title(s). These are books that either illuminate, progress, or redirect thought. The Montaigne Medal is given in honor of the great French philosopher Michel de Montaigne, who influenced people such as William Shakespeare, René Descartes, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Friedrich Nietzsche, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and Eric Hoffer.”

I am deeply honored, and I want to thank all of you – all my fans, those who have hosted signings, and especially my critical readers and advisors. I could not do this without your help. Thank you for your help, and thank you for believing in me.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

I read multiple genres, but focus on fantasy. I've written four novels, three of which are fantasy. My latest is "The Seeker," released last month by Vanilla Heart Publishing Company. (There's a giveaway here on GoodReads for "The Seeker" ending May 21, 2013.)

While I grew up in the South and live in Georgia, three of my novels are primarily set in the Montana mountains. My paranormal short stories (Kindle e-books) are set in Florida.

Looking forward to some great books discussions.

Needless to say that I now have seven stories ( few with multiple chapters) and two recently released ebooks on amazon.
