M. Clifford (mcliffordauthor) Hi everyone -- I'm a new member of the group and excited to get involved! I'm an author and have written 2 novels & 1 novella. I'll post about each of them under the correct genres, but just wanted to stop in here to introduce myself properly. ;)

My historical fiction/time travel/romance/murder mystery/art forgery saga is called The Muse of Edouard Manet and is Volume I of The Time Chronicles of Emily Porterfield.

Then, I have a dystopian novel that's being taught in high school english classes right now that's called The Book. It's a modern take on the themes presented in 1984 & Fahrenheit 451 that answers the question of "what would happen if society was 100% paperless, all information was digital, and a corrupt government was secretly censoring and editing that information?".

The novella, is a follow up to The Book and is the *same* story, but told from the government's perspective. It has a long title, so for the sake of space, it can go by its shortened title in here: Propaganda from the Desk of Martin Trust.

My websites are:
www.dontreadthebook.com
www.thetimechronicles.com
http://mcliffordauthor.blogspot.com/

Ok! Thanks for "listening". Now it's time for me to go read some threads and get involved. Hope we all become friends. ;)

Thomas (TomStone) | 8 comments Hello all!

I write speculative fiction and science fiction, all fast-paced and entertaining. I've recently released five ebooks:

To The Stars Book 1 of "The Harry Irons Trilogy" Old school sci-fi story of exploration and intrigue.
Stolen Worlds Book 2 of "The Harry Irons Trilogy" More old school sci-fi.
Song of the Elowai Military sci-fi, an alien invasion story.
The Gender Wars Military speculative future. The title says it all.
Rolling Thunder Fast-paced action with solid characters.

Sample chapters may be downloaded (half of each book).

The third book in "The Harry Irons Trilogy," MINERVA'S SOUL, will be released later this year along with another piece about interplanetary drug trafficking, called, SMOLIF.

It's great to be at Goodreads, the best reader's site on the internet!

Claire Marie (clairdel) | 3 comments My name is Claire Marie de la Grange (www.lulu.com/sqp). I am a fiction writer and traditional poet living in Olympia, Washington. My fiction spans science fiction, fantasy, romance, and strange tales, always with strong women in the driver’s seat. I do not write erotica, sexually explicit prose, or x-rated material. I am not a prude, but there is a ton of sex-text out there and very little lesbian literature. Call me old fashioned, but I enjoy curling up with a book that actually has plotline. I like to ponder the bizarre, wonder what is behind the door, have goose bumps dance up my arms. I hope you do as well.

Joseph (jazzman) After many years of teaching(and enjoying it...mostly)I began three years ago to follow the path recommended to me since grade school;I became a writer. The tally has been encouraging: two collections of published stories(not self-published), a few finalists from Glimmer Train, as well as a Doris Betts and a Tom Howard/John Reid.
I may be the only writer who begins his signings with a bit of jazz piano improvisation to illustrate a point about the Arts; in all cases you don't know where you are going until you get there.
I'm looking for a group that appreciates the kind of writing done by Faulkner and Hemingway, Carver and Munro etc. In other words the type of writing that actually says something and in most cases predates the takeover of the literary magazines by the young(and largely untalented)MFA grads notable only for the sameness of their writing.

Katie John (katiemjohn) | 24 comments Hello. My name is Katie John and I am near the completion of my final novel of 'The Knight Trilogy' which is a YA /crossover series. The main themes of the series reflect my own life passions; Medieval History, Symbology, Mythology, Theology and devestatingly handsome and complex hereos.
I have been a teacher of English at a London Comp for 10 years and have come to realise that young adults are capable of accessing and engaging in very sophisitcated works.
I have always been an avid reader of Dark Romance and my work reflects this.

The main themes of my work are: secret histories, Arthurian Legend, Adventure & Quest,Egyptology, Knights Templar, Vampyres and family.

I would really appreciate the opportunity to have my work read and reviewed by members of this site as it is obvious that everybody who is involved is passionate and knowledgeable. I also hope to make some friends along the way.

My website address is www.katiemjohn.co.uk. Here you can read extracts. You can also find me on the Facebook page 'The Knight Trilogy'
Warm wishes

Olivia Darnell (oliviadarnell) | 6 comments Hello, my name is Olivia Darnell and I have one novel published at Amazon.com in both Kindle and paperback format. The Misguided Souls of Magnolia Springs is actually based on my hometown as I remember it growing up in the late fifties and early sixties. This could have been any small, southern town of that era. Some of the characters are based on actual people I knew, know and remember. Others are strictly fabrications or composites of the many people I've known in my life.
During my early years, my grandfather instilled a keen interest in all things scientific and he was always taking me downtown, carrying me on his shoulders and talking with the fellows at the babershop, jewelry store, dry goods, feed store and drugstore fountain where I learned to love root beer floats. I have a storehouse of grand memories from the small hometown I grew up in and felt that I had to write something special in appreciation. I hope that any and all that care to read my book can relate to the story and have a few laughs. Thank you. The Misguided Souls of Magnolia Springs (Volume 1) by Olivia Darnell

There. That's my plug. Now I can spend some time catching up with the group.

Valerie Long (valeriejlong) | 9 comments Hi all,
Dear all,
may I introduce myself? My (pen) name is Valerie J. Long, and I am a writer of erotic science fiction/fantasy action thrillers.

About myself
I was born in Germany in the sixties of the last century. I am working as an IT Project Manager for an international company, and I live in Wiesbaden.
I read a lot. My bookshelves are overloaded with surely more than 2’000 books, mostly fantasy and science fiction. Among my favorites are J. R. R. Tolkien, Robert Heinlein, Alan Dean Foster and David Weber, only to mention a few. You bet I’ve grown up with Captain Kirk and Luke Skywalker, but I’ve also digested “Barbarella” and “Logan’s run”…
I am a fan of Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez, I like Alien, Sin City or Kill Bill, but I also enjoy watching Notting Hill.
I also travel a lot. If you read my stories and think—oops, she must know that place well—maybe you’re right, I’ve been there before.

About my writing
Basically my history as a writer starts with my history as a fantasy role playing game master. Writing fantasy stories for role playing is a very good training for story plotting—players will inevitably spot any hole in your story logic.
I’ve written some very short shorts—some not more than one or two pages—until one day I joined a story contest in a German online community. Result was the beginning of “Lioness’ Heart” (in German, of course). It was a big success, but it quickly became clear that the story could not simply end with a murder. It had to continue.
One chapter a day the story grew. I’m in the fifth year now, and I’m still posting one chapter each day to my small demanding online community. Meanwhile I’m two books and about two thirds of a year ahead of my readers, and my ideas cover one more books that I yet have to write. My readers also demanded a printed version of my stories, and they got it.

Somewhere on my shelf you'll find my books, but those don't belong in my intro.
Cheers,
Valerie

message 484: by Timothy (new)

Timothy Hallinan | 6 comments Welcome, and congratulations on your courage in posting a chapter a day. A great, great idea.

I once tried on my site (which has a huge section about writing the novel) a writing-block buster called "The Dickens Challenge" in which people wrote (and posted) a chapter a week, as Charles Dickens did. About a dozen writers joined in. Most of them did great -- the pressure to write every week cut through all the dithering that people do when they're uncertain.

Would love to look at your site. What's the URL?

Timothy Hallinan

message 485: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Long (valeriejlong) | 9 comments My site is http://zoe-lionheart.net ... but you're looking for the story, right? Sorry, so far that's in a closed user group on a German board - and of course that story is in German.

I should consider starting over again, this time on my public blog. Hmmm - why not?
Cheers, Val

message 486: by Timothy (new)
