Faulkner?
Confederacy of Dunces?

A Life on Pittwater by Susan Duncan I really enjoyed her House at Salvation Creek, so easy to see and smell the world where she lives.

It's a good place to start with Hardy. It was one of his earlier works, and the others get much more depressing and complicated.
Bailey White is done so my library winter reading is done. Now I've started The Tiger's Wife for book club. Any opinions about this new author?
Cheri wrote: "Bailey White is done so my library winter reading is done. Now I've started The Tiger's Wife for book club. Any opinions about this new author?"I only read the short story version of the Tiger's Wife, and didn't like it, so I didn't bother with the book. Did you like the Bailey White?
Barb, did you like Owen Meany?
I just finished Rebecca, which was enormous fun.
Sarah Pi: Did you like the Bailey White?I do like like Ms White. It was great when she read her stories on NPR so I hear her lovely Southern voice in her writing. When cassette tapes were still around, I bought a set for my mom when she was ill and we would talk about her funny relatives instead of our dour ones. My mom is gone now but Bailey White is the good side of the family we didn't have.
Galileo's Daughter was a bit on the dull side. Some interesting stuff, and the women-as-chattel was very frankly portrayed. But that was about it.

Aww, Cheri. I love Bailey White as well.
Cheri wrote: "Sarah Pi: Did you like the Bailey White?"Yes. We listened to it on tape on the last roadtrip my family took together, when I was in college, so it's a memory rooted in a time and place.
Just finished Falling Immortality: Casey Holden, Private Investigator - Robert Downs. Now I am going to read Beginnings, Prequel to The Guardians of Vesturon - A.M. Hargrove.
I can't get into The Tiger's Wife and have to be finished by next week for book club discussion. Besides reading the reviews, can someone help me cheat?
I haven't read it, so I can't help you there. I'd read a bunch of reviews, and then at the meeting I'd probably yell "Is that poison gas?" and run from the room.
Seriously though, what are the consequences of not reading the book? Can't you just keep quiet, like everyone did in high school?

This book has been moved to the fall. The consequences of not reading the book is frowns from those that have read the book.
Lovely bird in #2880.
This morning I finished Beginnings, Prequel to The Guardians of Vesturon - A.M. Hargrove. Now I am starting Where the Bodies Are Buried - Christopher Brookmyre.

This is driving me batshit. Every character seems to have an overweening genetic need to beat the shit out of someone, or rape someone, or stab someone. WTF!

Wasn't the title kind of a tipoff?
Yes. But even the editor acknowledges in the introduction that Zola is being a little ridiculous with all the violent urges, that spring forth from nearly every character.
Hey guys, Alright so with this book becoming a movie soon (and with this authors ability to make me cry at the end of EVERY book), I decided to read The Lucky One
by Nicholas Sparks. I started it this weekend and so far so good :)
Finished 11th Hour - James Patterson and now going to read The Man From U.N.D.E.A.D. - The Curious Case Of The Kidnapped Chemist - Darren Humphries.
Almost finished with What French Women Know About Love, Sex and Other Matters of the Heart and Mind. Interesting stuff.
I will be starting Relic (audiobook), They Shoot Canoes, Don't They? (I need a good laugh), and The Lifeboat this weekend.

Not any more busy, just had some issues to deal with that left me disinterested in reading.
Death of the Mantis: A Detective Kubu Mystery I read his other two and felt like going back to Africa after reading King Peggy: An American Secretary, Her Royal Destiny, and the Inspiring Story of How She Changed an African Village

Mama Makes Up Her Mind and Other Dangers of Southern Living by Bailey White."
Yes! I will do this. Thanks! I really enjoyed
Sleeping At The Starlite Motel, And Other Adventures On The Way Back Home. Which one had the story about reuniting the dining room chairs and the aunt with the rock collection? All good.
