Oh dear, I had to abort Birdsong: A Novel of Love and War at 24 pages. The writing was just too leaden for me. But it did get rave reviews, lots and lots of raves, from respected organs like the NYTBR and the New Yorker, so maybe it's just me.
I'll just watch it on Mastahpiece Theatah.

Yes!
I just started My Life with the Great Pianists. Which is not about respected organs, but respected pianos.

I am seeing the play in a few weeks and thought I might read it first.

Unless those respected pianists also are organists. Anyone have a pipe organ I can play?

I'm only just reading the first one . It was a birthday present.

I liked the first one, second one was just eh and I am only on page 10 of the last one. Let me know what you think. Happy reading.

I would probably agree. I did not like the second one ending the way it did and not being able to pick up number 3 right away.

I'm still not sure ... it pissed me off in some ways, and was a compelling story in others."
Sounds like it will be a great book for discussion.
I finished Chopin, the Reluctant Romantic. It made me cry...Chopin's relationship with George Sand ended badly, he never returned to his native land, Poland, he went years without seeing his mother (or father, who predeceased him), and his last years were made miserable by tuberculosis before he died at age 39. I wanted to give him a hug.

i have that on my to read list, but i got sidetracked by a series.

I'm currently on "A Storm of Swords" also Amy, about half way through, and it seems to be holding up well. It is long though, so it seems I've been reading it awhile.
I haven't seen it. I don't know if I could. If they take any liberties whatsoever with historical facts, I get peeved. I'm not sure I want Hugh Grant forever associated in my mind with Chopin, either.

Oh, I suppose that would have helped :) 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus was the one i was referring to. I have heard good things about it.

I agree it's long, but so far it doesn't FEEL like it's going to take forever. I really liked Game of Thrones, but had a hard time getting through Clash of Kings, and was a bit apprehensive with this one, but I am enjoying it. I'm almost halfway through as well.

I am almost done with A Toss of the Lemon and am starting Fifty Shades of Grey and Tiger's Curse. I'm gearing up to teach more Faherenheit 451, Lord of the Flies and Romeo and Juliet this spring. So I'd better reread all those as well.
