Your next/current read?
I can't do it - I can't listen to Under Heaven any more. I'm not sure if it's the content or the narrator, but I keep zoning out and then having to rewind. So I'm moving on. I will start The Good Earth on my way home tonight.

It looks like Deliverance with nukes! :o
Jammies wrote: "I quite liked Miss Peregrine's.... Janice, do you want to borrow my copy?"Thanks for the offer Jammies, but I have a credit with Kindle, so will use that. :)
Can you read Miss Peregrine's on the Kindle? I thought it was very picture heavy... I'm mostly just curious to know because I have a Kindle and have been considering getting it, but anything that relies on visuals I usually get in book form. I was warned against trying to read A Visit from the Goon Squad on Kindle because of the powerpoint chapter.Correction: I remember seeing somewhere that it was picture heavy, and I could be totally wrong. The way I worded the sentence above makes it kinda sound like I've read it, which I haven't.
I have a few wishlists - Kindle, Audible. Maybe it's on the Audible wishlist. I guess if it is picture heavy, I would want to read it.Could I change my mind Jammies? I'll pm you my address.
I would have been very frustrated with A Visit from the Goon Squad if I had read it on the Kindle. I spent so much time flipping back and forth trying to remember what I already knew about the characters.
Yes, that book itself is a vindication of paper reading materials. Except for the power point chapter.
On audio, Those Guys Have All The Fun: Inside the World of ESPN and in hardback, Inside Scientology: The Story of America's Most Secretive Religion. Two things I am fascinated by, sports and religion.
Welcome to TC, Susieville!I'm reading The Jennifer Morgue and really enjoying it.
Hi Ficus! *passes a pitcher of MiracleGroTinis*

I don't know which to read next: Can't Buy Me Love or a biography of Janis Joplin.
Did anyone hear that Cobain's hometown is considering renaming a bridge after him?

Are you talking about Aberdeen, Sallers? I hear that's a sad town. If I were there, I'd rename the entire town Cobain and take in the tourist dollars.
Can a mayor rename the town? If I had the power to rename said town. I wonder how hard renaming a town could be.

I have listened to 6cd's of 24 so about 1/4 into it. So far, I have learned about the germination of the idea of ESPN, how it was financed, who the corporate players were, and what the operations were like in the beginning. Sprinkled in between the business stuff are stories about the San Francisco earthquake in 1989 and how ESPN was the only functioning media presence at Candlestick Park. Stories about the coverage of the 1983 America's Cup, when Australia beat the US. Also, it has touched on the struggles of women like Gayle Gardner and Robin Roberts breaking into a testosterone filled sports broadcasting world. If you like this kind of stuff, you will like it, RA.
I just finished a bio of Truman Capote that was really good--but I've never read anything by him. So today I got Breakfast at Tiffany's and it's really good. That's my current read.
I have reader's block. This has never happened to me before and it's disconcerting. I can pick books up and start them, but I don't care about reading them. WTH has happened to me??
Kristina wrote: "I have reader's block. This has never happened to me before and it's disconcerting. I can pick books up and start them, but I don't care about reading them. WTH has happened to me??"I have the same problem lately! I think my issue is that my house is a disaster and it's distracting me, but I can't seem to get motivated enough to do anything about it. Is there anything around that keeps distracting you?

Hopefully you will snap out of it quick, fast and in a hurry.
Amber, did you smoke more while reading? Just a thought, because I smoke way more while I'm reading. Not a clue as to why. If this is the case, try holding a straw cut to cig length. Sounds silly, but it helped me alot.Just don't let this be another reason to backslide!! You're doing so great!
Watchlist is my current read, along with many others. I tend to read one main book, and float in and out of many others.
