Erin (eecamp) Reading Travels with a Tangerine: A Journey in the Footnotes of Ibn Battutah.

Apparently, a person from Tangier, Morocco is called a "tangerine". Who knew?

Oh no, I would never advise anyone not to read it. You might not share my taste, after all. I didn't hate it.

I started reading A Test of Wills and it is sooooo boring. I may force myself to finish, I haven't decided.

Did you finish The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie? What did you think of it?

I never really managed to get passed that until near the end...then it was anti-climactic for me when I got there.

message 1059: by [deleted user] (new)

Too Fat to Fish was a disappointment.

Good and Evil In Myth and Legend is a bit dull and stilted...not sure if I'll finish it.

Thinking about trying The Golden Compass series next.

The only characters I liked were Paul and Betty Kasouras. I felt like they were the key to everything, they knew how we were supposed to interpret the universe. Now I'm wondering if I should read Miss Lonelyhearts, which Paul was reading.

Yes, I did. I thought it was cute and entertaining. I loved Flavia."

I thought it was a bit too implausible for my taste. Perhaps he will write the modern day Nancy Drew series, though.

message 1063: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) Yes, that was pretty funny, and all for an "experiment". :)

I think I've become a bit of a hard nose lately. I seem to focus more on the negatives in a story than on the fun parts.

I'm reading Mort. I've wanted to get into Terry Pratchett for a while. Mort keeps resurfacing as a recommended good place to start, so here goes.

message 1072: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) I'm going to start the audiobook Peony in Love this morning on my way to work.

message 1073: by Erin (new)

Erin (eecamp) Reading Kraken, my first book by China Miéville. So far it's pleasantly weird and confusing...and I'm over 100 pages in.

That's one of my favorites by Pratchett, Gail!

Quinn's Book. Not getting a good feeling from this.

message 1077: by [deleted user] (new)

Yay. Well once I finish, I'll come back to you both for the next TP to read. I am looking forward to a long love affair with TP.

The reviews seem to run the gamut, so perhaps the book just doesn't work for everyone.

My favorite Pratchett book is Small Gods, but the entired Death cycle, starting with Mort is great as well.

Right. I know some people love this stuff. I'm not that into magical realism set in 1849.

message 1081: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) I just started The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. The prologue was interesting. It remains to be seen about the remainder of the book. I've heard good and bad things about the book.

Sarah | 13814 comments I put that one down after a couple of chapters, having realized that nothing good could possibly happen to the dogs.

Let me know what you think of Kraken :)

I fucking loathe JSF.

I'm almost done with Old Gods Almost Dead.

Next up:

A return to the library to pick up my trusty copy (nobody else ever touches that beast) of TJ&TC

Or

Ben & Me?

Félix (habitseven) I just picked up Mark Twain's autobiography, vol. 1. It's a huge book that I waited 5 months for at the library -- and it's due back on May 19th with no renewals because of the wait list.

Think I can do it? It's like 4 inches thick.
