Okay, so if you've read the Paolini books (Eragon), even if you liked them, I'm sure you'd agree that they aren't exactly the pinnacle of literature, right?
I liked the first and second, but hated the third. Well, there are some jokers out there who are really upset by this! Ha!
Today I got:
"Unreadably annoying"? Ha! this wonderfull just like all the other books and anyone who says anything else is officially a numbheaded,litreture- hating, moronic prat.
As a post on my review. It seems (though this person clearly has literacy challenges of their own) that I am a "numbheaded, literature-hating moronic prat."
Never mind that I love Bronte, Austen and Tolstoy...I hate the third Paolini book! I should be drawn and quartered!!

Erm...I quite liked Eragon and Eldest. It was Brisinger I hated (3rd book in the series)...loathed actually. But, that's not really the point. I LIKED Eragon a lot, but I never tried to argue that it was great "literature" in any respect. Loads of people hated it and it wouldn't have occurred to me to think of them as "literature haters". :) It just makes me laugh that anyone could be that skewed with regard to literature as a whole. Fantasy is fun, and some of it can be quite well written, but broaden your scope a bit folks, because that genre is a sliver off to the periphery in the grand scheme of things!
The 4th book comes out November 8th and I'm not sure. It was meant to be a trilogy and I think if he wouldn't have padded Brisinger so awfully it could have been a trilogy and I may have liked it the whole way through.
Likely as not my ODC will compel me to read the last book. Maybe I'll get a nook just so I don't have to bother with owning the actual thing?

Wicked had to be put on hold, because my first "First Reads" book arrived. (That was fast!)
So, I have moved on to that.

It did look fun, Myles. I've only read the first story (Polycrates) and it was just okay. He tells it like a story rather than "History", a bit like Alison Weir but not as good. It feels like he takes some liberties, but I'm not sure and it doesn't flow very well. Just when you start getting into it he throws an extremely short chapter at you that is just a list of what some guy has in his make-up bag...
Hopefully the next story is a little smoother.

I'm currently reading, "PS, I Love You". That book is making me cry so much.
Then on to "Flowers of Algernon".
Then on to "Flowers of Algernon".

Is it in Dutch? Because, not very many of us speak Dutch...
Finally finished with The Life of Polycrates and Other Stories for Antiquated Children! It wasn't my thing...at all. But, it was different. And, it was free. :)
It just wasn't quite what I was expecting, but I read it through and reviewed it honestly.
I think I am very nearly finished with The Ghost Stories of Edith Wharton, so I think I'll go back to that for now.

I have a bookclub book to start on my nook: Drowning Ruth
I just got The Covenant from swap.
I have Siddhartha in my bedside stack.
Is Michelle reading Siddhartha? I just read it. I picked it from my stash because it was so skinny.

RA might enjoy the Wallander series, as Wallander is always pissing outdoors.

Since when is Chicago east of Virginia?

All the chick lit I've read goes the same way. Guy meets girl. Girl has some issues with obsession over the guy. Guy doesn't notice her. They bump into each other. They build a relationship. They break up. Toss in some family problems. They get back together. They skip off into the sunset. The end.

Hmmm...does paranormal romance and Urban Fantasy fall into this catagory? If it does, then I read a shit ton of chick lit.
I think they are distinct sub-genres. Chick lit doesn't generally have paranormal or supernatural characteristics. Chick lit includes authors like Jodi Picoult and Nicholas Sparks. Romance, couples, families, children figure large. Or it could be more like Candace Bushnell, sex and shopping.

Thanks Kristina! I'm looking for something that will make me laugh, so I think I'll give them a try.
