Michael Lewis (mll1013) | 128 comments I just published my first novel, The Orthogonal Galaxy.

Read a preview here and leave me a comment on my author page or my weblog.

I'll be writing a total of six books in the Galaxy Series, and would love to receive any feedback to help me hone my writing for each book along the way.

About "The Orthogonal Galaxy":

When a college professor's dream of discovering a parallel Earth is in jeopardy, an astronomical phenomenon sends a trio of research students scrambling to unravel a mystery that will lead them to the discovery of a lifetime. With a compelling set of data that yields more questions than answers, NASA turns to a pair of unlikely astronauts, who undertake a mission of staggeringly poor odds to learn more about the galaxy in which they live. The Orthogonal Galaxy is the first novel in the Galaxy Series by one of Science Fiction's newest authors.

John Walsh Hello All,

My novel THE YEAR OF SILENT LIGHT is now available on Kindle:

http://www.amazon.com/Year-Silent-Lig...

It is a SF/horror story told from the point of view of a small-town high school senior. When the cure for a virus that mutates humans into cannibalistic monsters is researched in his small town, Sam observes that changes and the confrontation with the leaders of a new elite who see humans as nothing more than a food source.

I wrote the book as a response to the post-apocalypse zombie genre. It's a sort of throwback to the quiet apocalypse novels like ALAS, BABYLON and EARTH ABIDES. While it has a teen hero, it is not a YA novel, and there is some gruesome material. It is really about the need to accept change, and how our hero and two girls deal with a situation that grows increasingly dire. It is greatly influenced by my work with at-risk teenagers.

I can provide files to anyone interested in reading the book, though I confess I'm not up on the "gifting" of Amazon books, and frankly am not in the position to do so. However, if anyone would like to read it for possible review, let me know and we'll see what kind of file I can provide you with. Thanks for your time.

Please do check out a free sample at any of these booksellers. You'll also find some more information about me and the book at my website, dennisingram.com. I'd love to know what you think!

Reboot

Commissioner Bellarbi's administration of the Information Systems Investigation Authority isn't going well. Jennifer Povey | 44 comments ...I could have sworn I posted here.

I'd like to present to everyone my apocalyptic science fiction novella "Mother," first of three novellas in "The Silent Years" sequence, available in all electronic formats.

Dorothy Mayling thought her worst problem was the long-standing family feud over her sister's choice of husband. Or her son's grades. Then the rumors started - bird flu in Seattle, SARS in Washington State? The truth is a hideous, terrible disease, one that slowly steals away the ability to speak and reason, turning people into nothing more than zombies. Worst of all, it was meant to be a weapon. Can Dorothy hold her family together as the world ends around them and people fall, one by one, to the silent plague?

The Silent Years Mother by Jennifer R. Povey

Quoleena Sbrocca (qjsbrocca) The Crossing Hour by Quoleena Sbrocca

The Crossing Hour
Quoleena Sbrocca

Imagine the experience if an early 19th century slave was to find herself awakened in the 21st century. What if she knew that in one year, she would have no choice but to return to her tumultuous past, or else history would be forever changed.

Time travel is a naturally occurring phenomenon, and the aged scientist, Stanley Graf, has discovered it in a planetary black hole in northern Delaware. Only those in his inner circle know of the existence of time travel. He appoints his granddaughter, Leigh, a psychology doctorate graduate, to await the latest black hole event. When the traveler turns out to be a 28-year-old runaway slave, Harriet, Leigh discovers there is even more to her grandfather’s theory and research than she knew. With the aid of her brother, Stan, an FBI agent in D.C., she slowly uncovers a world of secrets and mystery. Just when Leigh is certain she has uncovered all, a mysterious traveler arrives, and new secrets unravel to the end.

EXCERPT:
Harriet’s body tensed as she stood motionless, drowning in a furious wave of stark, blinding whiteness. Through burning eyes she cowered at the paralyzing scene: the brightness of the building, the strangeness of costume, the squeaking of shuffling feet on the stark-colored, glossy, hard surface; the loud, scratchy voice bouncing off the walls and echoing through the halls; the buzzing, the beeping, and the clicking of a thousand sounds she could not understand.

“Never been in a hospital before? Lucky you,” the driver commented, attempting to understand her reaction. He turned to offer his arm and found himself frozen as the glass doors opened and closed repeatedly behind them. For the first time seeing her in a clearly lit setting, he fell enchanted by the sheen of her chestnut skin. It seemed to shimmer and effervesce in its milky darkness as if emanating the light of all the stars in a galaxy.

Bruce E. | 159 comments I am Bruce Dunn and my book is "Pygmalion Conspiracy". http://www.grandchildrenoflemma.com/i.... It is available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Chapters/Indigo It is somewhat hard to classify. The reader can decide. Here is synopsis.

195000 years ago, the Tovazi, chosen of God, faced a challenger. The Tovazi decided they needed greater speed in space to maintain their supremacy. Since they could not remain conscious during near light speed, they opted to enhance one of the intellectually handicapped that could and then use them as pilots. To that end, they decided to employ eager scientists who had a chance of succeeding. Jeevra, a young research-design expert, along with biologists, and geneticists was sent to the third planet around a middle-sized star. Jeevra and the team worked brilliantly to reach the goal despite a love triangle, betrayal, illness, an attempted kidnapping, and the near impossibility of defining, much less achieving, enhancement. As they realized they might succeed, Jeevra and many of the scientists came to have misgivings about the governments plan to enslave enhanced aboriginals. Led by Jeevra, the scientists plotted to give those they enhanced a chance to choose their own destiny. The only way this could be made to happen would be to either get those they enhanced off the planet or hide them in the wilds of the planet itself. To get them off the planet to anywhere safe from the Tovazi, they needed a space ship. None were readily available so they would have to employ desperate measures to steal one. If they succeeded in that, they would have to find a way to stock they ship with supplies so that the newly enhanced could survive on one or more distant planets. On the other hand, if they decided to hide them in the wilds, they would have to teach them to survive on a hostile planet. Plus, if the Tovazi government discovered that the enhancement project had succeeded, the Tovazi government would expect to find them on the research planet. If they were not there, there was no telling what the consequences would be for the scientists and the Tovazi agents would almost certainly hunt the newly enhanced in the wild. No matter what they decided to do, it must be done before the Tovazi agents arrived. The latter third of the book tells how the scientists dealt with those dilemmas and the huge obstacles they faced from their own people and from their own morality as the Tovazi’s need for intelligent pilots suddenly grew.

Hello ALL!!

I am author of Pneuma. And I am having book 2 come out, Surge and was wondering if there were any bloggers out there who want to help me with the Cover Reveal?

I am planning for March 18, 2015!
And it is releasing April 24, 2015!

Also, if you are interested in reviewing the first book, Pneuma, let me know!

Here's a little summary:

The hardest thing, her best friends she has grown up with, won't remember her. Why? Because of her past and future. With the approaching dangers, she has to leave to protect her loved ones not just from the dangers, but from herself as well.

It's something I can't quite describe, but it has lots of love, action, drama, heart ache, and heart felt moments.

Message me on Goodreads and we can exchange emails/info!

Looking forward to working with you!

Shepherds

In the future, with the oceans dying, Olga is engineered from birth to live at sea and work for a giant seafood company. She is lonely and jealous of her married shipmates, thinking that she’ll never meet a man in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Fate has other plans and will drop an industrious, independent fisherman in her lap. That would be great except there are people trying to kill them both. How will they survive long enough to know if they are the perfect match?
Toivo is struggling trying to make a living catching what few wild tuna are left in the ocean and even though he has the help of two dolphins, things are not going so well. If he only knew the danger he was sailing into and what the fates had in store.
Action, adventure and romance wrapped up in a near-future science fiction account that might be possible and suggests one way that seafood can remain plentiful in the face of over-fishing.

Hard sci-fi, many twists and turns. Explicit torture, so beware. One of my favorite Amazon reviews: "This is a terrific story. I can't compare it to anything I've read exactly - it is, above all, intense, sci-fi noir, with the political/underworld intersections of Chinatown, and a tremendous twist at the end that takes it above and beyond all that steaminess into transcendence. It grabs you from the opening and never lets go. Entertaining, absolutely, but thought-provoking to a degree that will leave you walking backwards through the story to pick out all the implications. Very current, very timeless. A gem."

It's the future. Year 2094. The global government has eyes and ears everywhere, but not because they fear insurrection from politically-motivated citizens. It's because the fear the rogues - those who exhibit supernatural abilities. They hunt them. Imprison them. Execute them.

Silas Knight is a rogue. With minimal effort, he can casually wade through your mind, pulling whatever information he wants or forcing you to do what he wants.

But he doesn't want to be able to. He's tired of the voices. He's tired of living day by day constantly paranoid about the next attack. So when a wide-eyed hobo offers him a solution to his problems, a mysterious man who the global government seems paranoid about, even desperate to track down and wipe out, he follows, not having the slightest clue what he’s just stepped into.

My new book, Klubbe the Turkle and the Golden Star Coracle, will soon be visible and available on Amazon.com Amazon.U.K and Lulu as a paperback and as an E-book. Four paperback copies are open to be won in a Goodreads Giveaway, which begins today, Saturday, 21st, March, 2015, and ends on Tuesday, 21st, April, 2015. It is open for members of Goodreads in Great Britain, U.S.A. and Canada. Details of the Giveaway can be found on my Author Profile Page: http://www.goodreads.com/PHILIPDODD
Here is the blurb I wrote for the back cover of my book:

On the planet Ankor, Klubbe the turkle lives as a hermit. A marine mishap inspires him to be an inventor. His inventions and explorations change his life, his entire planet.
Turkles are close cousins of turtles. Unlike them, they have yellow golden skin and back shells, walk on their hind legs, have the gift of language, and the ability to create their own culture.
The life of Klubbe may read like a light-hearted science fiction story, but it actually happened to him. Princess Corka thinks his invention is sublime. Ubbtosh, the pyramid priest, promises to guide him to the core of the cosmos. In space, there are no sign posts, he finds, but there are other beings. And on Ankor, there are mysteries to be solved. Is the Great Glom more than a myth? And what about the Great Archy Eopta?

Jonathan Harbour (jsharbour) The Mandate of Earth by J.S. Harbour
The Mandate of Earth

This is my first novel, took many years to finish, now happy to see it on Goodreads and Amazon.

Jack Seerva, billionaire entrepreneur, has a lifelong dream to industrialize the solar system, to get humanity into space where resources abound, and eliminate the strain on the ecosystem and environment--perhaps even eliminate war. After decades of hard work, he has built a corporate empire--the infrastructure to branch out into space. His dream finally seems within reach.

Then the unthinkable happens--a comet impact craters an American city, a disaster that might very well have been the Extinction Event. Jack is convinced that he has a calling--a mandate--to preserve Earth's greatest achievement: human civilization. Seerva invests in promising startups and develops cutting-edge technologies. Quadrillions of metric tons of ores are just waiting to be mined. He intends to show them the way, to bootstrap humanity into space, where even one large asteroid has more ore than all the mines on Earth.

But, Seerva's unwillingness to play the by the rules draws the attention of rivals in government and industry, who are still driven by greed and power. Even with the promise of a golden age of prosperity, they would stop him to bolster their own plans. But, Seerva has no intention of playing their game.

As a new manned mission heads far from Earth, a terrible new threat is revealed. It's not a question of whether the human race has a bright future ahead, but whether humanity has a future at all.

Cary Neeper (cary_neeper) | 16 comments Here are brief synopses of the first three books in The Archives of Varok--set in an alternate 21st C. solar system to explore the human dimension and long-term solutions:

The View Beyond Earth
An uninvited figure dressed in space garb drops in on a Southwest Space Station promotional gala. After the gala he is seen driving off with microbiologist Tandra Grey. A few weeks later they disappear with her two-year-old daughter and are not heard from again until Earth’s 2051 moon explorer “Dove” crashes on the moon’s Straight Wall near Mare Nubium. When Tandra and her daughter return to Earth, their hopes for making a difference there shatter, and they find their lives soon redefined.

The Webs of Varok (Nautilus award winner)
Giving up on Earth is all too easy, until you realize your child is growing up with the promise of stability on an alien planet, which is under attack by the same sinister forces destroying Earth. Adapting to alien ways is less a problem for adaptable human Tandra and daughter Shawne than that threat, which also targets their mixed family.

The Alien Effect
Raised on an alien planet, the young human, Shawne, is determined to help Earth recover from a major tragedy. As a result, San Diego invites its surprisingly near neighbors to visit and provide advice. All goes well until the tragic complexities of human life create irreconcilable differences. Greed rears its ugly head, and the visitors are forced to defend themselves. Meanwhile, the Alien Effect erupts, with very long-term consequences.

"The best science fiction books tend to raise philosophical questions, challenge our beliefs, and open our minds with truths that reflect the foundation of our societies. Brian Dorsey's military science fiction novel Gateway follows these tendencies in a cinematic way..." --Fantascize Magazine. Fantascize.com

Tyler Stone has always been a loyal soldier, a good soldier, for the Xen Empire and—based upon recent events in his life—it seems as though the world in which he’s always lived has finally started to pay him back. A promotion, an engagement to a beautiful (and powerful) woman, and the restoration of his family's honor.
But this newfound prestige comes with a price, and Stone is soon ordered to carry out a fool's mission by a commander who is unfit to lead. Amidst the decimation of his battalion, his eyes are opened to the truth via a most unlikely source, a woman, from the same people who are his sworn enemies.
As he struggles to understand the nature of the war his home planet has been waging for so many generations, Stone must accept that his fate is his responsibility alone.
He is willing to die for his country; is he willing to kill for it too?

How to Stop Wildfire

http://www.thespineoftheempire.com/

This isn’t your normal science-fiction story set in outer space.

Does it have spaceships? A few. Alien races? Over thirty. Robots? Definitely. A guess on what a highly advanced civilization looks like? You bet.

But it also has: magic, dragons, gods, bored immortals, complicated theology, and an extraordinary universe.

Sounds pretty crazy for one book? It is. It is even weirder for our protagonist, an esteemed member of this crazy universe.

Enter King Fla’neiel: the last of his kind after a dangerous weapon with a vague name destroyed his entire race. When that same weapon surfaces on Earth, a planet filled with creatures called Humans that the rest of the universe’s empire of races looks at as entertainment, King Fla’neiel is propelled into action to claim it and destroy it. After years of searching for it he may have lost his mind but not his drive.

In his quest to avenge his fallen race he runs into two cheeky Humans, two dogmatic members of opposing guilds, two twin robots, two gods, and the infamous and ridiculous intergalactic outlaw, the self-proclaimed Evil King, Cyclone.

Matt Williams (sketcity) | 4 comments Hi Ya'll,

Here is my book :)

Sket City

The work by the author is nfluenced by the widespread drug culture, socioeconomics and cultural diversity of Brighton, England. The work written is self-described as the subgenre HowlerFicton, inspired by the popular style Gonzo Journalism, it focuses on the corruption of modern day society, fronted by mentally estranged youth protagonists. Written in third person, it is a style of writing without any claims to objectivity, which draws its power from a combination of real-life experience and self-satire, favouring a non-detached style therefore striving for a more personal approach. The genre’s tone engages in the harsher sides of reality; not limited to but including bloody violence, drug binging, mental issues and illnesses, alcoholism, rape, sexual abuse and addiction.
The shocking story of a fight for survival against the odds, by a group of youngsters cast adrift in a town that could be any one of our inner cities today. Here could be your children's future, society's future - OUR future if we don't change before it's too late.

If you're concerned at all for the future of your children, you may find it shocking, not only because of the widespread, endemic use of hard drugs which is prevalent throughout the story; but it takes place in the beautiful, picturesque seaside resort of Brighton. And it is happening NOW throughout our country in almost all of our traditional market towns.

The book contains probably the best description of a 'bad trip' you will ever read – together with valuable information on the destructive effects of modern drugs, written by someone who has experienced them personally.

On another level, it is a terrific adventure story: a bunch of no-hope drug addicts up against the kind of thugs and hoodlums that already haunt most of our inner cities; and through a combination of street-wise intelligence, improvisation and effective use of whatever resources they can find at their disposal, winning all the odds. But at what price?

PRICE: £2.99

15% of royalties donated to ‘The Sussex Bat Group’. The Sussex Bat Group was formed in 1984 to help conserve bats in East and West Sussex. The Group is a registered charity made up of volunteers who share a passion for bats. We are affiliated with the Bat Conservation Trust.

Bats are facing serious population declines across the UK. There is a bat group in nearly every county working to help reverse this decline.

Have a nice day :)
