Hi everybody, I have just released my new book in time for Christmas. It is "The Wise Men and the Star," Tentatively assuming the nativity stories in the Bible to be fact rather than fiction, I described how I uncovered a missing piece of information, which then revealed who the Wise Men were, the location of the east, the nature of the star they followed, and the date (and time!) when they arrived in Bethlehem. In addition, this information enabled me to determine the date when Jesus was born. In the process it became evident that these stories were in fact real events. What would you like to see in a book on HOW to write?


Background info:
I ended up, for a while, being a professional writer for a company. Often I had to write for my job. And as a hobby I was paid and published in over a dozen national publications from Writers' Digest to the Washington Post.

I learned a lot about grammar, and a lot about useless literature, in High School. But nothing about HOW to write.

Same thing in college: They made us write and pointed out our errors but never told us HOW to write. I did learn that the Socratic method of trial and error sucks and is not efficient.

Thanks to Writers' Digest magazine that I read every summer during college and helped me sell a number of short pieces during the time that I was not employed. That publication certainly gave me a good grounding in the business aspects of writing.

I tried to write the great American Novel one summer and totally failed because I tried to pantsit.

Some years after graduation I was forced to write for my job or else lose it.
So I had to discover HOW to write. For me the cornerstone and the capstone are planning. Of course there are other things but learning how to plan effectively was key.


Current status:
I am considering writing a book with my process that would focus on the HOW to write aspect of writing, while touching on all the other things that I learned the hard way from experience.


Anyway, the question I pose to the discussion group is WHAT would you like to know about writing, and in particular HOW to write, that I should consider including in my book should I survive long enough to get it finished.

What problems did you have? What questions would you like to have answered?

Have you been published? What would you like to have known before you started out?


The goal is to have a resource that is like a large Cliff's Notes but not overwhelming as a large textbook.

My first book was successful. I call it successful, particularly because at age 45 never planned to write a book. It was published by an imprint owned by the Greenwood Publishing group. 13,000 copies were printed, but it did not go to paperback. I think the success was tied to the fact that the big four professional reviewers, Kirkus etc., provided very positive reviews. -- Although I have written two new books, my first question relates to my first book. I can tell from the Amazon page that about 40 or so purchases are made on Amazon per year - 19 yrs. out from publication (Amazon sells copies for $39, which depresses the sales volume). The supply of hardback copies, including used copies is becoming very thin. Years ago I bought the paperback rights for $500. I am thinking about paying a vanity press to help package a paperback release. What else should I be thinking? ---

I started writing because my family and I were violated by the community of Jeffersonian historians. I offered a DNA sample for testing in 1997. Promises were made to me in response to my skepticism and probing questions. All those promises were broken. The process was hijacked. Not the testing, but the process of reporting the results. The public release of the results was a combination of 'wag the dog,' hit and run, and a massive, multi-faceted, perfectly executed media dump, which was all a surprise to the organizer of the testing. He was violated as well and overwhelmed.

That said, the second book is not about Hemings/Jefferson. It recovers significant slices of black American history. My father's ancestors left Monticello going to western VA, then OH, then Pittsburgh (1831). My great great grandfather's children married into families of 'colored Americans' that had been free in Pennsylvania for generations. So, some of my ancestors were zealous black abolitionists. One was a very prominent black abolitionist. The second book is about ancestry, black American self-identity, and overlooked American history. It is a contexture.

Should I continue to refine my book proposal and anticipate the approval of a publisher? Should I self-publish? I can invest some money into the project. What works in terms of paid services - paid reviews, Goodreads giveaways, other??

My surname family joined the African Methodist Episcopal church (A.M.E.) in 1821. The A.M.E. founder was a very successful abolitionist and the denomination was very closely tied to the abolition of slavery. My second book acclaims the founder. The A.M. E. is now a huge denomination, which has effectively no knowledge of its early social justice history. Every A.M.E. minister should have a copy of my second book. How do I develop a marketing strategy targeting the church? There are thousands of A.M.E. churches. Do I call every minister or is there a template for a mechanism which would be able to envelope a marketing thrust efficiently?

It's based on my experience but also on the experience of people around me. I wrote it after overcoming depression. Hi, everyone.

My name is Eloy Colombo, and I’m here to share with you a work I have done with all caress about the Abrahamic religions, that is, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. It was the search of my life.

I think that, like me, many of you always feel and thought that something is wrong in our culture; when we read with an open mind the bible’s texts, soaked in human blood, full of hatred but at the same telling about love it’s hard not to think that there are many things wrong there.

So, after decades studying many subjects, from history, economics, philosophy, theology, and ancient culture, specifically the Egyptian (yes, all the ways lead us there), I dared to challenge the Abrahamic religions.

I maintain, discuss, and answer many things like these:
- Christianity was responsible for destroying Roman and ancient Egyptian civilizations. It was not only the destruction of the Roman Empire, as many scholars think, only a religion like an Abrahamic one could have made such a thing as to vanish a civilization.
- In theology, it’s interesting to know how weak the Abrahamic theology is; there is almost no theology in Abrahamic religions! They not even can ask one of the most important theological questions, “who are the apparitions who have shown themselves to the so-called prophets?”
- Who would say that the mothers of modern atheism were the Abrahamic religions!
- And likewise, materialistic theories are their daughters too.
- If it is not enough, why not analyze the Abrahamic texts and their sources? I found it undeniable that they came from ancient Egyptian literature. The Old Testament from fictitious, fancy, and folk Egyptian literature and the New Testament clearly got sourced in some sacred Egyptian texts. Thus, are we facing the biggest fraud in human history?
- And I finished all of this discussion in a well-done conclusion that is there waiting for your reading.
