Jason Rice (goodreadscomjasonpaulrice) | 1 comments Hello everyone,
My name is Jason Paul Rice and I am the author of the Pearl of Wisdom Saga, Book One:Two Heads, Two Spikes. I really got into fantasy when we read the Hobbit in third grade. I am also very interested in history, which was my major, so I converged these ideas in a book about a made-up world that seemed like historical fiction crossed with fantasy.
Two Heads, Two Spikes is my first published book and right now I am working on Fractured Families, Volume 2 of the Pearl of Wisdom Saga. I also run giveaways on my own site and here for copies of my books and other slightly better known authors. Right now it features Robin Hobb if you would like to check it out. http://twoheadstwospikes.wix.com/jaso...
I will leave a description for my book below and if if sounds like something you might like I will give a free ecopy of the book to anyone that wants it. I have mobi, epub and pdf, I am pretty sure. The cover is on my main page. There is no pressure to review it either. If you get to it fine, but I realize stuff happens in life. There are adult themes of murder and sex and while there isn't a lot, if this turns you off you may want to avoid. Email me at twoheadstwospikes@gmail.com for a copy. If you made it this far thank you very much. J.P.R

Treachery and deceit run rampant in the Kingdom of Donegal. A high stakes game of life and death erupts in a land of murder and manipulation. A single event sets off a series of consequences to be faced around the world. Some seek a throne, but most hunt the elusive Pearl of Wisdom for its magical powers and ability to summon dragons. The story is told by multiple points of view that sweep you around a realm and beyond. The King’s son, a Queen, a Princess, members of rival families, several knights and a rogue warrior tell the tales of a lost kingdom, omitted from history. Good versus evil can look transparent or blurred as motivations of revenge and soul-inspired redemption entangle in a forgotten world of deception and drama.

Janalyn Voigt (janalynvoigt) | 3 comments Thanks for the opportunity to connect with readers through this thread.

I write medieval epic fantasy novels for adult and young adult readers and am published by Harbourlight, an imprint of Pelican Book Group. My novels are allegorical fantasies but rooted in the history of 13th-Century Europe. Castles, which I call 'holds,' figure in the stories, as does honor and integrity.

The series title of my debut fantasy series is Tales of Faeraven . DawnSinger and Wayfarer are the first two installments, and I'm currently finishing Sojourner, book three. I originally thought there would be only three books, but the story keeps growing.

If you should read my novels, I would dearly love reviews at Amazon and Goodreads, as this helps them gain exposure. I offer book extras at my Fantasy Worlds site, which you can access by clicking on its door at the website under my name, Janalyn Voigt . My books are available through online retailers and in the bookstore. The storylines are as follows:

DawnSinger : A wayward young princess and the guardian sworn to protect her fly on winged horses to the high hold of Faeraven, where all is not as it seems. Visions warn her of danger, and a dark soul touches her in the night. In a desperate journey fraught with peril and the unknown, they each come to the end of their strength. Will they learn in time that sometimes victory comes only through surrender?

Wayfarer : An untried youth ascends to the high throne of Faeraven and attempts to unite a kingdom divided by his own mistakes. He has only one chance at redemption: he must bend his knee before the one person he banished.

I want one that can show me exactly what fantasy books are all about. If that's your book, great, otherwise, please tell me about one that got you first interested in fantasy. (No sexual fantasies, please.)

E.M. Cooper (emcooper) | 3 comments Hi Debra

The fantasy genre is summarised here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantasy.

You can find Goodreads recommendations here:
https://www.goodreads.com/genres/fantasy

I remember first getting hooked on the genre as a child when I read Enid Blyton's 'Secret Seven' series and the 'Magic Faraway Tree' books.

Ed Ireland (edireland) | 34 comments Of course, read The Hobbit. It was meant as a bedtime story for his children, but in my opinion it started J.R.R. Tolkien as the fantasy writer that all others are measured by in some way. After the Hobbit, move on to the Lord of the Rings trilogy and see how his colorful little world turned much darker and much more grown up.

If you prefer lighter fare, try Brownbird's Luck, by Kriss Erickson. It's in eBook format and only costs 99-cents (to "hook" you on the Land Behind the Veil series?). It's a slow start, but stick with it if you think you'd like young adults and unicorns.

Fantasy comes in several flavors, from sunshine and light down to dark and dangerous. The only common denominator is the presence of "stuff" not in our normal realm, such as magic, monsters, fairies, fantastic creatures, or combinations of these.

Another piece of light but dangerous fare is Hounded by Kevin Hearne. It's become somewhat of a phenomenon and is the lead-in to another series (The Iron Druid).

As Ed posted up above, The Hobbit is a great intro, and really is the book that launched the genre. If you're looking for something more recent, Harry Potter is the series that reestablished Fantasy's dominance in contemporary fiction.

There really are so many different flavors of Fantasy. Rick Riordan puts a mythological spin on Fantasy. Brandon Sanderson creates elaborate worlds and creative systems of magic. Suzanne Collins' Gregor the Overlander focuses on character development while targeting younger audiences.

My advice would be to sample multiple offerings before you give up. You never know what flavor of fantasy you may enjoy.

Here's the full blurb:

What happens when ancient magic meets the internet? One thing is certain, modern life will never be the same again.

A thousand years ago, a young thief, Tung, and a disgraced wizard, Madrick, are thrust together in an executioner’s dungeon. In the darkness, Madrick reveals an incredible secret about a legendary spell. The great spell helps them escape their prison cell... and eventually their century.

Winter's Obsession, my first YA low fantasy novel, is up for grabs free on amazon today along tomorrow Sunday the 22nd.

-----

In the forties, they found a dead man on a beach but never could tell what had killed him. With the labels of his clothes removed and no papers nor any other clues to help identify him or his nationality, they assumed he was a spy. While sixty years later investigators are still baffled by the case, incapable to uncover who he was and where he came from, an ordinary boy may be just about to find out.

Fifteen-year-old Thom November has his tired eyes set on a plane about to take off, longing to hop aboard and find out why his family is such a shattered mess but afraid if he does he might lose the little of it he has left. Ending another long night shift at the airport cafe, nothing it seems will break him free of the ambivalent feelings, until a traveler like no other shows up. A strange accent, clothes from another era and the MO of a spy of the cold war, the instant Thom bumps into him, the wheel starts turning.

Dragged to a ruthless world tightly interwove with ours, Thom will find himself in the middle of an ongoing war among five powerful wizards, the Millenniums, and become the catalyst of a turmoil some people strove to prevent for a hundred years.

-----

I would really love to have some feedback on it (any kind!) :)

Happy reading to you all and thank you!

Colleen Fleshman | 8 comments Hi S.D.,

I just downloaded your book :) Since you requested feedback, I thought I'd offer some on your description. The story sounds intriguing, but I got tripped up on a few things in your description. In the first paragraph, you say that "they" found a dead man. If you deliberately aren't telling us who found the man, great! If not, though, it leaves me wondering who "they" is. I'd recommend stating that the police or a jogger or someone found the man.

Secondly, the correct preposition for incapable is of, not to. Grammar mistakes can be a big turn-off for readers. Easy to do, but that's why it's nice to have a second set of eyes on your description :) In the second paragraph, the first sentence runs on a bit and I got lost reading it. I'd recommend breaking it into two sentences. Finally, the first sentence in the last paragraph should read "Dragged to a ruthless world tightly interwoven," not interwove.

I hope this helps! The cover and description are a reader's first impression of your book, so the more feedback you can get on them, the better.

K.S. | 3 comments I have recently released my debut novel, the first book of an epic fantasy series.

Jaeth's Eye by K.S. Villoso Jaeth's Eye

You can see the blurb from the link. This is a series to follow if you like a lot of heart in your fantasy. It is honest; sometimes too honest. On its surface, all the elements of the typical epic fantasy genre is in there: sorcery, battles, political intrigue, a villain (or two), but I also delve a little deeper than that. Characters grow, motivations change, and more than a few shades of grey emerge. Sometimes I don't even know if a character is playing hero or villain. So if this sounds like your cup of tea, you can check out excerpts from Amazon or follow the link through my publisher's website (which also has a number of other goodies in there):

A. (alouiseolson) Hi, I'm A. Louise Olson, author of Comrades We, a young adult fantasy novel.

Comrades We is the story of the adventures of six friends as they grow up together, learn magic, encounter bad stuff, and try to fight their way out of trouble.

This is a fantasy novel. There is magic. There are swords. There are mysterious and cryptic gods. There are some really bad guys and there are good guys who are mostly ordinary and trying to do their best with what they've got. And if needed, there is always tea.

The book is suitable for ages 12 and up, as there is some violence, discussion of sexual assault, and made-up profanity.

Comrades We is available at Amazon Kindle, Google Play, and Smashwords (as well through Smashwords' premium catalog distributors, including iBooks, Barnes and Noble, and Kobo).

Alex Bobl (alex_bobl) | 94 comments Hey all,

Today's the day! Survival Quest, the first book of Vasily Mahanenko's Way of the Shaman, is available for pre-order on Amazon - with a special preorder discount! Grab your copy for peanuts here:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VQRW14E

Survival Quest is a new bestselling addition to the genre of virtual-reality based books, such as the Legendary Moonlight Sculptor, Ready Player One, Play to Live, Ark or Player. The books are widely popular all over the world but Russia has become the first country where the genre was officially recognized. Since then, Russian authors such as D. Rus (Play to Live), V. Mahanenko (The Way of Shaman) or Andrei Livadny (Phantom Server) have sold tens of thousands of copies of their bestselling novels set in the virtual worlds of online multiplayer games. Now their English translations gradually become available on Amazon.

Barliona. A virtual world jam-packed with monsters, battles - and predictably, players. Millions of them come to Barliona, looking forward to the things they can't get in real life: elves and magic, dragons and princesses, and unforgettable combat. The game has become so popular that players now choose to spend months online without returning home. In Barliona, anything goes: you can assault fellow players, level up, become a mythical hero, a wizard or a legendary thief. The only rule that attempted to regulate the game demanded that no player was allowed to feel actual pain.

But there's an exception to every rule. For a certain bunch of players, Barliona has become their personal hell. They are criminals sent to Barliona to serve their time. They aren't in it for the dragons' gold or the abundant loot. All they want is to survive the virtual inferno. They face the ultimate survival quest.

Today and every day until the release date of April 20 2015, you can pre-order Survival Quest for only $0.99. Once the novel is released, the price will revert to normal.

Enjoy!
