B.B. Vayk (authorbbvayk) | 18 comments Hi everyone,

my name is B.B.Vayk, I am the author of Reign of the black flame - Book I: The Waterglobe that is the first book of a YA fantasy series.

If you could be interested in a fantasy world inspired by European folklore and by the unique personification of the mighty Forces of Nature, I think you will like my novel... I hope so...:)

In an age when the mighty Forces of Nature rule, the eternal battle between Fire and Water flares into war. One human is chosen to regain the ancient equilibrium at any cost, but a dangerous love threatens to sabotage his mission.
The evil Fire, fueled by ancient jealousies and a lust for power, commits the ultimate treachery - the theft of the Waterglobe. Equilibrium between the Forces is lost, leaving a drought-plagued world that only one brave human can restore. Robert Ground, longing for adventure, lives in a peaceful, sleepy little village. One day, Fire appears, laying to waste everything Robert has ever known. Determined to find out why he has become a target of the Prime Evil, Robert begins a journey to uncover his family’s secrets, and soon discovers a link between his past and the elemental battle waging around him. Robert is joined by the lovely, secretive Marian as they forge an unlikely partnership. Unknown to Robert, Marian is a fireling, and Fire’s cruelest, most loyal apprentice. As Marian pursues her own dark mission, two others join the travelers: Gider, the vicious, coarse, fermad, and Shine, the brave and noble rainsteed.
Reaching the Cloud Realm, Robert is tasked with an impossible mission, one that will test him beyond the limits of his endurance. The four adventurers navigate the perilous realms of the Forces, gathering powerful weapons for the final battle with Fire. Each is forever altered, as they must choose between self-sacrifice and treachery. Ultimately, Robert faces Fire and finally learns why he is destined to fight the ultimate evil...

Tim Stead (timstead) | 1 comments Goodreads Authors/Readers post

Hi,
I'm Tim Stead, I've self published three books so far, all of them on both Amazon and Smashwords (Barnes & Noble etc.)

The books are epic fantasy. So far they have been well received - check out the reviews here and on
Amazon. Only one of these comments is from a friend...

The Sparrow and the Wolf comprises:

The Seventh Friend
The Bloodstained God
The Pity Stone

The Seventh Friend is now permanently free on Smashwords

Like all independent authors I'm finding it difficult to gain traction, so if you DO happen to download the free book, and you DO happen to like it, then a rating would be greatly appreciated, a review adored, and an email welcomed. Anyone who wants to discuss the book can email me and I'm happy to review the occasional book, but prefer epic fantasy written for adults - think George Martin, Robin Hobb, Pat Rothfuss.

I have another three books complete and very soon a fourth, but they still await revision, covers etc.

The Seventh Friend

Hero. Monster. Saviour. Butcher. Madman. Recluse. Wolf Narak, the deadly and charismatic god of wolves, has earned all the names men give him, and since the climactic and bloody final battle of the Great War he has shunned the company of mortal men and withdrawn to his forest home. There he is troubled by dreams of blood and fire, tormented by memories of his own deeds.

But fate has not quite finished with the victor of Afael.

He receives an impossible message, and as he follows the trail a suspicion grows to a certainty within him. War is coming again, and Narak must leave his beloved wolves and once more take up his twin blades. Once again he must become the general of the six kingdoms, the terror of his enemies, a hero, a butcher, the bloodstained god.

R.C. Tucker | 5 comments Hello everyone. My name is Ricardo Tucker and I just recently published my first book on Amazon: Story Untold: A New World

This is the first book in a planned trilogy and I'm very proud of myself for finally accomplishing something I never thought I'd be able to do. I can't say much about the book out of fear of spoiling it, but here's a breif description that I think sets the tone rather well:

Three cities. Two Merchants. One Steward. A life of relative peace and safety. This is the world Talios was born into, and all he has ever known. But a small, worn journal, gifted to him by a close friend of the family, has led to him questioning his reality. Curious to learn the truth, he embarks on a journey that will take him far away from his home, and all he has ever known, to discover a history and a world long since forgotten.

The book is currently available in e-book format only and is 2.99. The first four chapters are available for preview.

I don't think I've ever been so neverous about anything in my entire life! Having put so much into this book and then laying it out there for the public, hoping they'll enjoy reading it as much as I did creating it.

Thanks for giving it a look.

Avery Teoda (averyteoda) | 4 comments Hi all, I'm Avery. I write speculative fiction, though maybe a little atypical (as the blurb below demonstrates). I'm editing my second book right now, which is a sequel to my first one, The Wicked Instead.

Here's the blurb for The Wicked Instead:

Cary and Lindsay Delaney have always known they were special. Warriors for God, their father said, meant to bring about the Rapture, and every moment in their family’s isolated Ozarks compound was spent preparing for that day. Cary’s paraplegic injury put an end to that dream, however, and the brothers, now estranged from the father who once exalted them, find a different kind of magic in the streets of Springfield, Missouri.

Dubiously blessed with the title prince and heirs to powerful táltos magic, the brothers find themselves embroiled in a struggle for the health of the World Tree, the structure that supports not only their world, but every world. The Tree is rotting, and it’s only a matter of time before the corruption reaches its heart. Can Cary and Lindsay make their own way and heal the Tree, despite those who would use them for their often shadowy ends?

A coming of age urban fantasy with a twist, The Wicked Instead combines the voice of a redneck haint tale with an unerring modern sensibility and sensitivity. As much about struggling to survive and the bonds forged between unlikely friends as it is about fantasy, The Wicked Instead will change the way you think about the genre.
-----------
I'm hoping the sequel will be published early next year. We'll see how the editing process goes. :)

Mara Fields (mfwriter) | 1 comments Greetings all. My name is Mara Fields, and I am an author of fantasy for both adults and YA. I've loved fantasy all my life, beginning even before I knew my letters, when my mother read the Moomintroll books allowed to my brother and me. As I got older, I would sneak in at recess to read Stephen R. Donaldson's books in the library. Recently I've fallen totally in love with Patricia McKillip's amazing prose, and Ursla Le Guin's YA literature.

My books focus on character growth and development and I work really hard on my craft (I was an English Lit major, and make a living with my professional-technical writing as well). I hope to touch very human emotions and experiences, in a world that is outside our own. Matchmaker of Magics

Raven Oak (raven_oak) | 7 comments Greetings folks!

My debut epic fantasy, Amaskan's Blood will be out in January. Folks can pre-order it now, or enter to win it via the Goodreads Giveaway.

Here's a bit of info about Amaskan's Blood:

Her name was Adelei. She was a master in her field, one of the feared Order of Amaska. Those who were a danger to the Little Dozen Kingdoms wound up dead by her hand. The Order sends her deep into the Kingdom of Alexander, away from her home in Sadai, and into the hands of the Order’s enemy.

The job is nothing short of a suicide mission, one serving no king, no god, and certainly not Justice. With no holy order to protect her, she tumbles dagger-first into the Boahim Senate’s political schemes and finds that magic is very much alive and well in the Little Dozen Kingdoms.

While fighting to unravel the betrayal surrounding the royal family of Alexander, she finds her entire past is a lie, right down to those she called family. They say the truth depends on which side of the sword one stands. But they never said what to do when all the swords are pointing at you.

Amidst her enemies, in a land from the darkest reaches of her past, she must decide if she is to be more than another brainwashed puppet. No matter her choice, she must fight to do what is just and right to save the people of the Little Dozen.

You can find out more about it at www.ravenoak.net.

Glad to see so many fantasy authors here! Greetings to you all and happy writing!

Cat Bruno (catbruno) | 1 comments Hello!

My newly released debut novel, The Girl from the North, is out now, and the paperback will be out next month.

The Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PHDRA3K

GoodReads link: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Short synopsis:

When a dark stranger, beautiful and haunting, approaches the flame-haired girl on a solitary stretch of beach, she senses that her life at the Healer’s Academy is about to change. As his hands reach for her forehead, gliding across it with intimacy and purpose, suddenly, she remembers who he is, and who he has been. Yet, still, Bronwen wonders why she was chosen, and fears what the mysterious man's presence in her life will mean. Before he turns to leave, she asks why he has come and why it has been her he sought.

His reply silences her.

“Rexaria,” he whispers, low and gruff, yet louder than the tumbling sea and the screaming gulls flying overhead.

Somehow, Bronwen understands.

Kingmaker.

The first book in the Pathway of the Chosen series, we meet Bronwen, a healer-in-training, who arrived at the Academy as a child with no memory of who she was or where she had come from. Soon, we learn that there is much that she keeps hidden. Her fire-streaked hair marks her as a Northerner, far from her homeland, yet she recalls nothing. Until she is visited by Conri, the High Lord of the Wolf Tribe, who lets her remember. But what will those memories be? Follow Bronwen as she explores what it means to be god-touched.

Also, if anyone would like to exchange read and reviews, I'm available!

Thanks!
Cat Bruno

Now the problem is I want to publish them but I have no idea how the publishing industry works or what are the steps. I've read in the following posts here that some members are already authors and had published their books. Perhaps any of you could offer a guide on how to publish a book? I have already edited my novel after letting a friend of mine read it. Do I go to an editor first or should I let people read my novel first and get their feedback?

Thank you!

Pauline, I've heard authors say that publishing is a long, frustrating, and tedious process. There are waaaay many more failed manuscripts in the trash bins of the big publishers than there are selections on bookstore shelves.

I recently decided to self-publish my first novel, for two reasons. First, it's cheap and easy! CreateSpace got me up on Amazon.com in both paperback and Kindle format at no cost. Second, I don't expect to make writing my career. As a hobby-novelist, self-publishing just made sense. That said, some self-published authors do pretty well earning royalties, but I'm guessing it takes some blood, sweat, and tears to establish yourself that way.

I have written a few details about my self-publishing journey on my weblog. Feel free to ask any questions if you plan on going this route.

Happy writing!
Michael L. Lewis

Clair | 3 comments Good morning everyone. I am releasing my debut novel tomorrow (12/12/14) and thought I would pop in and share the online launch party I am hosting on Facebook for it. The book is called The Soul Conductor and will be out on Kindle. The online party is open to everyone and I'd love to see more of you there - there's even a chance to win a copy of the book!
Here is the blurb for the book to give you an idea of what to expect from Quinn and co:

'The Soul Conductor’

They live among the people. Quiet, even shy, but with the ability to defend themselves with sword and dagger, and much more besides... Their purpose is to guide the souls of the dying away from their physical bodies and on to their final destiny, be that reward or punishment. Led by a powerful Archdeacon, in turn supported by the Keepers and their fearsome Guardians, these beings ensure no soul remains trapped in the realm of the living for eternity.
Quinn is one such being. He is a Soul Conductor. And he's one of the best.
So, what happens when it suddenly goes horribly wrong, leading Quinn into tragedy and changing his life forever?
Facing attempts on his life and being dragged into the insane plans of a malevolent sheriff, Quinn must rely on the loyalty and strength of friends, new and old, if he is to discover what really happened to him and prevent innocent lives from being lost – along with their souls.
A flawed – and reluctant – hero, Quinn wonders if he will get out of it alive...

The online party can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/events/15136...
I look forward to seeing you there - bring cake!
