Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Just a quick note to say ~ Sorry I've dropped the ball a bit over here! NaNoWriMo, (http://www.nanowrimo.org) a complicated family drama & not always feeling too well has had me busy busy busy! I'm catching up and promise to be around more as of this week.

I've gotten some reading done recently which is good but I feel like I'm faltering with my writing. (My NaNo'ing doesn't count - I'm writing completely blind for that now). But I have a feeling this is either a normal dry spell or as a result of our family stress. (Or I'm losing more of what's left of my mind again, lol!)

How are y'all doing? I hope things are well for my Gardeners.

Love,
~Jo

Thanksgiving is in 8 days. Eight Days! Where has 2009 gone?!

Cheryl S. | 3501 comments Hope things will settle down for you soon and that you had a good Thanksgiving. Things are good here, getting ready for the holidays and having our first snowstorm of the year tonight. Puts me in the mood to bake and wrap presents. Have done a lot of shopping on line which has simplified matters and saved me a lot of time and aggrevation. I don't like crowds, but love getting stuff in the mail. I've decorated outside and will do the inside stuff this week. I don't put up a tree any more as we don't open gifts here, but I do host a brunch on Christmas morning so like to have the house looking good for the holiday. I too can hardly believe 2009 is almost gone. Soon we'll be dreaming over the gardening catalogs and I'll haul out the graph paper and start plotting the veg garden for next summer.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) No snow here yet, only oddles of more rain. We had a nice quiet Thanksgiving w/us & my Mom. Things have otherwise been in an uproar and now myself, Hubby, Sis.in.law (whols visiting 11/28 thru 12/19) and 1 of the kitties all have sinus infections!!! Sigh. We're all decorated inside & out thankfully so I can try to enjoy the rest of the month. I'm all out of sorts at the moment! lol

I'm not ready for the gardening catalogs to start arriving yet!

Cheryl S. | 3501 comments Wow! I've been a cat owner my entire life and have never had one with a sinus infection. The two I have now spend all their time alternating between being indolent and naughty, in other words, being cats. They're part of the reason I haven't decorated inside the house yet. They were babies at Christmas time last year, but are into everything now, so I'm a little nervous about what they might wreck.

I'm into major quilting mode at the moment working on Christmas gifts. Finished a flannel quilt for my grandaughter today and have Christmas table covers left to finish for my daughters. Thankfully I only work a couple more days before Christmas so should have time to get all projects done. Kind of enjoy the last minute push to finish things I've been working on for awhile.

Hope everyone's sinus issues resolve long before the holiday so you can enjoy the season.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Thanks so much Cheryl! I hope so too! Poor Ceasar, this is a recurrent thing for him and he probably caught the sinus infection from myself or my husband to begin with! (We can even/also give our pets colds and the flu! As per our vet). I had no idea either.

This is my first artificial tree in 15 years (Hubby's idea) & all the kitties want to do when they're not sleeping under it is to chew on the lower branches. They're obsessed with garland as well. Not destructive like when they were young, just can't resist chewing fake pine needles off of anything w/them, lol!

Other than that, they don't bother anything now that they're older. Most they did to the trees growing up was bat ornaments off the lower branches and play floor hockey w/the Nativity set!!! (Little heathens, LOL!)

Hope you're able to have a fairly destruction free season!

Cheryl S. | 3501 comments One of my co-workers was told by their vet that their son and their dog were passing strep infections back and forth so I guess we do have to be aware of pet health.
I just got home from having lunch with a friend and was thrilled to be back in the house. It was -8 here this AM with a wind chill of -17. I am definately not ready for the deep freeze before Christmas. It usually waits until January to hit us with this kind of weather. We did luck out in the snow department and only got about 4". Areas south of here had up to a foot! After such a boring and realatively warm (in the 20s to 40s) November this has been quite the shock.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Wow, our temps aren't that cold, lol! What a difference a day makes! Yesterday was 50 degrees, balmy and humid. Today we're in the 30's w/a wind chill making it feel like the 20's & tonight down to the 0's! No snow though. Sigh.

Cynthia | 99 comments Jo, sorry to hear about your family's shared sinus infections. Those are miserable. (Have you tried using a Neti pot? Using one really helps me a lot with any sort of sinus problem or cold.)

Here is southcentral Kansas, we missed the snow completely, but were down to 8-12 at night, with a high of 16 during the day. Add wind to the mix, and it got pretty miserable. Thankfully the wind has died down and the sun is out!

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) My Neto pot is a daily ritual for me but eventually I pick up something anyhoo, especially with 2 other adults in the house having sinus infections too!

There's hope for snow this Sat into Sunday & we've finally got the temps for it!

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) So glad to hear from you Kelly Jo! And glad puppy's alright. (Would have scared me to death too!) So cute with her first snow, any photo's?

How did NaNo go?

message 11: by Cheryl S. (new)

Cheryl S. | 3501 comments Hey guys--low tech grandma here--what is NaNo?

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) It's National Novel Writing Month, NaNoWriMo (http://www.nanowrimo.org) - you write 50,000 words (the loose technical definition of a novel by word count) from 11/1 - 11/30.

Cheryl S. | 3501 comments I haven't done any writing for over 20 years, but as I am thinking of retiring in the spring the time may be approaching when I will be able to concentrate enough to tackle something like this. I will check it out. Thanks for the info.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) You're welcome Cheryl! Congrats on retirement and best of luck w/writing if your pursue it!

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) That's still quite an accomplishment Kelly Jo and I hope you're proud of yourself! Kudo's! It's always good to take a step back and work on something else for a while. I'm doing the same as well.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) We're in for a MAJOR Snow Storm to start later tonight or tomorrow morning!

message 17: by Cheryl S. (new)

Cheryl S. | 3501 comments Kelly Jo--my mind boggles at writing that much in a month. I am impressed. Jo--I heard on the news this AM about the storm coming your way. Wow--it sounds serious. Take care!

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Thanks Cheryl! We're prepared & hunkered down. It finally started snowing here within this last hour. We're in the 12"-18"-20" band so we'll see what happens!

message 19: by Erika (new)

Erika good luck Jo - and ENJOY!!!

message 20: by Cheryl S. (new)

Cheryl S. | 3501 comments We're starting to hear rumblings about a possible storm here on Christmas Eve, although I don't think it's supposed to be anything like what you're experiencing. The reports I've seen on TV look impressive.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Final total by 7am Sunday was 21"! I've definitely been enjoying it Erika! lol

Cheryl, we may get an "ice event" for Christmas Day into Saturday but I'm hoping not!

message 22: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia | 99 comments 21"!!! Wow!!!

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Haven't seen this much in over a decade but in '96 we got 3 feet so this wasn't so bad in comparrison (here @ least).

message 24: by Cheryl S. (new)

Cheryl S. | 3501 comments 21 inches is very impressive. I hope we hang in about the 6" area, but we'll see. I just hope it's snow and not freezing rain or sleet. Unfortunately at latest report we are right in the bullseye of the storm.
I've been getting a chuckle out of my crab apple tree in the front yard. We have about 6" of snow on the ground right now from a storm last week. My tree still has lots of apples on it and the area around it is totally trampled from squirrel and bunny tracks. Evidentally they have been having an early Christmas feast.
