problem with updating the birth date

Hi! I am trying to update author profile for Arend Heiting. For some reason, I cannot set the correct date of his birth - 9 May 1898. Can you help me to change it?

Right now, you can't. And it says so on each "edit author's profile" page (but it's hard to see the small gray print):

date of birth (currently dates before 1900 don't save - we're working on it)
