Aleksander from what I can tell isn't actually a real person...
Franz Ferdinand's actual children were:
* Princess Sophie von Hohenberg (1901-1990), married Count Friedrich von Nostitz-Rieneck (1891-1973)
* Maximilian, Duke of Hohenberg (1902-1962), married Countess Elisabeth von Waldburg zu Wolfegg und Waldsee (1904-1993)
* Prince Ernst von Hohenberg (1904-1954), married Marie-Therese Wood (1910-1985)
Because no actual royalty are involved it doesn't fit.

For the Renaissance Harlem Challenge, I chose to read Glyph by Percival Everett. The protagonist in this challenge has to be African American, but I don't know if the protagonist is because he's a four year old kid. Everywhere I've looked no one comments on the race of the child. Is this still acceptable?

Thanks, Cynthia!
Hi Cynthia,I had a question about BJ Rose's task and the challenge rule on book length. I would love to read The Book of Words by Jenny Erpenbeck and I could fit it into this task but it is only 96 pages long. Since the task is asking us to read a certain amount of pages rather than a particular kind of book, would this be allowed? The other book I plan to read for this task is 784 pages long. Looking forward to your input.
Cynthia, for task 15.8 (silver screen), is a TV movie acceptable for this task (or 2 TV movies because of the commercial time)? Or are you looking specifically for a DVD or Theatre movie?
Petra wrote: "Cynthia, for task 15.8 (silver screen), is a TV movie acceptable for this task (or 2 TV movies because of the commercial time)? Or are you looking specifically for a DVD or Theatre movie? "Either is fine

If it is ok with BJ it's fine by me for that task.
Sorry to be asking a question already but I just started Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer - part of the story is narrated by the grandfather who lost the ability to speak. Could I use this novel for 10.2?? Thanks
Joey wrote: "Sorry to be asking a question already but I just started Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer - part of the story is narrated by the grandfather who lost the ability to speak..."Speech is not one of the 5 senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch) so no .
Can I read Look Who it Is! My Story
For the Red white and blue cover - or are you looking for the more traditional blue?
Birish wrote: "How do you tell if an author is a Goodreads author?"Next to the authors name in parentheses it will say Goodreads author. For an example look at The Time Traveler's Wofe by Audrey Niffenegger.

Or if you are looking at your to-read bookshelf, Goodreads Authors have an * after their name.
Cynthia, for 10.4, does it matter when the fall challenge winner read the book?In other words, if PJReads rates a book with five stars tomorrow, anyone can read it for 10.4, right? Or am I confused and it's only for books read BEFORE Dec.1/during the fall challenge?
General Question - What is the official total count for the winter challenge - I have seen people list it as 1100 points, 1075 points, 1050 points. (I came up with 1050, but admit I am not the best counter) Thanks

Hi Cynthia: I don't know if Bonnie is out of town or something, but there are a couple of outstanding questions that have been open on the help thread for her task for a few days now. Any help in getting an answer to them would be appreciated!
My question was: "Hi Bonnie: Could you please clarify what you mean by 'movie'? For this task is a movie something that was released first into movie theaters, or do TV movies count also?"
Thanks!
Cynthia - for the big books qualifier, does one book have to be 500, one 750 and one 1000? Probably half of teh books I have on my list are more than 500 pages. Would I only get one point for those? And would need a 750 or 1000 page book for the other points?
Or if i read 2 750 pagers, i would get 2 points, one for the 500 and one for the 750?
Sorry - just a little confused on what counts for that.
For 5.4. A WINNING DECADE, does the Aga Khan Award for fiction count? This is given by the Paris Review for their best short story of the year. Only the book I just finished was 160 pages (not what I would call a short story!): The Final Solution A Story of Detection.

The second version is correct...you can get a max of 3 chances - you earn one chance if you read a book that has 500 or more pages, then if you read another book that had 750+ pages you would get another, and if you read a third book with 1000 or more pages you would earn your 3rd chance. So in other words if the first book you read is 1000 pages you would still only get one chance for that.
Shannon wrote: "For BJRose's task 35.3 would the word "night" in the title be acceptable?"
I think you mean DLM Rose and no only the words listed are acceptable.

You're right Cynthia, sorry! And okay, thanks!
I have a question on task 10.7, this is the task where you read a book related to your favorite tv show. My favorite tv show is Ghost Hunters :). I have a collection of ghost stories. They are separate stories about ghosts. I was wondering in this instance, if I can just read a certain number of stories. I think there are 30 in the book. It's called "Ghosts of Illinois".
Jayme wrote: "I have a question on task 10.7, this is the task where you read a book related to your favorite tv show. My favorite tv show is Ghost Hunters :). I have a collection of ghost stories. They are sepa..."You would need to read the entire book.

If it is ok with BJ it's fine by me for that task.
It's OK with me - it's total pages for this task, not length of each book. Only thing disallowed is rereads.
Ok I have a question and if it is already in here somewhere, please forgive me as I am a newbie. I am trying to find all the 5 star books from the winners of the fall challenge. Not all the winners have a group called "fall challenge" that I can tell. Is there an easy way to access that info that I have not figured out yet? One more: If my favorite Disney movie is 101 Dalmatians, can I read the original book by Dodie Smith for the 5.1 task?
Thanks
Cindie wrote: "Ok I have a question and if it is already in here somewhere, please forgive me as I am a newbie. I am trying to find all the 5 star books from the winners of the fall challenge. Cindie wrote: "Ok I have a question and if it is already in here somewhere, please forgive me as I am a newbie. I am trying to find all the 5 star books from the winners of the fall challenge. Not all the winne..."Kathryn is correct about the first part of your question and yes to the second.
i wasn't sure where to write this but i just wanted to point something out in case anyone didn't know (as i just learned it this past year!) For the Eying the Year of the Tiger task, if you were born in January or February 1-13th your zodiac sign is technically from the previous year. So for example, I was born Jan 19 1985. I always assumed i was an ox, but as it turns out i'm a rat since my birthday falls before the chinese new year. make sense?
Julie wrote: "Would Prince Caspian work for 5.3 the royalty task?"I don't think it would because the Royalty task is suppose to feature a real person... it can be fiction but it has to be based on someone that was real. Again, Cynthia has the final say and I could be wrong...
Alyssa, it depends on the year. Chinese New Year changes dates every year unlike our New Year's Day is always on Jan 1. So to figure out your zodiac, go to wikipedia to see what the dates are for the year of your birth.I happen to have been born the day before Chinese New Year during my birth year.

(I found that when I was trying to do a really old date so I wouldn't have to subtract 12 a million times...)
Julie wrote: "Would Prince Caspian work for 5.3 the royalty task?"Kathryn is correct it has to be a real monarch.

Would this work for task 15.1 - Make Me Laugh? The novel "moves from broad comedy to biting social satire". Thanks.A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, Part 6.

blue and white enough for the flag task?"Yes although I'd prefer if the cover had a bit more red but I'll take it.

Thank you!!! Sorry there isn't more red!
For Task # 25.8A Long Title would subtitles count??This is what I am thinking about reading:Final Analysis The Untold Story of the Susan Polk Murder Case
How do I conplete task 30.1 if I was not in the Fall Reading Challenge? (We are supposed to read a book whose Dewey Decimal number matches the number of pages of one of our favorite books from the Fall Reading Challenge)? Should I just use one of my favorite books I read before the challenge?
