Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments Hmm I read a few more than this in 2008 but had a sad follow-up in 2009. I'm excited to try it again for 2010. =)
Thank you for the invite!

message 4: by Collette (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments Thanks. :) I've never had one before so thought I would try it since I'm doing this challenge. It was pretty easy to set up at the www.tickerfactory.com .

message 5: by Rayni (new)

Rayni | 135 comments I did one, but mine's just plain & simple. I may have to go look closer & perhaps make another one.

message 9: by Collette (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments Hey Daisiemae! It's a tall order but I'm up to the challenge. :) I might be reading a lot of ebooks though as they seem to be shorter that some I read. lol
It's so great to see many familiar faces around here.

Julie | 44 comments I have been on a reading jag - and I can't wait to start 2010. Busy at work & just finished a book I did not like - hoping it didn't bring my reading jag to an end! I have a pile waiting for me:
Michael Connelly Nine Dragons
Sue Grafton - U is for Undertow
James Patterson - I Alex Cross
....etc

message 13: by Collette (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments I know! I'm raring to go too. Sorry you had to force your way through a book. I hate that!
That is why I make me list before hand because it keeps me reading since I'm always looking forward to the next book. :)
I really need to try Sue Grafton. Obviously you like her books, Julie?

I picked "D" one day in a vacation rental & couldn't put it down. I had not gravitated towards the series before that. So I started at "A". I love her main character - they are quick reads. Amusing & usually a good mystery.

Yes - I think they are totally worth reading. Light - good character's. I like Grafton.

message 17: by LynnB (new)

LynnB I'm a Grafton fan too. I've gotten to caring for her characters, and I think that's a big element for writers who are doing series.

message 18: by Collette (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments Dawn wrote:I've gotten to caring for her characters, and I think that's a big element for writers who are doing series.

I totally agree! I love series except I usually must have as many as possible in the series before I even start it. :( That is a very bad habit. lol

message 19: by Jennifer C (new)

Jennifer C Me too Collette. That's why I have a 9 page list so I can keep all the series in order and remember which ones I have and which ones I need.

message 20: by Collette (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments LOL, we probably need "series" therapy or a group devoted to series readers! :)

In that case in sue grafton you would need 21 books-A-U- alot of books

message 25: by Collette (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments Dawn! If you start one I will join! There are so many series though that I'm not sure how one would set it up! lol

Afsana...I see I have a big job ahead of me. I have quite a few of the first ones so maybe I'll let myself get started before I get them all. That is great that there are so many!

message 26: by Dawn (new)

Dawn rizzi (dawnie278) Yes def not a project I can take on at the moment. But maybe one day I'll start it up.

message 28: by Collette (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments Since I sometimes read some hefty books I'm going to keep track of my pages read too. It makes me feel better if I don't happen to make 144 books. :)

message 31: by Collette (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments Dawn!! You will do just fine. That is why I'm doing the page count. I'm not sure I will make the book count but I'll do my best. We are here for each other for support. We are like little reading cheerleaders. :)

you just need a good month to make up for a bad month

message 34: by Blackbook (new)

Blackbook | 26 comments You are so focused and steady with your list. I keep falling off the wagon and reading things that are not on my list for the month. Your page counting idea is great.

message 35: by Blackbook (new)

Blackbook | 26 comments You and Shellie did not help me stay focused by mailing me books. You know I love Samantha Kane and Josh Lanyon. You both love Lola Dances. Both of you have me twirling further and deeper down the dirty book rabbit hole. I am, after all, a person of great intellect and refinement- now brought low by the company I keep.

message 36: by Collette (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments BB,
You could become like me and just be a collector of books. :D Than you can carefully pick and choose what you read without falling off of the wagon. Learn to make your lists and stick with them! Be disciplined! lol

message 37: by Collette (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments Damn! I had to take a detour from my list! I can't read a paperback while working out anymore since the ereader has me totally spoiled. I'm reading a paperback but had to find an ebook that was already on my reader as I didn't have the next ebook on the list on there. :( Oh well. I guess I'll live. lol

Discipline? What Discipline? ;P

message 40: by Collette (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments Yeah, I talk big but we all know I'm the weakest one among us all. LOL! As I sort my books I see that a bit more each day.*sigh* Oh well. There are worse habits. ;)

message 41: by Collette (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments Well at least I'm doing much better in February on number of books then I did in January. I just had to read the ginormous Mists of Avalon.
*rolls eyes*

message 42: by Collette (last edited Mar 05, 2010 05:13AM) (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments Well I'm going to color outside of the lines here and read a series or actually finish a series reading the books back to back. I never do that but I'm really enjoying P.C. Cast's House of Night series so I'm just going to continue with it. The books as as follows:

Marked
Betrayed
Chosen
Untamed
Hunted
Tempted

message 43: by Collette (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments Ok I finished the House of Night series to this point, which becomes the downside of reading a series back to back. I'm all into the series and now I have the painful wait for the next book! lol Oh well. It was nice to remember everything that happened from book to book.

message 44: by Collette (last edited Mar 15, 2010 10:50AM) (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments I decided to go for another series!

Kate Daniels

1) Magic Bites
2) Magic Burns
3) Magic Strikes
4) Magic Mourns

message 45: by Collette (last edited Apr 06, 2010 01:52PM) (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments Continuing on with Kenyon's Dark Hunter series until I catch up.

1) Dark Side of the Moon
2) The Dream-Hunter
3) Devil May Cry
4) Upon the Midnight Clear
5) Dream Chaser
6) Acheron
7) One Silent Night
8) Dream Warrior
9) Bad Moon Rising

message 46: by Collette (last edited May 11, 2010 06:10AM) (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments Now I'm going to work on finishing up Cherry Adair's T-Flac series. I've only been working on it a few years now. lol I did read about the Edge Brothers 8,9, & 10 so I'm skipping those.

6) On Thin Ice
7) Hot Ice
11) White Heat
12) Rescue Me Anthology
13) Night Fall
14) Night Secrets
15) Night Shadow

message 47: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I love adair's books but need to do some catch up with them. maybe I'll start one of them next. I don't know what I'm in the mood for.

message 48: by Collette (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments She is such a fun author in her characters and in real life. I got to meet her a few years ago.
I really enjoyed On Thin Ice since it was about the dog races in Alaska. That always sounded fun but a lot of work to me.
How far in the T-Flac have you gone?

message 49: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I kind of jump around. I have on thin ice I think in hc which I have to read yet. Maybe I could read that one. I haven't read any of the night ones yet. I think I might have bought the first one. I have Rescue me anthology on the bookcase yet to read. I'm not sure if I read Hot ice and white heat yet. Have to check that out. I really haven't read her in awhile and probably alot of the earlier ones I read. Nothing lately. I enjoy romantic suspense more than the other types I guess. Especially ones like the navy seals of Suzanne brockmann. But I'm not the type to read them one after the other because I don't want to get sick of them. And I found I read more romantic suspense last year than other ones so trying to do more of a mix this year. So far it's working out. But this month I'm only up to 6 books I think so have to get some fast ones in. I have fast track by fern michaels going, Knitting by Anne Bartlett, The women by TC Boyle (which I haven't gotten into yet but it's a border's book group read and I was thinking of starting A long tall texan summer by diana palmer but I might put that one back on the shelve and start either a Maddy Hunter (cozy mystery) or if I can locate Adair's on thin ice maybe I'll start that.
If you like the dog races in alaska there is a mystery writer that writes a series of those. I can't think of the author's name at the moment but I'll find look it up for you if you want. I haven't read one of her's in awhile but know I have the next ones around here someplace.

message 50: by Collette (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments lol, I like to jump around a lot too. I never used to read right in a row like this but then I found that I forgot about characters that were tied to other books and that bothered me so I started reading the series in a row just recently. I don't find myself getting bored as long as when I finish a series of a certain type, like romantic suspense, I'll move onto a different genra like romance, paranormal or just drama.
I haven't read any Suzanne Brockman or Diana Palmer yet but have some of both of their books. I find I really like the romantic suspense too. Linda Howard is another of my favorites. Hers are romantic suspense with some fun thrown in too in some of her books.

Oh the mysteries in Alaska sound good. Thanks for finding the author for me. :)

I'm headed on vacation tomorrow so hopefully I'll have some time to get ahead in my 144 reading. I read the Mists of Avalon in January and it really put me behind. lol 800+ pages will do that. : /
