Your team picks a challenge (usually either acting/improv or construction) and you have to come up with whatever it tells you to. Then you go to the regional competition in March, and if you get first in your challenge you move on. At the competition you also have to do an Instant Challenge, which is basically a challenge that you have 2-5 minutes to do.
