Obsessed literally just means 'occupying one's thoughts'. When you're a fan, you think about the object of your fandoming a lot :) Like me, when I first watched The Hobbit. Whether it's re-reading/watching the thing, talking about the characters and the actors and the author, or full out fangirling, it's occupying your thoughts :)

Some people do mean that when they say fangirling . . . That's why I didn't want to be known as a 'fangirl' at first ;) I thought it was all screaming over good-looking actors. But it doesn't have to be that xD
