Who doesn't enjoy having someone compliment you? But I think you are quite thoroughly wrong, I can't recall any instance in which either Kvothe or Rothfuss have been fishing for such compliments, let alone many instances that you imply.
Kvothe does have a huge ego, I don't think he needs it stroked though, his head is too far up his ass for that

I hope he doesn't do what JK Rowling is doing, with all the unnecessary facts she is adding to the story. It reduces its value.
