I normally take a break.. or read a book in the genre I am writing in!! I also find talking with my friends about my book really gets me hyped up!

Oh no! Have you tried listening to some songs that kind of fit your story? Last time I was stuck in my book I stuck in the earbuds, turned up a movie soundtrack th..."

That helps people but doesn't help me.. I believe I am out of writer's block :D YAY! What I hafta do sometimes is think all I want to happen in that chapter. And decide which idea is better :)

I've noticed that doing something brainless, like walking, or washing dishes, or taking a shower (or trying to sleep, haha) helps me think of ideas. Of course, I always think of them when it's inconvenient to write them down!

Anna I sometimes go back and read over or edit what I already wrote. That helps me sometimes.
Or reading the genre that I am writing helps.

EXACTLY!! Or out in the miidle of the woods with absolutely nothing to write on!
I did write in the snow one time...

Anna Or when you're trying to sleep! Ahhhh! I hate that!
Or when the woes of algebra or chemistry are upon you, that's when you come up with your best ideas!!

Devin Vanderpool (devander25) I get pensive at bedtime, so I have a journal there for my thoughts. I usually have to mull over what I want to write about for at least a night before I begin writing to combat writer's block. Notepad on my phone has saved me some great ideas many times, but I hate when I lose ideas when I stub my toe or something. Prose will pop into my head and I will wonder at its beauty.....and then the world interrupts.

Anna Yes. Now I keep a journal by my bed just in case...

I always came up with all these ideas so I kept a journal by my bed! After putting the journal there I haven't come up with any new ideas! Grr...

A journal by the bed is a good idea. Notes on phones or anything else is always good as well. Ideas vanish too quickly... as Devin put it, "The world interrupts." That is my biggest issue, interruptions.

I have been dealing with a bit of writers block in a way.... It is not that I don't know what to write it is more that when I write it I am never satisfied with it.

On top of that when I get done with a full day of work and 3 or 4 hours of driving to and from work and the worksite etc... in my job... I really don't feel like sitting down and writing much when I get home... and there are always other things waiting that need to be done also.

*sighs*

Ah well... any ideas anyone?

message 13: by Anna (new)

Anna What I do now is type out what I have already written onto Microsoft Word. That usually helps me. But, thankfully, I don't really get writer's block that often! :D

I don't think I've ever actually gotten writer's block, I just don't have time to write...

For me, if I get Writersblock, I go on YouTube and listen some entertainments. (IE: Nancy Drew SUSPENSE Soundtracks, Music, and Watch funny moments clips.)

J.C. (jctha) | 40 comments Thanks for the tips everyone! Personally, once I get started writing, I never have any problems with writers' block but the hard part is getting started and finding a plot that works...I'm working on ideas for a new book but having trouble...

In response to an earlier comment, listening to music definitely helps for me! In fact I usually listen to music while I'm writing, too.

Soundtracks (especially LotR!!!) are great for writing music! So inspiring!
