Jamie | 12277 comments For "Read a book with soil/earth/ digging equipment/ something buried, or a box or trunk on the cover" can I use The Naturals (The Naturals, #1) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes as a box?

If not, any ideas what I could use this book for? Thanks!

Jade | 345 comments @Kim at DG -Through the Ever Night

it fits into these categories:

-Read a book by an author, or with a character who’s name starts with the letter ‘A’ (for Alan) (ARIA)
Read a book set in another world
- Read a book set in the future, or in the past (after 2041 or before 1989)
- We lost the game! Read a book in which someone goes missing.

it has been shelve once as horror.

message 469: by Rachmi (new)

Rachmi | 4882 comments I know I'm asking the same question for this last two months but since I didn't make to read the book, I thought I'll ask you again because this is a different challenge :D So I started Cupcakes & Kisses (The Magic Cupcake, #1) by Heidi Garrett last December but stop at 20% of the book, I think. And it's still in my currently reading list. Can I use it again for this challenge? I want to read from the start as I completely forget the first 20% I've read.

I don't think this would count for horror. By the looks of it, it's been shelved a couple of times as 'horror/thriller/suspense' which I think is people putting it on that shelf because it's a suspense rather than a horror. According to the publishers it's 'Juvenile Fiction / Social Issues / Dating & Sex' so I don't think we could count it as horror.

For a car on the cover does my copy have to have a car on the cover or just the book in general? I want to read Mr. Mercedes (Bill Hodges Trilogy, #1) by Stephen King and that's my cover but in a different language this is the cover Мистер Мерседес (Bill Hodges Trilogy, #1) by Stephen King

Just use the cover of the alternate edition when you post and that is fine ☺ You can use any of the covers available on goodreads to meet the descriptions ☺

message 486: by Danielle ♥ (new)

Danielle ♥ (readwithmedani) | 2410 comments Sarah, I have a question - do number of pages come into play when you're calculating points? Do they hold a lot of weight in the scoring, or, is it better to read more books versus more pages? I may pick a few shorter books to help my team move through our first round quicker, unless it's worth it! Sounds horrible but I want to help boost our team a bit :)

message 487: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) | 4856 comments It doesn't sound horrible Danielle :)

message 488: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 91107 comments Mod
Yes, pages will come into play, every 200 pages read is equal to 1 point, but whether or not reading more pages will help you will depend on how things have gone by the end - how many books your team has read, as well as how many books the other teams have read.

If one team reads three books which have 150 pages each, that team will earn 5 points, if another team reads 3 books which are 400 pages each, they will earn 9 points. So the second team will have earned more points for the same 3 descriptions than the first team.

However, if by reading shorter books you are able to cross off more descriptions, then you might be able to earn more points that way. If one team reads three books which are 400 pages long and earns 9 points, but another team reads 8 books which are 150 pages long, then they will earn 14 points.

So I guess basically, the pages will come into play if teams have managed to cross off the same number of descriptions.

Does any of that make sense? I feel like I've not explained it very well.

message 489: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) You explain that perfect it makes complete sense to me :-) and it actually is probably the absolute best way to do it all! Now we just all need to figure out what the best way to do it all is ;-) and that is up to all of us as teams :-) if that makes sense ;-)

- Read a book with a house on the cover (or in the title)
-
We lost the game! Read a book in which someone goes missing.
-Read a fantasy story.
The floor is quicker than the sand. Read a book with a beach on the cover, or set at the beach.
-
