@ QNPB - Perry has always struck me as being about average. When he wants to he picks up on things quickly, but he's been spoilt & he's young.

He was until syphilis took a hold of his body. He lived in uncleanliness for a time and died in poverty and obscurity. Ian Kelly's biography is great but warning for the squeamish: syphilis photos and graphic information on the disease.

Beau Brummell: The Ultimate Man of Style goes into too much detail but the book provides a great overview of the time period and the Prince Regent's life as well. It was reviewed in People magazine claiming Beau Brummel was "metrosexual before metrosexual was a word." My sister saw the review and wanted to get it for my dad, who is not a reader. I read it instead and nixed the idea. The book contains the story of poor Caroline who married Prinney sight unseen. She was disgusted by his girth and he by her lack of cleanliness.
Ian Kelly's earlier book Beau Brummell: The Ultimate Dandy was made into a film with Hugh Bonneville as the Prince Regent! I don't think I will be able to think about Lord Grantham in the same away again if I watch that but I've heard it's really good.

It sounds like it. There's a Wiki entry on Fitzclarence family and it lists the descendants of the little Fitzclarences. Poor Mrs. Jordan got the wrong end of that relationship. At least William IV/Duke of Clarence was a loving father.

I know. Men knew how to dress back in the day. Thank you to the Beau for teaching men how to dress properly. I think Beau probably would not like Oscar Wilde and the Aesthetes and some of the modern dandies of the late 20th century but the exhibit was fascinating. I loved the cartoons. I saw see Judith and Perry staring at them in the print shop window with different reactions. Perry would probably interpret them differently than they were intended. He doesn't strike me as being very bright, whereas Judith would get it right away and share a private joke with the Beau.
