Leslie (lesslie) OH, I really want to read Bleak House. I never did because I thought it sounded depressing. Then I saw the movie and Wow! It was really cool and mysterious and just fun. How do you like it?

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) You have to approach Bleak House with an open mind. Dickens gets kind of silly at times, but you need to stick with it. At my first initial reading, I was confused, but someone on one of these threads thought I should reread it, and it is long, but enjoyable. The dvd movie was good, I watched the movie first, then attempted the book. But whatever way you approach it, it is worth it.

Good to know, thanks. By the way, love your little robin avatar. I've had a thing for robins since Secret Garden, all those years ago.

I've been reading Bleak House for months now! I just can't seem to get through it. It is one massive book! I absolutely loved the movie, so this keeps me going.

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) I am in the almost tail end of the book. In the video it didn't give me enough information on the details of the characters. It is a huge slog of reading, but once I finish I will feel that I accomplished one huge reading of Dickens. Also thanks. Leslie in complimenting my robin avatar. Secret Garden was amazing also.

Robin (robin1129) | 306 comments Can anyone tell me if anybody's written a P&P prequel/sideline/continuation starring Georgiana?

I've looked through the listings here (thank you Tanja!), and researched other websites, but somehow Georgiana always seems to be relegated to the secondary characters.

Any help would be much appreciated! :)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) No haven't seen anything.

Kim | 181 comments Mr. Darcy's Little Sister is all about Georgiana and it's really well written. I would definitely check it out

Robin (robin1129) | 306 comments Will do!

message 110: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) I read a continuation I think it was called Darcy's Children.

message 111: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Gulley The Darcy Cousins by Monica Fairview, and a sequel to The Other Mr Darcy, has a lot about Georgiana.

I read that and I liked it! That has to be one of the only ones just about her.

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) Is the author;s last name Ashton?

message 114: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Gentry (authorjennifergentry) | 97 comments "Mr. Darcy's Little Sister" is by C. Allyn Pierson. It's a rewrite of "And This Our Life..." If you've read the latter, you pretty much get the gist of the new rewrite. The only differences are a new plot twist has been added and the book is from Georgiana's perspective as opposed to Elizabeth's. I enjoyed both, but just wanted to give those who have read the first book a heads-up so that they didn't think they were purchasing something "new".

Heidi (heidimarie) | 13 comments I really enjoyed "The Darcy Cousins" that was suggested by Patricia. Monica Fairview is easy to read and the story line is interesting.

message 116: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Gulley Carrie Bedris' book Suspense and Sensibility was rather good.

I just finished Murder at Mansfield Park by Lynn Shepherd. It is a rewrite and a murder mystery with Mary Crawford as the protagonist. It introduces a 'thief taker' which is a very early version of a PI.
Book was good, has interesting questions at the end, not the least of which is if you believe Mary chose the right mate.

message 117: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine (saanichlori) | 48 comments I am reading Carrie Bebris' newest Mr. and Mrs. Darcy sequel The Intrigue at Highbury: Or, Emma's Match where Darcy and Lizzy meet up with Emma and Mr. Knightley and so far I think it's the best of her series to date. Lizzy and Emma are about the same age, and Darcy and Knightley think alike, so they are getting along very well. You might wonder about why the Darcys are traveling unless you have read the previous book The Matters at Mansfield: Or, The Crawford Affair - unfortunately this was not a very good novel. But this one is so much better!

message 118: by Jean (new)

Jean (jeanbr) | 7 comments Robin - message 106 - you might enjoy "Dialogue with Darcy" for a good story about Georgiana.

message 119: by Robin (new)

Robin (robin1129) | 306 comments Thanks Jean!

Need to add to my TBR list :)

message 120: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Gulley I rather agree about The Matters at Mansfield, Lorraine. I have Intrigue on my list to read. I like her books.
Right now I'm reading Jane and the Madness of Lord Byron by Stephanie Barron.
I highly recommend the 3 Mercy's Embrace novels by Laura Hile. It's the story of Elizabeth Elliot, Ann's older sister. They are very good, and quite funny.
