Janet Smith (janegs) I'm Jane (or JaneGS, if you find me elsewhere on the Internet) and my blog is Reading, Writing, Working, Playing, which pretty much means I can blog about whatever strikes my fancy.

I read classics, literary fiction, mysteries, bios, history, and some pop fiction...as soon as I can get Hunger Games from my kids, that's next on my list.

I love to talk about books.

I've written and self-published a set of Austen-inspired short stories called "Intimations of Austen." These stories reflect a lifetime of rereading Austen and thinking about her characters, themes, and world.

Looking forward to meeting new booklovers worldwide!

GREAT QUESTION! So many great James Mason roles- I would have to go with the very first one I ever saw him in- way back in 1978- Mr. Jordan in Heaven can Wait!

Brenda Hoffman (blhoffman) | 1 comments Thanks Rick for the invitation! Hello to all the group members. I am a fairly new author, and have completed two books in my first Mystery series called the Spencer Kane Adventures.

FREE Offer! If you're interested, my first book, Mystery at Shadow Lake, is currently available for FREE in e-book format on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Smashwords.

Since I'm rather new to writing, I'm trying to get a good amount of feedback on my work. I'm sure this will help me improve my skills as I write future books. This looks like a great place to get opinions from avid readers!

I also look forward to reading the works of others, and offering my feedback, as well.

Thank you for accepting me into your group. I hope everyone has a very Happy Easter!

Amber Marie Pettit (sweetestfeline) | 4 comments Hello all! I would warmly like to thank Rick for personally inviting me to this wonderful group. I am an unpublished author working on my first book/series. My main genre is Urban Fantasy/Paranormal romance. The series I am working on at the moment is balanced between Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance. Book one of the "Pieces of Fire" series, "Shredded" is coming along swimmingly. I yet to have a website so I have the chapter preview and my backwards tentative blurb in the comments section (opps)Please take a look and let me know what you all think? http://www.goodreads.com/story/show/2...

I look forward to getting to know you all!

Tim Young (tyoung) Hey Everyone, glad to be part of this group. My name is Tim Young and I am a recently published author. Check out my book 'Heartstone: A Journey out of the midnight of my soul' when you get a minute.

Life can often present us with circumstances we never anticipated. The unfortunate truth is that we all have to navigate these difficult seasons with little understanding, not much experience, and a willingness to learn more about ourselves than we wanted to know.

Life is not a snapshot, so why are you living your life that way? Live courageously from your heart!

I offer you only my story, walk with me...

Uvi Poznansky | 53 comments Thank you Rick for the warm and gracious invitation to join the James Mason Community Book Club. I am thrilled to be here.

I am an artist and writer. My debut novel, Apart From Love, has just been published in several editions: Kindle, iPad, Nook and paperback. The first chapter is called The White Piano. In it, the protagonist comes back to his childhood home in Santa Monica, and to a contentious relationship with his father. Ben finds himself drawn to his father's new wife, Anita. At the same time, he is deeply affected by learning that his mother, a renowned pianist, has been diagnosed with early-onset alzheimer. I am providing some links (please see below) to let you learn more about the story and about my work.

Best Regards,

"What emerges in these characters is a struggle, a desperate, daring struggle to find a path out of conflicts, out of isolation, from guilt to forgiveness."

FACINATING PLOT!!!

message 4924: by Uvi (new)

Uvi Poznansky | 53 comments Here is a teaser: the first page of Apart From Love:

"About a year ago I sifted through the contents of my suitcase, and was just about to discard a letter, which my father had written to me some time ago. Almost by accident my eye caught the line, I have no one to blame for all this but myself, which I had never noticed before, because it was written in an odd way, as if it were a secret code, almost: upside down, in the bottom margin of the page, with barely a space to allow any breathing.
The words left some impression in my memory. I almost wished he were next to me, so I could not only listen to him, but also record his voice saying that.
I imagined him back home, leaning over his desk, scrawling each letter with the finest of his pens with great care, as if focusing through a thick magnifying glass. The writing was truly minute, as if he had hated giving away even the slightest hint to a riddle I should have been able to solve on my own. I detested him for that. And so, thinking him unable to open his heart to me, I could never bring myself to write back. In hindsight, that may have been a mistake.
Even so, I am only too happy to agree with him: the blame for what happened in our family is his. Entirely his. If not for his actions ten years ago, I would never have run away to Firenze, to Rome, to Tel Aviv. And if not for his actions a couple of weeks ago, this frantic call for me to come back and see him would never have been made.
And so I find myself standing here, on the threshold of where I grew up, feeling utterly awkward. I knock, and a stranger opens the door. The first thing that comes to mind: what is she doing here? The second thing: she is young, much too young for him. The third: her hair. Red."

Everett (evpowers) | 3 comments Good morning (it's 10:40 a.m. in California)! I'm an avid reader and an author. I've expanded my reading lately to include new genres as I was "stuck" reading only thrillers and Dean Koontz-type books. I read mostly on my iPad now and mostly books by Indie authors. I try to limit my on-line social activity these days as it tends to suck up too much time, but I'll try to stop by now and then, and hopefully contribute something useful.
