Robert Levoy | 1 comments Greetings everyone.
Being a disabled navy vietnam veteran on a small pension and is bedbound 80 percent of the time, I have difficulty financially to buy books. Several authors have sent me copies of most of their books for me to read on my numerous trips to the VA Hospital. I was curious if you have any spare books that you could send me. An author just donated me a kindle so I am looking for books to put on it. I always love to at least have on signed regular copy if you can spare one.

Thank you very much for your time

Norman E. | 1 comments Hiya Rick,

I saw your kindly invite on a FB site and followed it over here. It looks like you really have the buzz corralled!

I'm Norm. I live in my fictional town of Cowchip Alabama, and I write about it. Believe it or not, it's quite an interesting place. There is always something going on.

Just lately I have penned my latest work, a novel entitled THE RYO LODGE. It's the story of how the RYO Corporation came to tiny Cowchip. I'm sure you know that it is the most powerful crime organization the world has ever known. Well, it all started in little Cowchip in 1969. I'm in the way of knowing that. It's all in the book.

So, I have this brand...the Cowchip brand. There isn't a whole lot of competition, let me tell you. Not too many people know the inner workings of the place like I do, and even if they do, most keep their yaps shut. The RYO Corporation has a way of dealing with snitches, you see.

That's a bit of my story. I hope you're sufficiently baffled so that you'll visit me at my FB digs: https://www.facebook.com/fableshop.net. If you like what you see, then...LIKE the page! Wow!

Thanks again,
Norm
The Man, the Legend, from Cowchip AL

PS... James Mason would have been right at home in a home up on top of Tentuck Ridge above Cowchip in his North By Northwest days.

But can they learn to control it before it falls in the hands of terrorists? It's available on Amazon & I just updated the Kindle Ebook with a "hyperclicky" table of contents. D.E. Johnson (dejohnson) | 2 comments Hello to my fellow readers! I am a historical crime author with four books published by St. Martin's Minotaur Books: The Detroit Electric Scheme, Motor City Shakedown, Detroit Breakdown, and Detroit Shuffle (9/2013).

I love good historicals and crime (go figure, right?) as well as a broad range of other books. These days, most of my "pleasure reading" is criminal history, with a focus on Chicago in the early 1900s. As you can see from my other titles, my attention has been on Detroit until now. It's been a lot of fun to branch out into another corrupt city! (And I thought Detroit was bad. They couldn't hold a candle to the politicians of Chicago.)

It's great to be in the James Mason group. Thanks for the invitation!

Aaron Lazar (aaronpaullazar) | 5 comments Good morning, folks. I'm seeking to add to the list of upcoming reviews for newly released DON'T LET THE WIND CATCH YOU, available to reviewers in Kindle and Nook format at this time. Here's a synopsis - let me know if you're interested in taking a look! Thanks in advance. When young Gus LeGarde befriends a cranky old hermit in the woods who speaks to an Oneida Indian spirit named Penaki, he wonders if the man is nuts. But when Penni rattles tin cups, draws on dusty mirrors, and flips book pages, pestering them to find evidence to avenge her past and free her from earthly bondage, things change.

What Gus doesn’t understand is why his mother hates Tully. His relentless digging reveals a hint of scandal about Tully and Gus’s maternal grandfather, Marlowe Wright. Can his natural compassion help him accept the not-so-normal facts about Tully and Marlowe?

On horseback, Gus and his friends ride through woods overlooking Conesus Lake, following Penni’s trail to an abandoned house reportedly infected with the deadly Genesee Valley Fever from the 1700s. Unafraid, they enter and make an astounding find that could rewrite history.

Can Gus convince his mother to forgive Tully? Will the proof he finds free Penni’s spirit?

Gus summons courage beyond his years in this poignant and powerful telling of the sultry summer of 1965.

***

This book is a mystery suitable for YA and adults alike, it's basically wholesome, with sensitive treatment of subjects taboo in 1965. Set in upstate NY and Cape Cod, here some points:

• Bridges the gap between YA and adult ala Harry Potter
• “Suspenseful, satisfying, well-crafted, mood-capturing, for both adults and children.”
• Will appeal to readers who crave adventure, who love horses, the sea, or the outdoors, and who may be curious/nostalgic about children’s lives in 1965.
• Will appeal to teachers and parents who want to impart anti-bullying, anti-bigotry behavior; including compassion and acceptance in a thoughtful, sensitive manner.
• Will appeal to mystery buffs who loved the award-winning Tremolo: cry of the loon featuring Gus LeGarde in a prequel to the series in 1964.
• Showcases goodness, morality, understanding, acceptance, courage, persistence, and love.
• Readers can forget today’s furious Internet-driven scene and maybe evoke a few of their own comforting childhood memories and adventures

Summer Lovin
The four season of life
As I sit on the back patio watching this summer morning’s sunrise, I can only marvel over the radiant rays breaking through the leaves in the forest setting aglow the warm brown fur of a doe and its two fawns. A hummingbird buzzes by and hovers over a bell shaped blossom sucking out the sweet nectar. A couple of Monarchs and a Swallowtail fluttering around the assortment of flowers stretching their blossoms towards the sun while a Praying Mantis bathes in the dew covered grass. Rogers and Hammerstein’s music comes to my mind. Oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day. Soon, the minutes, filled with the hustle and bustle of the day, flees one by one until the beauty of the sunset will complete the day. Then the days will flee into the seasons and the seasons into the years....

I do love sheep! I was brought up on a sheep property here in Australia and positively dote on the three sheep and two brand new lambs who live down the street from us in our rural town. Love chooks too - we don't have any now since we retired from the farm - our 20 yo cat died in February and we didn't get any dogs after our last two sadly died some years ago. We do, however, have nine pet rats, two of which are geriatrics and presently asleep on the lounge.

David Black | 4 comments Hi everyone,

I thought I'd take a quick break from penning SAS Shadow Squadron #3 - The Devil's Web, have a cup of tea, and write something profound and meaningful to all those of you who aspire to become a self-published writer.

I have used Amazon Kindle(+ KDP Select and CreateSpace) to publish six books so far, and as a result, have learnt a great deal about self-publishing, and building a following from scratch.

Today, the point I would like to make, is that whatever you do, DO NOT run your last proof-read yourself. After suffering a mauling from early reviews concerning the odd typo in finished Kindle and Paperback books, I knew I must do something urgently to put matters right.

Having slaved over a manuscript for months, trust me, word blindness is an issue which every author, no matter how good and accurate, to some degree suffers from during their final edit.

On the glorious day, when I type my last two words - The End - I begin the next phase by running the usual MS WORD typo checker. Then I use three software programs to further check for errors. Incidentally, the first two - PerfectIt and WhiteSmoke do different jobs as they quickly sieve through the usual 85,000 words, but together, they catch about 95% of the few mistakes, there are. I then run the entire manuscript through an audio checker called NaturalReader. It's surprising (remember the word blindness issue) what a difference it makes when a slightly robotic voice reads your story to you. Your own ears will pick up simple errors like - has instead of had. These are easily made mistakes, but believe me; they annoy the hell out of some readers, even if there is only one occurrence in the entire book.

Lastly, when I've exhausted every possible typo trapper program I have, I pass the corrected manuscript to a friend, who reads it, and marks anything I've missed.

Don't rush this proofreading stage; ultimately, it pays dividends to take your time and get things 100% right. Sadly, although you may well have penned something special, the last thing you want, shortly after general release, is a series of one and two-star reviews from ultra picky readers, which ignore the general quality of your story completely, and concentrate on the odd spelling mistake.

Good luck, stay focused, and keep writing!

Cliff Roberts (CliffRoberts) | 4 comments Hello, my name is Cliff Roberts and of course I am an author. I write action/adventure and mystery thrillers mostly. but I have several sci-fi I'm developing and several non-fiction reference and religious books. About the only thing I won't try to write are romances.
I have four novels currently on market though my site for some reason keeps adding books out of print or not mine. someday I'm going to figure that out and fix it.
my four books are: Reprisal! the Eagle Rises, the Cliff Roberts edition, Reprisal! the Gauntlet, Fatal Mistake and Nevwas's Gold. I have received very good reviews, accept for the usual lone person who doesn't the fact it part of series, thinks there needed to be more twists and turns, or took offense to a miss spelled word. Those were mostly against Reprisal! The Eagle Rises which in for a major reedit and should released reedited very soon. I am not a pro at grammar and punctuation, the person redoing it is.my other book have all been professionally edited, so they read terrifically. I'm open to new friends and trading reviews so don't be shy. maybe we can help each other.
