I am not a reader who often enjoys mystery and murder novels, they are just that type of genre that happens to always be a rerun of a previous storyline. Having said that, as I read ‘Running Dead’, I found the story interesting and intriguing, capable of engaging and holding the reader’s attention. Mr. Crothers writes well with confidence and a smooth flow that carries both the story and the characters easily along. His dialogue is engaging and the explanations are unstilted and relatable.

I was lucky enough to receive this book as a First Read and I am very glad I did. The story is very engaging right from the start and I thoroughly enjoyed the journey it took me on. It is quite a fast-paced book and Ross Crothers certainly can't be accused of any 'padding' in his writing. I found Running Dead very difficult to put down, particularly as the various characters and their roles started to come together in the numerous twists and turns of the plot!

My Review: This was a fairly decent detective whodunit. I liked the twist of the Australian Federal Marshall. The blurb was a little more interesting than the book actually. I found the characters a little flat. The villain just did not inspire the fear in me that should have come across. Also for someone so experienced Ash seemed a little clueless. The editing was good and the continuity was right on. This gets a 3 star.

Born in the Hunter region of New South Wales, Australia, to a beef cattle grazing family, Ross Crothers early life might well be described as idyllic. The death of his father when he was only eight abruptly changed that, and a life on the land suddenly became an option no longer. After completing his schooling he went straight back into the rural industry, becoming a livestock auctioneer and agent ...more
