Robin Craig Clark (rudhek) Hi everyone! What an amazing diverse group. It's like a mini universe!

My name is Robin. I can’t lay claim to working with James Mason, but I am an ex-British film editor having worked in the film industry for over ten years, in production and post-production. I am in the process of writing a memoir based on all my amazing experiences. Some of the films I have worked on include: Ron Howard’s Willow, James Cameron’s Aliens, Paul McCartney’s Get Back World Tour, Richard Lester’s The Return of the Musketeers, Fredrick Forsyth Presents (6 TV films) and the famous British TV series, Minder. I am a great lover of black and white films. I emigrated to Australia in 1991 and have been writing ever since.

Peter Prasad (goodreadscompeter_prasad) | 9 comments Greetings all. I'm a San Francisco writer and reader. My favs are Vonnegut, LeCarre, Bernard Cornwell, and almost any historical fiction or biography.

As a writer, I'm a genre bender. I did Campaign ZEN last year to process the angst of the Presidential election. It's a meditation on the ballot box. Hard to read unless you love to do voices.

This year I'm focused on crime thrillers. GOAT-RIPPER due this month. GIRL POSSE due in October. I made weekend cheese for a year to get GOAT-RIPPER correct.

I look forward to pithy, poignant discussion with ya'll.

Merle Temple | 3 comments Hi, It's great to be a part of this author forum. My first novel, A Ghostly Shade of Pale, was launched here in Tupelo on May 23 at the same bookstore where Grisham began. Sales have been good for this novel of the South set in the 1970s, and they are increasing as more marketing channels become availbable. Ghostly has garnered warm reviews from readers, and I am touring the state and signing books in key bookstores. Jim Clemente at Criminal Minds read the manuscript, and gave us a great recommendation that has been very helpful. We are doing interviews all over the country now, and are headed to Hollywood next month for interviews, meet and greets, and some book parties. I look forward to listening and learning here. Michelle Corasanti (michellecohencorasanti) | 6 comments Thank you so much Rick for the invitation. My name is Michelle Cohen Corasanti. I'm the author of the novel The Almond Tree.

The Almond Tree is an epic novel, a drama of the proportions of The Kite Runner, but set in Palestine. A beauty..I predict it will become one of the biggest best sellers of the decade. Huffington Post. Spanish TV and Radio Host Guillermo Fesser http://www.huffingtonpost.es/guillerm... http://thealmondtreebook.com
Against a background torn from the pages of today’s headlines, The Almond Tree, by Michelle Cohen Corasanti recasts the Palestinians in Israel and Gaza, a people frequently in the news, but often misrepresented and more misunderstood. Michelle is a Jewish American who writes in the voice of a Palestinian Muslim male.
The author Les Edgerton wrote:

Ichmad’s story is a big-hearted story of a small Palestinian boy who learns to survive in a brutal environment and doesn’t simply endure, but emerges from the fire with the wisdom gleaned from the example of a father who has taught him that all men have value, even their enemies. A tale of innocence moving through a vicious world, compassion learned against an environment of daily horrors, and wisdom forged through a boy’s journey through a life we would never wish upon our own children.

The book’s universal message of resilience, hope and forgiveness will hit home with anyone who has faced adversity. Cohen Corasanti’s novel brings humanity and clarity to the Arab-Israeli conflict, exploring themes of redemption, family sacrifice and the benefits of education and tolerance. Her personal experience of living in Israel for seven years and her undergraduate degree from the Hebrew University and her MA from Harvard, both in Middle Eastern studies, gave her the perspective, insight and ability to craft this story.

“Let’s make this the next Kite Runner!” Ricciarda Barbieri, editor, Feltrinelli
“It has been a long time since a book struck me so hard. (…) It is an honest novel. There is no death or tragedy in it that leaves you indifferent or that comes across as sensationalist. (…) I felt captured from the first moment by her voice and her style. It is an honest story, exciting, with touching moments… It addresses a subject which is always present. A novel that shows pain, but also hope.”
- Carol París, Foreign Fiction Editor, Ediciones B
“Last night I could hardly sleep. I am excited. From the first 50 pages I knew that I wanted to publish the novel in our Amsterdam imprint. (…) I really loved it, it had me gripped, it made me cry (more than laugh), it made me think and, in a way, it transformed me, which is what I ask most of in a book. Yes, yes, yes, we want to publish it!”
- Izaskun Arretxe, Editor and Director, Ara Llibres
“We have read The Almond Tree, and we simply love it! It’s such a beautiful and strong story – and it made me cry several times. We will do our best to make sure that this beautiful novel gets all the readers it deserves.”
-Inger Marit Hansen, editor, Schibsted Forlag
“THE ALMOND TREE offers that rare combination of emotion and meaningfulness. The very complex situation in Palestine territories and Israel is dealt with in a very clever way that provides both humanizing insight and a perspective not often seen.
THE ALMOND TREE is an accessible commercial novel with a literary appeal. The characters are engaging and believable, and we sympathize deeply with them. The novel's perspective and the fact that the core of the story is a personal journey (against many odds) makes it enormously captivating.
What really got me however –other than the simply gripping storytelling- is that this is a book which will make us think, it offers themes and points of view you want to discuss, and I can see reading groups are just waiting for a book like this. (...) To bring such a complex and sensitive subject down to a pure human story is a great achievement, and - next to the great reading experience this book provides - I also feel it's message of perseverance, unity and humanity is important and should be spread. THE ALMOND TREE is part a sad and poignant story that reflects the inherent absurdity of the situation Ichmad's family is in, and possibly of any family during war times. But more than that, this is a moving story of family love, hope and the power of dreams.” Sander Knol, publisher, Xander Uitgevers

Selma Dabbagh, The Electronic Intifada Selma Dabbagh is a British-Palestinian writer. Her debut novel is Out of It.
The Almond Tree has all the makings of a bestseller or a Hollywood film. It is a rags-to-riches (in this case tent-dweller to international award-winner) tale with love, suffering, death and justice thrown into the mix.
Professor Bina Biswas

Michelle Cohen Corasanti’s “The Almond Tree” is a book that reads like a treatise on love and peace, a book that almost equals Hugo’s ‘Les Miserables’ and can be called also an upshot of Tolstoy’s ‘War and Peace. It ‘shines light’.

Rebecca's Reads Book Reviewer Charline Ratcliff
Having just finished reading “The Almond Tree” by new author Michelle Cohen Corasanti, I can honestly state that it is, without a doubt, one of the most riveting books I have read during the past several months.

eBook Review: The Almond Tree by Michelle Cohen Corasanti
By Mercy Pilkington
Verdict: 5 Stars
It has been a very long time since a book pulled me in as far as The Almond Tree (Garnet Publishing) did, and an even longer time since a book has made me cry.
"The Almond Tree" is a strong addition to coming of age fiction collections, highly recommended. The MidwestBook Review. It's on their online January review magazine "MBR" 2013 issue.

https://bookdiva.wordpress.com/2013/0...
The Almond Tree will stay with me for a long time…the story is so compelling and left me with so much to ponder regarding the human condition and regarding loss (in all of its forms) and regarding dignity and redemption.
Michelle Cohen Corasanti is masterful with her word-images. I highly recommend The Almond Tree to everyone.

Charles Ray’s Ramblings Blog
This is an amazing first novel; finely crafted, and full of meaning. It’s easy to casually dismiss it. Some would doubt that a Jewish writer could possibly enter into the mind of a Palestinian and make the reader see the fear, hate, love, despair, and hope that shapes his mind. But, Corasanti does just that. More importantly, she has capably described both sides in this long-standing conflict from a human perspective, a perspective that is all too often missing from other accounts of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
I strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to have a better understanding of the human face of war.

Incredible. Hands down, it's the best book I've read in years. I will never look at war the same again. This book should be awarded, and internationally printed in every country! The Almond Tree, unlike "typical" war books, focuses on a deep emotional response. From the first chapter, my heart stopped. Honestly, it gripped me personally. I felt as though, I've actually stepped into all the characters shoes.

May 19, 2013 Jane Emily rated it 5 of 5 stars

You’ll want to read this over and over, from cover to cover – without ever stopping. By far the best book I’ve read in 2013. It is definitely a book that has been added to my all-time favourites

Paddy O'callaghan rated it 5 of 5 stars
There is no doubt in my mind that Corasanti is one of today's greatest novelists, and most important socio-political commentators. What she's done with The Almond Tree is highlighted the cause of one of the world's most unjustifiably maligned, and oppressed people. She's also produced a beautiful multifaceted story which is in equal parts utterly riveting, shocking, and addcitive. If you liked Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner, you'll love this.

Thanks for the invite Rick.

My penname is Airam which is just Maria backwards.

I've been asked what my novels are about and what genres I cover. Here it goes. They are all about love, drama, romance, and I cover varying genres.

They all contain humour, emotions and are written in first person. I never POV change as that annoys the hell out of me. Most are RRated except for Mae Day and Love is in the Heir. They are all up in draft form to read for free on Wattpad.

Kismet series is a modern day romance. The Pirate Series is a historical piece. Mae Day is a Fantasy. Love is in the Heir is a modern fairytale. Muse is Sci-fi/Action. Wow is action/romance. Lordosis is Paranormal/shifter/werewolf. Marriage Made in Heaven is Angels/Demons etc.

I have more that I haven't put out there yet and I'm working on some sequels.

John Rachel (johndrachel) | 44 comments I left America in 2006 and after traveling through 21 countries, now I find myself settled in Japan. I live in a traditional rural village, my house is surrounded by rice and bean fields, and the loudest sound I hear is the ringing of the temple bells three times a day at a local Buddhist shrine. Since I grew up in Detroit, I really miss the sound of squealing tires and gun shots. To make up for this cultural deficiency I write social-political satire. My most recent book is "Blinders Keepers", a quirky and frivolous work at best. As one overwrought reviewer put it, "It doesn't just take on sacred cows. It stuffs them head first in a meat grinder."

Patricia (goodreadscomptroyerauthor) | 4 comments So very, very nice to be in the company of people who love good books. Don't know who keeps saying no one reads anymore, but, boy, are they not paying attention. Me personally - I love a cross section of genres: historical fiction (well researched), mystery, suspense - pretty close to anything as long as it's well written. Thanks for allowing me in. Best, Patricia

Fiona Valpy Thank you for having me in the group. Today's an exciting day for me as my debut novel, 'The French for Love' is being launched. It's been described by one reviewer as "the perfect summer read" so, wherever your summer happens to be, I hope you may enjoy exploring the winelands of south-west France from your armchair or sun-lounger!

Looking forward to getting to know you all better...

Bryan | 65 comments Hi all of my fellow readers and writers. As a way to say hello, I have started a giveaway of my sci-fi space adventure, "Jaxxa Rakala: The Search" (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18...). There are 5 copies available with a little over 19 days left to enter. Here's the link:

http://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sho...

As for me, I am an author, an avid reader and movie lover. My favorite genres are sci-fi and fantasy, but really, if it's good, I'll like it (which goes into my own writing as well; a good story can be told in any genre!) Currently I have two published books (the aforementioned Jaxxa Rakala, as well as Year of the Songbird (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17...) and am currently working on my third, hopefully to be published in November (if nothing gets in the way, that is!). This will be followed by the second book in the Jaxxa Rakala series, "Memoirs of Keladrayia."

Don't forget to check out my blog (http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...) and like me on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bryan-...).

Thanks, Rick, for inviting me. I look forward to the discussions we may all have!

T.C. Miller | 2 comments This is my second post, I've been so busy. I just returned from LexiCon 2013, a writer's conference in Denton, Tx, where I was a guest speaker. Independent authors are gaining market-share every day, and this conference proves it!
I recently signed with Timber Creek Publishing to produce the sequel to "BlackJack Bomber". It is "BlackStar Bay, A BlackStar Ops Group Mission," to be published this fall under their imprint.

P.B. Gookenschleim (pbgooken) | 3 comments Beanum Infinitum

In this first thrilling installment of Gookenschleim's Beanum Infinitum series, Gookenschleim attempts to find a happy median between eloquent prose and absurdity. The forty-four pages that follow are his attempt to demonstrate just how excruciatingly ambitious even the silliest of stories can be. After all, his main character is a talking pinto bean. All that's left is a bean burrito monster in search of talking pinto beans to devour; oh wait, there's one in here too.

Mary (maryfirminaolcom) | 32 comments Hi Rick and Everyone Out There, I am a returning member of the group. I have not posted for a while since I am trying to get moving on my second book. My first book, Deadly Pleasures, remains in the top 5-10% of Kindle books. Amazing! I live in Rancho Mirage in the same complex as Patrick McNee of the original Avengers and get to see him a couple of times a week. So that's my claim to fame. I am reviewing books and wrote a couple of short stories for anthology, The Speed of Dark. Just trying to stay busy in this hot weather. 120 degreees along with smoke from the fire in Idelwylde. All the best to all, Mary Firmin

Jeffrey Kern (jkern) | 4 comments Hi all, here is a bit about myself...
I was born and raised in an around the suburbs of Milwaukee Wisconsin. I was introduced to the game of golf around the age 6 by my Great Aunt. Throughout my adolescent years I played off and on when I could. I had a successful 20 year career as a U.S. Marine Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technician that I carried on into the civilian sector. Those many memorable experiences brought me to excellent golf courses around the world. The problem was that I never felt that I was good enough to play on such majestic courses. I never had any type of formal instruction and advice from family and friends was often conflicting and confusing. So I set out to learn all that I could about the game and how it was played. Finally, with a much improved game, I achieved a certification as a Professional Golf Instructor, Club Fitter, Club Maker and Club repairer in 2009. I opened (and soon closed) a golf learning center in Thailand because I wanted help anyone that wanted to learn the game achieve their goal. Back surgery took me out of the game but it didn't take away my desire to help. The more people that play the game the more I myself enjoy it. I wanted to make the process of learning as simple and enjoyable as possible while still gaining the maximum benefits. That is my inspiration for writing

Gerald Griffin (authorgeraldggriffin) | 13 comments Rick, just to bring you up to date on the making of my love-action thriller 'Of Good And Evil' (which, again,I thank you for your wonderful review) into a movie, my movie Producer has recently posted the following on my FB page:

"This is an author, whom has one of the best books I have ever read, and now the script has been ready for some time, the movie is ready for review to the right producers, and soon the world will know why this Author and his movie have been kept quiet and under wraps. They say, you save the best to the last (The Imagination, The Rich, The Fame, The Undiscovered, The Action, The Love Affair, The Novel/Movie--Of Good And Evil). Read it while you can. It's clearly a masterpiece. I know the movie will go number one overnight.
