Barbara Bloom | 1 comments Thank you Rick for leading me in this direction to your James Mason group on Goodreads.

Hello everyone,

My name is Barbara Bloom and I write fun rhyming children's books. When writing I like to keep both the parent and child in my mind. My goal is to create a lasting memory for the child and also spark an interest for the love to read to the beginning reader.

My life consists of raising little busy bee's which are 3 and 5. I am involved with our local schools and libraries. I love to read just about anything.

All three of my books are available on amazon in e-book and paperback version. Signed paperback copies are also available. Just send a message to Barbara Bloom Books: https://www.facebook.com/Booksbybarba...

Debbie Canfield Hi there, my name is Debbie and I love a wide range of books. My favorite is probably mystery/thiller. My mother introduced me to Nancy Drew when I was young and that grew into Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie. In high school I got into Fantasy writers like Anne McCaffery and Mercedes Lackey. I started reading John Grisham and Michael Crichton. My husband introduced me to James Patterson, Michael Connelly and Jeffery Deaver. I also really like history mysteries. Steve Berry is one of my new favorites. I read non-fiction too. My latest was Double Cross: The True Story of the D-Day Spies. World War II is another favorite of mine, fiction and non-fiction. Glad to be a part of a group with a wide-range of genres.

Brian Finnegan | 4 comments Hello all! Delighted to have found this group because not only am I an author who loves reading, but I am a total classic film nut too. So much so that I combined my two loves for my first novel The Forced Redundancy Film Club which was published last year by Hachette Ireland. It's the story of five unlikely friends who set up a club to watch classic movies in each other's homes, and over the course of one year, and ten movies, their lives change, in tandem with the films they're watching.
Writing it was a real pleasure, since much of the research involved me watching my favourite classics, such as Casablanca, To Kill a Mockingbird, Breakfast at Tiffany's, It's a Wonderful Life, and The Wizard of Oz, over and over again.
Nice work if you can get it!
I look forward to being part of the club.

If you aggravate your mother with your writing you're on the right road.

My own mother - may she rest in peace - used to say about my science fiction writing, "When are you going to write something serious?" When I showed her my nonfiction (history and future of media), she said, "When are you going to write something people can understand?"

Phil Anon (philanon) | 3 comments Alcoholism is a disease that affects people in every society throughout the world, this is a very personal journey of one man's battle with alcohol and the effect that alcoholism had on his life and the lives of his family, friends and employers. His story takes us from Scotland to North America and Asia and describes his morbid obsession and heartbreaking addiction to this powerful and destructive drug. This is a graphic description of active alcoholism and his relapse from sobriety into the downward spiral of chaos and misery that picking up that first, fatal drink after twenty three years of sober living can inflict on the alcoholic. His journey is often heartbreaking but there is also great hope and the fervent promise of recovery and salvation. This book may also help those who have been affected by a loved ones alcoholic drinking to better understand the desperation and insanity of the performing alcoholic's mind. Relapse 2 Recovery, memoirs of a recovering alcoholic available on Kindle or in paperback.

Morgan Nyberg Hi all. I'm Morgan Nyberg, Canadian literary & kids' author, although I seem to have inadvertently slid into the post-apocalyptic/speculative pigeon-hole because of my novel SINCE TOMORROW. By way of introduction, here is the bio from my Amazon page:

Morgan Nyberg was born in Port Arthur, Ontario and grew up in farming country in southern British Columbia. After graduating from the University of British Columbia he worked as a labourer for a decade before finally settling into teaching. For most of the last 30 years he has lived abroad, teaching English as a Foreign Language in Ecuador, Portugal and the Sultanate of Oman. His first book, The Crazy Horse Suite, a verse play, was performed on the stage in New York and was broadcast on CBC Radio. His memoir, Mark, won the CBC Literary Competition. His first venture into book-length fiction, a children's novel, Galahad Schwartz and the Cockroach Army, won Canada's prestigious Governor General's Award for Literature. Since then he has added a further children's novel, Bad Day in Gladland, and three novels for adults, El Dorado Shuffle, Mr. Millennium, and Since Tomorrow. He currently lives on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

Jan Moran (janmoran) | 1 comments I arrived here through Rick's post on a LinkedIn group--thank you! I'm a writer, and my most recent work is a historical fiction novel, Scent of Triumph, a Coco Chanel-meets-Titantic Movie sort of book about a female French perfumer set during WWII. It's received good reviews from Midwest, Kirkus, LA Times, and many readers. I'm currently working on my next book, which is soon to be unveiled.

I've been in the fragrance and beauty business for years, and wrote two nonfiction books on perfumery. I also created a touch-screen program for Sephora stores called Scentsa, where you can look up any fragrance and discover details about it. Perhaps some of you who shop Sephora stores have seen it. Anyway, my experience in perfumery led me to write this book.

Delighted to be here! Come friend me here on Goodreads!

Best,
Jan

Marian Schwartz | 1 comments Rick,

Thank you for the invitation to join your group!

I'm a novelist who writes contemporary fiction. That said, I'm now working on a group of short stories and a novella that take place in the years between the early 1950's and 1970. The stories will be published in a book called GIFFORT STREET. One of the stories, "Harry Danced Divinely," is the only response in fiction that I am aware of to PORTNOY'S COMPLAINT. The first story, "Meddie," which is about a trusted housekeeper/nanny, will be out soon.

In my novels, I try to "test" the form, to push in a new direction. In REALITIES, the narrative is a young widow writing to her husband, who committed suicide. In THE LAST SEASON, THE STORY OF A MARRIAGE, the married couple, Buddy and Ginger, take turns telling their story. THE WRITERS' CONFERENCE, as one reviewer said, shows the underside of writers' workshops and publishing.

Writing is always an adventure!

Leigh Lane (leighmlane) | 11 comments Hi! Thanks so much for the invite!

I'm Lisa Lane, although I write my most serious work under the name Leigh M. Lane (Leigh was my nick-name growing up). I write speculative fiction, mainly sci-fi and horror, all with a literary slant. It is my firm belief that fiction should have a purpose to it and should always consider the potential literary analysis performed by both peers and generations to come.

Call me a geek, but for me, literature is as much a puzzle to be solved as it is a story to be read. To create the puzzle behind the story, one must be vigilant about theme, structure, symbolism, and other important literary tools. A horror novel should be as profound as it is terrifying. A work of science fiction should say as much about the world around us as it works to entertain its readers. Perhaps I'm just old-school, but I truly believe that with the creation of art comes the responsibility to make a statement about something meaningful.

I have ten published novels, although only four of them are under the name Leigh M. Lane. Although the other six are published through a well established small press, I would prefer to focus on my Leigh M. Lane novels, which I feel reflect better my personal literary philosophy.

My Poe-inspired Gothic horror FINDING POE is currently an EPIC finalist, and my corporate dystopia WORLD-MART was among the top finalists in last year's P&E Readers' Choice Awards. If you are interested in reading more about my work, you an find me at http://www.cerebralwriter.com.
