My name is Roy Mcconnell. I have been reading and writing since I was about twelve. My favourite type of reading is pretty much any book that grabs me from the beginning, entertains me, makes me think but not too hard, doesn't overdo description, has lots of action, engaging dialogue, well developed characters, and holds my interest all the way through. I am also a published author. My first novel, Mind Walker, was published September 2009. You can check it out on my website at www.roymcconnell.com. I look forward to getting to know all of you.

Thank you for the welcome. I'm thrilled to have heard about this group from Rick. I love learning about different genres, too. I understand what you mean, Roy, about what grabs you and doesn't let go.
Welcome to Tim, Frances, and Roy. I, too, am relatively new to this group, but it is fantastic. I am loving it!
I'd like to thank Rick for the invite. It's always great to meet other avid readers. I currently work for two public libraries and enjoy a variety of genres. I look forward to participating in the group and getting to know you all.
Hello everyone. My name is Liza Wiemer and I am happy to join this group! All the best, Liza

Thanks, Rick, for the invitation. I'm Jeannie Holmes, an urban fantasy/paranormal thriller author living in the US. My first novel, Blood Law, will be released in July. When I'm not writing, I spend my time reading and enjoying the company of my husband and our four neurotic cats.
Hi, and thanks for the invitation. I'm Rita and while I'm not an author, I do write. Just not publicly yet. LOL! It seems like quite a diverse group and I look forward to interacting with everyone.I am a single mom to three fabulous kids, I work and I go to school. I'm also a book-aholic.
Hey everybody, I'm Jim, and thanks for the invitation. I'm not an author either, and I don't even write, but I do love to read, and will try to support you all that way.
HI all!! I am new here - I have just found some time to finally get on here and do some exploring. I am not an author, BUT I love to read everything and anything. My list of books on Goodreads is limited and certainly does not list everything. I look forward to participating in group book discussions!

I haven't quite worked out how to introduce myself in this group. I, like Jim have only my diverse reading to offer to the group.
I read for the pure pleasure of the reality escape that books offer.

Hello everyone! I think the majority of us are simply avid readers of many genres. We have quite a few authors on board, too, but it's not a requirement! If it were, I would be in trouble! :)
Thanks, Arch! I've been here a while. I have changed my picture a few times in the past month. :)

Congrats on all the success.
I think the new avatar may have confused him.... It's spring and Jeanette obviously has a thing for new avatars. Does you husband dread it when you go to a shoe store?:)

I don't "do" shoes! I'm not a big clothes shopper, either. lol The new avatar is the result of "hanging" with a bunch of cupcake lovers on another GR group. We even wrote cupcake haiku today. :)

I'm a woman.
You really need to meet my daughter...she and some friends from the office where she works used to make cupcake runs to some gourmet cupcake place. Maybe your husband dreads your trips to book stores....or is he a bibliophile to?

There are over a 1000 members in this group, so there are probably quite a few moms and dads here, but I can't say what percentage are or are not parents. :)

I like to buy books, but I'm not a big shopper anywhere, really. I probably spend most of our disposable income on food or my daughter! She has a bigger clothes budget than I do!

I know; I've seen you post this quote before! :) You are not alone, here on Goodreads.

Hi all my name is Cheryl and I read a little bit of everything. I am currently reading Anne Easter Smith's books about Richard III and that time period. I just have to say I am positively glued to these books and hope to pursue the subject further. I am also an avid reader of fantasy, classic literature, and historical novels. Hope to chat with you all soon! ^.^
Thanks for the invitation. I write the Detective Wade Jackson mysteries. The first two, THE SEX CLUB and SECRETS TO DIE FOR, are available and have been highly praised. The third book, THRILLED TO DEATH, will be out in August. (I can't wait; love the cover!) And I have two more contracted to be published next year.
I'm having a blast writing this series, and readers seem to be enjoying it too.

I just added Secrets to Die For to my books L.J.
Hi, I was an English major, but took a job in compouter programming 30 years ago. I've tried to stay current with the field of writing and literature throughout my career. I've read on trains, buses, trolleys, van pools, ad infinitum. I like Victorian Literature (Collins, Dickens, Elliot, Gaskell) but I also like Steampunk, SciFi and Russian Literature. Fav authors: Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Faulkner, Fitzgerald and Dickens. This group "feels" like a good fit.
Cheryl a.k.a Poptart wrote: "Hi all my name is Cheryl and I read a little bit of everything. If you are reading on Richard, let me recommend three books by Paul Murray Kendall. The Yorkist Age is a tour through ordinary life in fifteenth century England, written by a man who knew and loved the period. He also wrote biographies of Richard III and Richard's contemporary, Louis XI of France, arguably two of the finest biographies written in the 20th century. Moving back a bit, look into a series of six novels by Maurice Druon. The series is The Accursed Kings. It starts in 1314 when Philip IV of France burned the last Grand Master of the Templars at the stake in the first novel, The Iron King. DeMolay, as he went up in smoke, cursed Philip and two others. The remaining five novels describe the carrying out of the curse down to 1362, when the 100 Years' War was well under way, and include the fall of the Capetian dynasty and the accession of the Valois. The books are filled with lovely characters, some saintly, some not, some wise, some foolish, and some wholly nasty and evil. The nasty, evil ones are among the best. The series is long out of print, but you should be able to find it in a good library or used book store. Enjoy.
Hello everyone! I'm Pam from the St. Louis area and I am looking forward to sharing some book talk with all of you. I read all sorts of genres, however, I have NEVER been able to get into the classics. (shame on me)Thanks for the invite Rick, it is great to be here. I'm afraid that it is going to take me a couple of days to cruise through all the threads that you have started.
Hi!I was recently invited to join this group and since anything British always catches my eye, I said "why not!" I am a psych major in Chicago and hope to go on into forensic psychology.
I will basically read anything, but I go through phases where I am really into one mood or another. I spend at least an hour of every day reading, although that feels like too little. On my lucky days, I can spend about 5 or 7 and I live for those days! I love getting recommendatios and will almost invariably read them, whether they are "my type" or not.
Have recently been on an historical fiction kick, although I am getting into the "southern charm" of some other books. They make me feel really cozy after I read them, which, in the rainy Chicago weather of late, is of utmost importance.
Currently reading the Listener by Shira Nayman and really liking it. Centered around a psychiatric hospital, so it is right up my alley!
