(view spoiler)[Kaladin's chapters are definitely my favourite. I love him slowing improving his own circumstances. Dalinar and Adolin... I like Dalinar but Adolin's too immature. He's all about the glory of war right now. Also, the King is a fucking idiot. (hide spoiler)]

This is really bad. Szeth is too powerful and now the world's in trouble. And I just feel so fucking bad for him. Death would be a thousand times better than the life he has. I mean, personally, I would be okay if some of the highprinces died (not Dalinar), and I'm not really liking Alethkar so some change wouldn't be bad. But the amount of trouble that's up ahead is... this is not gonna end well. (hide spoiler)]

I just got done with Ch 8 today and I'm enjoying it so far!! I find the magic system far more interesting than the one in Mistborn, and I'm quite engaged with the main two plots that we've been seeing, surrounding Kaladin and Shallan. Kaladin's parts are just slightly less interesting because he can't really use magic - yet. I'm interested to see what is this windspren that's following him around though and why. I'm bewildered by this strange plan Shallan has to (view spoiler)[steal Jasnah's Soulcaster (hide spoiler)] - it just doesn't seem very well thought-out to me. Looking forward to finding out more about this world.

Yes, Mistborn is the only work I've read from him so far! I'm currently also reading The Well of Ascension alongside Way of Kings. Personally I think I like the magic system in Way of Kings a lot more, haha. What about you?

I'm just about halfway through Ch 12 now: (view spoiler)[I feel sorry for Kaladin but I'm excited to see how he's going to bounce back from the bottom. We still haven't seen much from Shallan since she got accepted to be Jasnah's ward yet. In Ch 12, we're finally seeing more of Dalinar Kholin and I'm interested to find out more because it seems like he's getting flashbacks to one of the Knight Radiants. (hide spoiler)]

I am absolutely loving this magic system! I have only read Mistborn and wasn't exactly taken with the exceptionally scientific and technical explanations of it. But, the magic system of The Way of Kings is so much cooler and a lot of fun to read about. Also, I am liking the characters more so far. I am not very far through, though! I have read about 2% and have just started the first chapter with Cenn in it. I really hope Szeth comes back because I was very intrigued by his character!

Totally agree with you there, Laura! I can compare them side by side right now since I'm reading Mistborn #2 at the same time, and can definitely say that I'm a bigger fan of the Stormlight magic system so far!!

Ch 13: (view spoiler)[I'm usually someone who skims action/battle sequences in books and just picks out the information that I need to know to follow the rest of the story (like who died, who got injured, and broadly what happened) - but I gotta say I really enjoyed the monster-hunting sequence with Dalinar protecting Elhokar against the chasmfiend (what a name). I legit thought either Alodin or Elhokar was going to die (I think Dalinar is far too important for him to die so early on). I just LOVE how the magic system was shown off here, the Shardblades going in and out of existence as and when they're needed. Also, they are described as "misting" into existence... I wonder if that's anything to do with Mistborn, hmmmm. Also, it doesn't escape me that Dalinar's Shardblade is called Oathbringer, ho hum ho hum. (hide spoiler)]

Sorry I am reading through this one really slowly! I am not finding much time or motivation to read anything of late!

I am about 10% through.
So far I am really enjoying this! I am not so interested in Shallan, but I absolutely love Kaladin's character! I am so intrigued by the Windspren and makes his chapters way more interesting! Obviously no sign of the third character. I wonder how he will tie into the whole story with the other three. This is going to be a REALLY long series, but if it keeps up like this I am definitely going to be continuing. The book may be long, but it is fairly fast-paced and really, really entertaining!

We have completely opposite opinions! I definitely find Kaladin's chapters more interesting!

I think I was mildly more interested in Shallan than Kaladin in the first part, probably because we learnt a bit more about their gemstone-currency with her and that was fascinating. Kaladin's arc gets a bit more interesting later on though, but I'm only about 50% through, just done with Part Two.

YES! I've already ordered the next two books because I already feel myself being sucked in. Not sure if you've started reading about the 3rd character yet, but I think his arc is the most interesting to me so far and really ties everything in to the central theme of the book. I'm really looking forward to seeing how things are gonna play out, especially since I've read reviews from people about how the ending of the book was really satisfying.

I am definitely reading this one at a snails pace! It's going to be a long road from this book! There seems to be about 3-4 years between each book, but it will be fun when it all finishes in the end!

I think I might just read the last Mistborn book just cos I'm a completionist and I want to know roughly what happens since I'm already two books in.

I just ended with Ch 36 now and things are really shaping up, although honestly leaving us with more questions than answers but I'm down with this. (view spoiler)[What was the face that Kaladin saw in the highstorm? Why did he survive it? Did anything change about him after that? What was Jasnah's intentions with showing Shallan the power of the Soulcaster? Does she know what Shallan had planned? Because all the little "accidental" statements she dropped didn't sound like coincidence. What will happen after Shallan steals it? If Jasnah knew and Shallan was just playing into her ploy, what is the bigger ploy here? Was Jasnah sexually assaulted before? She seemed to have some history from what she said after she attacked the men in the alleyway. (hide spoiler)]

Ch 47: (view spoiler)[So... Kaladin could've been a Shardbearer but chose not to be. I like this contrast between how he used to be blindly resenting the lighteyes but now that he's in his current situation, he's reassessing his previous attitude, and saying that if we topple them and take their place, we'll just be the same as them but just hurting a different group of people. That is so so true even in our real world. Also, I'm fascinated by the figures haunting Shallan in Ch 45, that was so excellently done and horrifying at the same time. It's like Sanderson gives us a few details but an avalanche of more questions. I can feel the famous Sanderson slippery slope in the last 1/3 of the book happening already. (hide spoiler)]

I get what you mean! I was really annoyed because my order from Bookdepo got lost somewhere and it just never came even though I've ordered it nearly a month ago now. I went to my local bookstore and bought it directly instead (and it was cheaper too), and got a refund from Bookdepo.

I'm excited to hear your thoughts about this! There's so much to discuss about the book. I can't wait to get on to Words of Radiance but I need to give myself a break, I generally don't like to read books of the same series consecutively, but I'll definitely get on it really soon.

Finally making some progress on this one! I am at chapter 9. Shallan's character is growing on me, now! Although, she has deceiving intentions I still hope she succeeds. Kaladin's still my favourite, though. He just suffers from so much but manages to still try and survive! Curious about how the story will progress from this point.

20% Finally seeing Kholin. I am getting a bit bored reading his chapter, but hopefully it will pick up. Kaladin's character continues to grow on me and get better and better. The interlude is interesting! It is kind of fun having a break from the main pov's to see different cultures.
