Beldon deputy sheriff Doug Lee (who first got away from the killers) lost his life to seeming arrogance. Was there more the women could have done to protect him from himself?

Tracey (trakka) | 407 comments I was really frustrated with Lee and thought what an idiot. I don't think they could have done anything as he seemed determined.

It was terrible watching him walk out to certain death. I kept hoping that the women would be able to reach him. It was really, really arrogant and dumb.

Tracey (trakka) | 407 comments Yes it was terrible. I was kind of hoping he would get away with it.

Melissa (melissasd) | 194 comments They should have spoken up. Made him shut up and listen to them. Even if they were unsuccessful, it may have made the situation easier to handle.

I got the impression that they summed him up and knew it was futile. I'm with you, though, thinking maybe they could have made a stronger appeal.

It seemed to me he was symbolic in this story about the misconceptions about women. From the beginning, the men attributed their lateness to female behavior, Hemmer underestimated the women's ability to outsmart him and Doug Lee lost his life pulling the alpha male card. Even the guy masquerading as a state patrolman thought his charm would be sufficient to capture them.

It's just a theme I felt throughout the story.

Melissa (melissasd) | 194 comments I felt it as well. Grace, Sharon and Annie kept being referred to as "the girls".
