I have also posted this in the Historical Romance discussion group. Read this adult historical romance book in hard back form at least 6 years ago (2009) though I'm not certain exactly when. It may have been further back. The hero is looking to get married (in his 30s I think). Former military. The heroine is a widow of a much older military officer who served with the hero. Heroine is not much younger than the hero. Hero knew the heroine when her much older officer-husband was still living. The hero wants to propose marriage to a younger pretty lady, but that young woman is friends with the heroine, and the two ladies scheme together to deflect the attentions of the hero from the younger woman (who is in love with someone else). The hero and heroine end falling for each other. Seduction scenes were quite good and I remember some subplot of intrigue where he has to come to the rescue and the heroine is in some kind of (carriage?) accident. I don't remember character names either. If anyone has ideas, would love to know. Thank you!

@Kit YES! Thank you Thank you. I knew it from the moment I saw the name of the hero. I had recalled his first name was Michael, but couldn't remember for sure.
Soo... this is SOLVED and the title of the book is The Ideal Bride by Stephanie Laurens
