Brianna Waller Hello! I am in somewhat of a book slump. I've been rereading Harry Potter and Divergent because I just can't seem to find a series I can get into (it happens every once in a while!)
I have read many of the more popular YA series including but not limited to:
Divergent
Mortal Instruments
Delirium
Cinder
Matched
Hunger Games
The Selection
The Maze Runner
The Testing
Splintered
Dorothy Must Die
The Knife of Never Letting Go
Across the Universe
The Fault in Our Stars
The Legend
and many many more. Some of these I loved some were just okay (Matched, the Selection, The Testing were just OKAY)
I want something with a very good story line that isn't completely predictable.
I do not care for anything crime related (no police or military mysteries etc.)
Not a huge fan of fantasy. I do not care for the writing style of Game of Thrones but LOVE the show.
Love anything to do with space/aliens. Love Govt. conspiracy.
Any suggestions would be helpful as I feel like I've been searching for over a week and finding nothing interesting!
:)

Ianthe I would suggest The Program by Suzanne Young or Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi if you haven't read those :)

Brianna Waller I tried Shatter Me but couldn't get into it. Might try it again! I looked into The Program but haven't tried it yet. Thanks for the suggestions!

Nuran Read angelfall. Tough heroine trying to find her sister in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by angels. I enjoyed Hunger games series, and the first of divergent but angelfall is my favourite ya series.

Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee

And though there are angels, it has a more sci-fi approach than fantasy.

Brianna Waller I actually read Angelfall! The worst thing is that I've read so many of the YA series and love them, but after a while they all seem kind of the same.

Brianna Waller And if you've only read the first Divergent book and only liked it you should finish the trilogy. The story line gets much better!

I have finished the trilogy, the second was okay, I did enjoy some of it but the rest just felt like all the main characters were doing was sulking, and I didn't like the third because it was a big repetitive mess.

The Unwanteds (below) is kind of a YA book.

The Unwanteds (Unwanteds, #1) by Lisa McMann

Also by Lisa McMann:

Crash (Visions, #1) by Lisa McMann

Lenny the ruby red trilogy is awesome. If you like aliens you could read the lux series (awesome) or the lorien legacies (super awesome :P). If you would like to try some high fantasy i would definitely reccomend the daughter of smoke and bone trilogy :)

Brianna Waller Huge fan of Lorien legacies! Can't wait for the next one!

message 11: by Brianna (new) - added it

Brianna Waller I actually downloaded the first few of the lux series a year ago on my kindle and never touched them. Think I'm going to give those a try! :)

Lenny the lux series are pretty amazing :P they just focus a bit more on romance then the lorien legacies. but still they are friggin awesome :D

Lenny Also I can't wait for the next book in the series :P The cliffhanger was insane in the last one haha.

I started Obsidian last night and like it so far. Looking forward to it getting a little more exciting! (only a few chapters in) :) I keep trying to get my Fiance to read the Lorien Legacies so I can talk to him about them! I also really hope they continue with the films...

Lenny Awesome! I think Katy is so relatable. She is a total fangirl haha. Also you better force your fiance to read them (if he does he probably is a keeper ;) haha). An for the films I really hope they either continue them or they do a remake of the first one with the right legacies haha. But it was pretty decently adepted so I wouldn't mind them just continuing where they left :)

Brianna Waller I really like how they cast the first movie, I didn't like it the first time I watched it, but when I re watched it I liked it a little more (That happens a lot with me!)Or turn it into a tv show like they are doing with Mortal Instruments! I made him read the Maze Runner trilogy (couldn't get him to read the prequel) and he loved it!

Lenny OH MY GODS A TV SHOW WOULD BE SO PERFECT!!!!!!!

Jenna You should totally read THE DARKEST MINDS series!! Theres only 2 books out right now which are 1.) the Darkest Minds and 2.) Never Fade
The story is a dystopian where kids have "deadly" mind powers so they're sent to concentration camps. It's awesome because its told from a younger perspective yet its really mature so its still interesting to read. The book basically follows a girl named Ruby and she tries to escape the camps along with 2 guys.
Its really fast paced and has plot twists that you won't see coming and it has some pretty good humor too. I really recommend it!:D

Emma I would suggest this book to anyone: Incarceron by Catherine Fisher. It's unknown, un popular, and not even published in Australia (where I'm from). But it is LITERALLY one of the best book I've ever read. It's a two book series, fantasy. Kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.

*And I realise you said you don't like fantasy, but this book is... not as fantasy as other fantasy novels... if that makes sense

Incarceron (Incarceron, #1) by Catherine Fisher

Then perhaps you might want to try branching out a tiny bit? I mean, if you want to. Adult and YA don't always have the strongest of walls between them, for example.

I'm currently reading the Graphic Novel adaptation of Neil Gaiman's "The Graveyard Book" (in between a couple of hoity toity "classical literature-y things") and loving it.

Lol I sometimes feel like nothing ever gets published in Australia. I have to travel to like 3 book stores just to get a good selection! And even then I don't always find what I'm looking for! If I wasn't so afraid of draining all my money on a credit card, I'd go online.

Mara Dyer Trilogy

Somerandom How about the Wool series by Hugh Howey? That's YA right? It sometimes is in our stores. Well whatever, it's a pretty awesome Dystopian anyway. Or so I've heard.

Also look at The Hollow (The Hollow, #1) by Jessica Verday The Haunted (The Hollow, #2) by Jessica Verday and The Hidden (The Hollow, #3) by Jessica Verday

Emma @somerandom I know how you feel. It's happened to a lot of books I've read. Cute profile pic btw :p

Not enough choice in Aus, imo. And expensive as all hell!

Thanks =)

Alyssa You might like Uglies

message 28: by Brianna (new) - added it

Brianna Waller I read the uglies series and really liked it.

Brianna Waller All really great suggestions thank you! I really appreciate it. I've read a few Neil gaiman books and also some Stephen king but wasn't blown away. I'm not opposed to "adult" books I just haven't had much luck with them.
