I figure it might be nice to have a sort of intro thread. Feel free to share a bit about yourself, and maybe your favorite authors and/or books within the fandom?

I'm a Seattle cat that has one publication so far and two more on the way. I love reading AND writing Fantasy and Slice of Life, though I've been trying to venture out into other genres for both hobbies.

Although I'm not very much into sci-fi, MCA Hogarth is definitely my favorite writer thus far. Kyell Gold is a close second. I'm still new to the literature in the fandom though, so that could change with time.

Kristina Tracer (ktracer) | 1 comments Welcome! I'm also in Seattle, three done, one in desperate need of a rewrite, and one ready to produce. Thanks for creating the group!

Joey (mostlyjoe) Aspiring writer in Central Florida here.

Cecil Fritz (CecilDFritz) | 1 comments Peep peep peep! Chirp!

The name's Cecil D. Fritz! Average, ordinary Mourning Dove and amateur writer at your service! I'm just a bird that has been reading and writing about animals and animal folk for as long as I can remember! X3

Hi, Laura! XP

Hai

College kid here who's also an aspiring writer from Wisconsin...also a tiger.

I'm still new to furry fiction, as I've only read a couple novels so far: Waterways by Kyell Gold, and a By Sword and Star by Renee Carter Hall. I hope to start reading more furry literature though, doesn't matter if it's novels, novellas, short stories, or even poetry. However, in general, I'm trying to read more, even if it isn't furry.

I'm not published anywhere though, but I am working on some furry fiction of my own. Maybe you'll see it, maybe you won't; who knows?

Steven Mando | 2 comments Mando here! Writer and musician and stuff clocking in from Italy. Just realised I never wrote anything in here.

The Guild also has a forum that anyone can join, if there's anyone interested here :)

message 8: by Altivo (new)

Altivo Overo | 10 comments Hello, 'Tivo here, contrarian equine, detail-oriented librarian (Virgo rising ya know,) dreamer and doodler, sometime writer and poet, oddly dated musician. And if that isn't already TMI, I can also cook.

message 9: by Renee (new)

Renee Hall (reneecarterhall) | 3 comments Hi guys! Renee Carter Hall here, or Poetigress, or PT, or 'my lady,' or Madame President, whatever suits the occasion and/or your fancy. ;) Current president of the guild, at least until May or June of next year. Writer of fantasy and soft science fiction that often has anthro characters and shows up in furry venues. Sometimes a poet, occasionally an artist, married for 18 years, owned by a cat, and always too busy these days, it seems, but still trying to participate in things where I can. *waves*

And Ben -- thanks for the review! Glad you liked it. :D

Most of my favorite anthropomorphic fiction was published outside the fandom, and I admit I don't read as much furry fiction as I'd like to, mostly because I'm really picky and it's hard for me to find stuff that interests me enough to feel worth purchasing, especially when money's tight and most of my reading these days comes from the library or from ebook sales through Bookbub. :) But I'm at least trying to read through all the Cóyotl Award nominees before voting closes.

The site proper can be found here: http://furrywritersguild.com/

Joey (mostlyjoe) Umm. I guess I can give more details about myself. I'm called Joey, but eh it's just one name among others I use. I'm a big pen and paper rpg junky and I kinda in my creative burn out stage so sorry about that.

I'm all over the place but always welcome to chat with whomever.

Stephen Coghlan | 13 comments Hello to all:

Allow me to introduce myself as the local popsicle. My name is Stephen Coghlan, and I write just outside of Ottawa, Canada. I've been an avid reader all my life, having lived in the woods without cable and before the internet was fast, and I use writing as a catharsis. I have recently had two of my short stories published, one in Dogs of War, the other in Seven Deadly Sins A Furry Confessional. My Novel, GENMOS, is coming soon from Thurston Howl Publications.

My hobbies include self-deprecating humor, commercial construction, hiking, canoeing, and annoying my poor wife.

I hope that I can one day craft enough stories so that everyone can find pleasure in at least one of my works, but until then, I will continue to inscribe my thoughts as I hope to learn and grow as both an author, and a decent living being.

The pleasure of meeting you all, is mine.

Casey Lehman | 4 comments Yo. I'm a self-published author of an anthro series known as The TalonFyre Chronicles (being re-written) and its prequel series "War of the Third Demon".

I am kind, empathetic but will not take crap from anyone. My hobies are anime, manga, video games, trolling SJWs with facts, writing and drawing.

I am currently working on re-editing on TTC book 1 and have book 2 in the works. WotTD book 2 will have dark and disturbing material in it. I also have a few side-projects, such as the New Adult work on inkitt known as Eden Garter, Dragon Anomaly and my secret anime-inspired project, Fate of Monsters.

Casey Lehman | 4 comments Flight of Dragons is what got me into dragons in the first place. Loved them ever since. I've made a bunch of interesting dragons species since I began my works, such as Yorek's specie, the Wind Dragon and Tago's specie, the Marsh Dragon. I also take a lot of inspiration from D&D, anime, etc.

message 17: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Pluchino Hi everyone! I'm Natalie, a self-publisher of an anthro fantasy series called "Saraynea". I like to use animals native to Asia as well as creatures from mythology. I try to use a wide variety of animals to introduce readers to new species that they may not see as often in anthro books.

I hope to discover some enjoyable anthro books while in this group.

"KayFey" | 7 comments Hello and welcome to the newer comments in this thread. Hope to add a few more of my two cents as well

message 23: by "KayFey" (new)

"KayFey" | 7 comments Sorry, I have short stories (all furry), artwork (mostly furry), essays, and articles published. My influences in Furry started with shows such as Heathcliff and the Cadillac Cats (my fav Heathcliff cartoon), Paw-Paw Bears, Foofur, Petey the Puppy, Wildfire and a lot more U.S. cartoons and overseas animation. I was reading Richard Scarry books before Dr. Seuss. All I know is even when venturing into SFF, I was still consistently drawn to stories featuring sentient animal/beast-like characters or tales from the animals' POVs. And I've been bitten by the Furry Bug ever since... :D

Kiona Willoughby (kiona_willoughby) | 2 comments Hey, everybody! I'm an aspiring author/lioness, and so excited to be here. I haven't been in the fur fandom long, but I'm so glad I discovered it! It's been a ton of fun writing for furries/anthro fans, and I hope to find some books in this niche while I'm here. So nice to meet you all!

message 26: by Bosgo (new)

Bosgo | 1 comments Hi Guys,

Bosgo here, From Texas, living in Austin. Been a long while since I've been reading but finally picked up a copy of "Off the Beaten Path" and have really been enjoying it. The characters are so well developed, at least in my opinion. It's been so long I don't have much of a developed sense of, well... character development.

Initially I started reading again because I joined the NaNoWriMo writing challenge last year and didn't do very good. I realized I have no reference on how to write but I have a world inside me ready to be experienced.

In any case or reason, I'm reading again and enjoying it at lot; I'm just slow at it.

None (mondenkindediting) | 3 comments Greetings and Salutations everyone! My name is Valerie and I'm a freelance editor/beta reader. My website is www.mondenkindediting.com
I specialize in the Fantasy genre as fantasy books are the kind I love reading most and who wouldn't want to be paid for doing what they love?

I haven't actually read many furry books as I'm relatively new to the fandom, but I'm looking to change that! I've got my eye on that "One book every furry writer should read" thread, even though I'm not a writer.

I tried your website, but it's not pulling up. Is there a type-o or are you having technical issues.

Thanks for the recommendations! I'll definitely have to check those books out. By the cover and summary they sound like just the sort of books I'm interested in.

I rarely remember to pop in over here. I'm Lawrence M. Schoen. You may know me as the winner of the Cóyotl Award for my novel BARSK: THE ELEPHANTS' GRAVEYARD.

The sequel to that tome, THE MOONS OF BARSK, came out last month from Tor Books. I hope you like it.

Joe H. (sorram) | 1 comments Hello, I'm known or not very well known around as Silver2075 if anyone wants to look me up. I write as a hobby, but have published several books because I could I guess. It is a futile exercise of throwing money away, but those who do respond or give me reviews seem to like my material, which does lighten the heart when it does happen. As many of you probably are familar, it just doesn't happen often enough. Anyway, I occasionally get online and look for ways to reach new readers such as here, but I've found my social skills as lacking as desire to actually interact with anyone, which leaves me reaching out online nearly as sparse as in person and I really don't get out much. Anyway, I guess this is this years effort to see if anyone else is interested in my hobby. lol

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi there, all! I'm Ashke, an aspiring writer from NY. I'm a long-time anthro fan and have been writing even longer but I didn't really read much outside of furry comics until I discovered Kyell Gold and Fuzz Wolf a couple years back. From there I've found some great authors and they've been a major influence on my most recent work. I try to read anything that catches my interest and I'm hoping to read the noir anthology, Inhuman Acts, next.

As far as writing goes, I'm big on sci-fi and horror stories but have done a number of things in other genres. I've self-published before and would like to try for an official gig in the future.

message 35: by Bill (new)

Bill Ricardi (billricardi) | 1 comments Hey folks! I'm Bill Ricardi, full time author with a lot of Furry content (both as myself and under a super secret pen name :) ). I just joined up with the Guild, and I'm exceedingly happy to be here.

On the community side, I'm a pre-net East coaster. I used to help run the XE-BBS in Massachusetts with Sonic, which was my first full on exposure to the community outside of animal rescue efforts. Decades later, I live in Belfast with my hubby (also a Furry) and a giant cat named Loki.

On the writing side, I'm the author of 'Another Stupid Trilogy' (orcs and were-cats and minotaurs, oh my!), 'A Princess of Last Resort' (half orcs and were-wolves and more minotaurs, oh my!), and an urban fantasy series called 'The Ihy Saga' (does Apis the bull god count?). And of course, I've written a ton of more risque things under a pen name, including a Furry sci-fi novel.

Lovely to be here! Now I need to get back to writing. :)

message 36: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Pluchino Hello everyone! I'm Natalie Pluchino and I write furry action/ adventure fantasy books. I usually write about animals native to Asia and include creatures from Asian mythology as well. I currently self-publish my books on Amazon and also have a blog that is linked to my author page where I post progress updates and free chapters for visitors to check out. I have books from 2 series available:

1. Saraynea which focuses on a red panda shaman as she and her team of friends work together to protect the elemental spirits of the spirit realm.

2. Raven and the Phoenix Pirates which revolves around red panda, Raven, a trained fighter who balances her royal duties as a princess with her adventures alongside a crew of pirates.

As a reader, I've enjoyed the Warriors series by Erin Hunter and most recently have been reading books by Kyell Gold.

Jason Howl | 2 comments Hello, I like weird fiction. I realize not all furry fiction falls under the category of weird fiction, maybe most does not. But mostly I like good writing, whatever, the genre.

I have a short novel, Breeding Season, you might want to check out. I'm eager to see what my fellow Goodreads authors are up to here. And my next book will be about a sad spider in love.

One of my fav stories by someone else: Cuddly Holocaust by Carlton Mellick III

message 38: by Jason (new)

Jason Howl | 2 comments Natalie do you have more current pages on your blog? I keep getting expected to a page from 2017

message 39: by Adam (new)

Adam H | 1 comments Hi all,
I'm an avid reader but not yet a writer (though like many here I have a sea of ideas floating around that I need to get down at some stage!)

My sona is Drethen - a UK based spotted hyena whos been in the fandom as a whole since about 2005ish.
Mostly I read M/M romance of the fantasy variety, but I've been trying hard this year to read more genres. (In between University studies)

Kyell Gold served as my introduction into furry writing being more than just a page long notepad document on FA, and now I'm very ready to dive into other works.
As such, it's nice to meet you all :)

Can they survive the chaos and violence of the world they have entered?
