Booknblues | 12530 comments Have you ever found yourself stumbling across something in your reading repeatedly? Maybe every book you pick up has a rabbit in it and you become interested in rabbits and seek out books with them so you can find out more. You have gone down a rabbit hole in your reading.

We have developed the Down the Rabbit Hole challenge to encourage this type of exploration and hopefully some interesting and enlightening conversations.

- We will need your help in generating ideas for rabbit hole investigations.
- We will randomize your ideas and present 5 Rabbit Holes a month for you to go down.

Here is an example of 1 month’s choices

Rabbit Holes of the month
Horses
City life
Building/architecture/engineering
AI
WWI/The Great War

-We will present 5 Rabbit Holes each month.
-Participants are not required to participate each month and may begin at any time.
-Participants may read from any or all of the Rabbit Holes.
-The book will be considered for a Rabbit Hole if it fits the 5 tag rule, if a major portion of the book concerns the subject verified by book blurb/description or a quote from the book to show the subject matter and possibly book title. What we want to avoid is just an incidental mention, for example if a character sees some horses in a field, this would not be counted as going down that Rabbit Hole.
-Each book read earns a game point
-An extra game point for matching PBTag of the month.
-5 extra points for reading 5 books in a Rabbit Hole or reading 1 book for 5 Rabbit Holes.
-Please track your points throughout the challenge.
-Once a quarter participants may ask for an alternate Rabbit Hole to the ones which are presented and they will receive a randomized result.
-We will have a raffle at year's end which will be weighted by points earned.

For those members who find a Rabbit Hole which they like once a quarter they may designate one rabbit hole as their "warren". They can stay in their warren as long as they want, and books they read in their warren gets them a raffle entry.

This might be the first time I fully participate in a PBT challenge. This one sounds so up my alley.

message 14: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 16182 comments That's really a wonderful list! Some of the suggestions are so creative and interesting, I wish I'd thought of them.

And I LOVE that there is 'rabbits' as an option *guffaw*. Of course as Fran knows, I've already fallen down a rabbit hole about rabbit holes, and I'm already figuring out my bunny name and what I'm naming my primary burrow at the bottom of the rabbit hole -- where plotting and strategizing will happen. From it I will be digging tunnels to create a warren with a separate burrow to hold the books and research i fall down.

In fact, I think everyone in the challenge needs to come up with a bunny name.

message 15: by KateNZ (new)

KateNZ | 4204 comments Fabulous list, Fran! This is going to be such fun.

Brilliant idea about the rabbit name, Theresa. I’m in! I’ve always loved the Miffy picture books so that was an easy choice

message 16: by Robin P (last edited Dec 15, 2025 07:59AM) (new)

Robin P | 6133 comments Hmm, there's Peter, Flopsy, Mopsy & Cottontail, and Benjamin Bunny from Beatrix Potter
Roger Rabbit
Harvey the invisible rabbit (except to one person) from the play with that name
the White Rabbit and the March Hare from Alice in Wonderland
Bugs Bunny, Thumper, Oswald, Br'er Rabbit
Energizer Bunny, Fiver and others from Watership Down

For a huge list - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...

Theresa | 16182 comments I have taken Pookah, honoring Harvey who is a pookah in the movie. Saw a wonderful production in 2012 on Broadway with Jim Parsons as Elwood who is only person who sees Harvey for most of the show/film.

A pookah is a mischevous spirit. Fits I think.

Olivermagnus (lynda11282) | 5000 comments I'm taking Bunnicula. He's a vampire bunny who sucks the juice out of vegetables. That was one of the first "older"books my grandson and I read together. Not as cute and cuddly as some, but I love that name.

message 19: by Joanne (last edited Dec 15, 2025 05:51AM) (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12937 comments haha! Oh, Lynda, I wish I had thought of Bunnicula!

I am Lola Bunny from the Bugs Bunny cartoons and Space Jam!

Jason Oliver | 3238 comments I will take Jazz Jackrabbit!!

Sue | 2799 comments I'll take Jessica Rabbit. I haven't had a figure like her's in many years, but I do have red hair.

I changed my mind almost immediately. I'm taking Dust Bunny, since I'm expecting to dig right into the dusty corners during this challenge.

Heather Reads Books (gothicgunslinger) | 883 comments Does the killer rabbit in Monty Python and the Holy Grail have a name? That's the first one I thought of LOL

Rabbit of Caerbannog, knowly fondly as Killer Rabbit. Could be Carrie for short?

Here's Killer's 'biography' - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit_...

Plus there's a lot less maintenance. Jessica requires WORK to stay that stunning.

Robin P | 6133 comments I will take Roger Rabbit -
description - "Roger is zany, kind-hearted, humorous, energetic, a bit naïve and not very clever. He loves to make others laugh" - a bit of a smart-aleck even when it's not appropriate, something I have often been.

I am so not creative! For all my cats, if they've already come with a name, I've kept it! Io didn't have a name, so I came up with that. I'd love to use another astronomy name if I had another pet I had to choose a name for, but not sure that fits as a "cute bunny name".

ETA: I've always thought I'd like to use another one of Jupiter's moons as a name for a pet. 2/3 are not cute! LOL! (Ganymede and Europa. I like Callisto as a name, though.)

Thank you. I always tell myself I shouldn't look at social media without being caffeinated but this one time I am pretty pleased haha

Booknblues | 12530 comments I wonder if the Cabana Boys will come around to hand out carrots and other goodies?

message 38: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 16182 comments Thinking their service is going to be needed getting us in and out of these Rabbit Holes and seeing we are properly outfitted and supplied, I have informed JoAnne, the Cabana Boys wrangler, of their location (on my family farm with many of the mounts from Steeplechase. The mighty steeds are very happy and cozy in the barn, refusing to leave. Even Sparkle has settled down there. I think she and Buck have a romance going. Bessie says the Cabana Boys have become fat and lazy ....

message 39: by Joanne (last edited Dec 15, 2025 01:26PM) (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12937 comments They are already digging their burrow! And everyone needs to get themselves primped, because opening day is New Years Eve, and a huge party is planned.

Not just carrots, Fran. They are opening a not-so-proper pub. The Hare of the Dog is getting all prepped. Joy They are asking that you get your Magic Trunk moved in, and Amy They are wanting Gnarly to tend bar, as all of them have other jobs in the joint.

Sounds like 2026 is going to be the year of the rabbit, no matter what the calendar tells us!

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8551 comments My rabbit name is Conejita (little girl rabbit in Spanish)

message 41: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 16182 comments @Amy - how about Lapine? French for girl bunny/rabbit. It honors your love of France and daily work on your Frency. Plus there this a cute animated video with a bunny song, though for a male bunny which is Lapin:

I love that! When I was teaching the kids would have loved it and we did have many rabbits who we saw on our playground.

Lyn (lynm) | 1181 comments My grandbunny is Teddy Bear the bunbun, so I will be doing this challenge with him! He is awesome at finding rabbit holes :)
He is a cutie, you can follow him on instagram @teddybearthebunbun

message 44: by Amy (new)

Amy | 13156 comments Lapine is WAY better than ears. So all my alters have a romance going? I think I don’t mind this one bit.

message 45: by Hayjay315 (new)

Hayjay315 | 468 comments I have selected Kaninella as my bunny name. Kanin is the Swedish word for bunny.

Algernon (Darth Anyan) | 661 comments I would have taken the mythical Bunny God from The Limits of Enchantment by Graham Joyce, a truly scary experience for a teenage witch in the 1960s, but it would be a re-read for me.
Calling on Him by his true name can be deadly

message 47: by Joy D (new)

Joy D | 10585 comments I am going to take on the persona of Judy Hopps from Zootopia. Rumor has it that she and I share a few personality traits...

I plan to bring the Magic Trunk, and Dr. Hippocrates will be available for veterinary needs if they arise.

Algernon, I don't think you were here for our various "creative" takes on past challenges. This year's games were pretty sedate. Last year a Steeplechase race challenge allowed us to choose our mounts, everything from a cow to a dragon. Theprevious year, a game designed to help us clear out our TBR shelves turned (through several members' imaginations) into a series of train cars, complete with decor, refreshments, and some cabana boys for entertainment.

I joined in the middle of 2020, when the game was based on American states, and I never did figure out all the madness of that one!
