The Metamorphosis
question
How similar do you find Gregor Samsa's character with that of Kafka, from the little we have known him?
Everyone in his circle thought of him as a nut job at him when he was writing Metamorphosis, they were like "what is it about?". He went on explaining 'A man wakes up finds himself transformed into a bug'; back then everyone laughed their asses off. It's still funny to this date to some. He didn't explain what is it really about, he could have, but he didn't for a reason. Sometimes I think he's more existential of a person than Camus and Sartre.
Anyways, Kafka had the real chuckle when their laughs defined and whittled this novella. His psychological experiences in the capitalist economic society, reflected a lot of impact, ahead of his time and human condition. Some people roar, some don't; Kafka wasn't really a roaring type. A simple bot who gets his job done, mostly lived alone, found writing as his companion, his privacy, his charm. Minding his own way like a bug.
Most of his characters represented fragments himself so everything was very personal to him; so maybe that's the reason he told his friend (Max Brod) that his works "should be burned unread and without remnant" after his death. But you know you can never blame 'friends'! So we are all glad Mr.Brod didn't, Kafka isn't here to give a flying squirrel.
