I teach kindergarten and in December it is gingerbread time in my room. We read and compare many retellings of the classic story of the Gingerbread Man. This task is based on some of our favorite ones.
This is a two book task.
-Choose two different options and read one book from each . For this task option 2 has an A and a B, these are considered two different options and both may be used.
-As this task is based on children’s picture book, One children’s or related genres book OR one graphic novel/manga/comic (but not a children’s AND a graphic novel) may be used.
Required: State the option
Option 1: Gingerbread Baby
Jan Brett’s Gingerbread Baby trilogy of books are always a favorite.
Read a book that is part of a trilogy. (whole numbered books only). All books do not need to be yet published but must be listed as part of the trilogy. For the purpose of this task a trilogy is a series that contains only 3 (whole numbered) books.
The series name and number must be listed on the book's main page.
Option 2: Gingerbread Cowboy
This book has a southwestern twist on the gingerbread story.
A: Read a book with a cowboy hat on the cover (classic Stetson-style with wide brim and high crown but not a Mexican sombrero style - though I know that those are the original cowboy hats). The hat may be on someone’s head or by itself. The whole hat need not be visible as long as it is clearly a cowboy hat. Silhouettes are fine.
Required: Post the Cover

B. Read a book that is set in one of the Southwestern states (Arizona, New Mexico, California, Colorado, Nevada, Oklahoma, Texas or Utah)
Required: If setting is not evident on the main page, provide a reference
Option 3: Ninjabread Man
This one obviously stars a magical ninja cookie.
Read a book based on Japanese folklore/mythology from one of these lists:
Fiction Based in Japanese Mythology
Japanese Mythology Books
Required: State the list and the page your book is found on
Option 4: Gingerbread Pirates
This is a Christmas themed story with pirate cookies! Read a book from the first 20 pages of this list of pirate books
Pirates Books
Required: state the page your book is found on
Option 5: As all of these books are retellings, read a book with an MPG of Retellings
