How about
? It's definitely an explosion, but it's very close-up and mostly behind the 18.

ETA: That's not the same group of lists I got on tablet earlier - that group had fireworks, so I guess it's grabbing a random group every time.

The lists you get depend on whether you search for explosion or explosions. I don’t know why.

"Ooooh boy, because it's not the entire cover that's the photograph, but a corner of the cover. I'll say yes. It looks like it's depicting a photo.
This is an example where the photo IS the cover and wouldn't be accepted:

It looks like it is - like a train blew up.

I'll accept cats of prey, However, the rules state that the object on the cover needs to be prominent. It needs to be the focus of the cover. To me the focus of that cover is the follage in the centre.

Canada has three major rivers west of the Rockies, but only the Fraser river could count here since it has cities on it. So, does it have to be famous, or just major in importance?"The Fraser River is crucial for British Columbia's ecosystem and economy, serving as Canada's largest salmon-producing river and supporting diverse wildlife. It also plays a significant role in various industries, contributing nearly 10% of Canada's GDP through sectors like forestry, agriculture, and transportation."
Also, Richmond, BC is the home of the Vancouver International Airport which is built on the Fraser River delta. Could I read a book in any of the cities that are the Fraser River? Those are Richmond, of course, Burnaby (a number of celebrities are from there--it's where Michael J. Fox grew up, musician Michael Bublé, there's a university that's won prestigious scientific prizes, etc) Surrey (Sam Worthington, star of Avatar is from there, among others) and Maple Ridge (actress Molly Parker plus baseball hall-of-famer Larry Walker) (all part of the Metro-Vancouver regional district.) None of the other municipalities on it are incorporated as cities.

Thanks, Janice. I thought so too, but wasn't sure. This is my top choice right now.
I found this series where most of the books have explosions on the cover, including the first book of the series.

The Fraser River would be a major river. The description would mean "major as in major importance". Famous isn't part of the equation. Any city on the river would qualify.
Janice wrote: "I found this series where most of the books have explosions on the cover, including the first book of the series."Thanks, Janice. I'll add it to my options.
Like you, I know I've seen plenty of covers with explosions. Of course, I just can't seem to remember any of them now that I'm trying to. I did find a few that fit the task, so I'm pretty happy with that.

Laura wrote: "Nothing to See Here..."I want that book! Laura, you are seriously damaging my credit card 😂
What's damaging my credit card is the site-wide sale at Audible. I bought Umbra
I've decided that I'm going to ease up the explosion task and say "an explosion, or what appears to be an explosion".
It needs to be reasonably surmised that it's an explosion. Let's not get carried away. It's just that I didn't realize it was going to be problematic.
At first glance I thought Umbra had stars given the series title. But when I opened the picture in it's own tab, I could see a space ship under a space station. It looks that the tiles are exploding into space.
So, tell me a story and why you think your cover is applicable,
We know the story of Pompeii and that the red background is fire, but it doesn't really look like an explosion or that it looks like it could be an explosion. Take away the title and you're got a red sunset. Sorry, I don't think that's going to pass the sniff test.
Margo wrote: "Laura wrote: "Nothing to See Here..."I want that book! Laura, you are seriously damaging my credit card 😂"
LOL I aim to please, Margo! Let the plastic scream, I say lol (but don't let my husband hear this haha)
Margo wrote: "Dammit, should have asked earlier - you've got your meanie hat back on 😜"LOL and I was just about to say, wow, she really has lost the meanie hat permanently then I saw that :D
Umm, I’d like to join the problematic-explosion-party.:
I think what we see on the cover is the explosion of an asteroid/meteorite hitting the earth. I was sure that it would pass but now that I’ve followed the discussion I’m not anymore… Does it count?
Janice wrote: "Karin wrote: "Canada has three major rivers west of the Rockies, but only the Fraser river could count here since it has cities on it. So, does it have to be famous, or just major in importance?"..."
Thanks; I thought as much, but prefer to be sure.
(hope you enjoyed the accidental rhyme in that last bit :) )
Pragya wrote: "Marie, try the tiny eye website for color. It's hard to get anything past that though 😭😆"TinEye is easy to use, and this isn't the first time I've been in a group who uses/d this for colour checking. I've had it saved to my bookmarks for a long time--can't remember when it first came up in a group.
Other links I have from GR games/challenges include farthest city (straight line) from where you live, how to find an antipode and one with the (straight line) distance between any two places.
I'm a "recovering" (for those who don't know me, that's a joke since I don't have an addictive personality nor am I a gambler) reading gamer :) I've banned myself from games with winners, especially if there is a prize since I always "have" to place high with my team or solo no matter how much I start off saying I'm only playing for fun. I come from a competitive family (for fun only and we all get along afterward!)
I think Marie was having trouble with her computer accessing Tineye so Janice had told her to ask for a ruling instead.I do like using it though, but sometimes it's weird calling what looks like a big yellow patch half and half with orange. But it's always interesting to see the colors that are there that I don't always see or notice.
Margo wrote: "How about this one?
"We'll call that a supernova. It looks like it could be an explosion of stars.
Pragya wrote: "Marie, try the tiny eye website for color. It's hard to get anything past that though 😭😆"Marie said that TinEye wasn't working on her computer and I offered to let her ask for rulings. I get this odd notification myself that it's checking my browser before it opens.

I'll accept your reasoning.
I'm stuck on "photograph on the cover" unless I read a YA book (and I can't, sorry). Please let me know if any of these would qualify:
I'm also planning on using this for "explosion" if it's okay:
Thanks for the help
Roz, I just read a memoir with a photograph on the cover.
The House of My Mother: A Daughter's Quest for FreedomI also found a couple of adult books depending on your interests and if these covers are available to you:
The Roanoke Girls
The Language of Flowers
Thanks Kristie. I looked at those last 2 but the covers with photos on them aren’t available to me. Either one would have been great. I’ll check on the memoir. If it isn’t available with a photo, I saw that there’s a memoir task in one of the later badges so I could use it there.

I got stuck on this one last year. I read The Shifting Fog / The House at Riverton which had this cover:
Edit: In 2023, which apparently, was not last year... lies.
For the photograph on the cover I am planning on reading
. It's historical fiction which might appeal to some :)

Please ask for one book to be verified. (See message 1 in the thread). Pick the one you are most likely to read if verified.
As for the explosion book, I'll accept that.
Thanks, Rus. My library doesn't carry that title, but I can get The Shifting Fog with that cover on audio here. I added it to my options. Roz, I also added Live Bait to my list of options. I read the first one forever ago and completely forgot what the cover was for book 2. I might have to reread the first one if I decide to use it.

Thanks, Rus. I read that one a few years ago by the alternate title.

I haven't read the first in the series so I may have to do that first.
I really enjoyed it, Roz. I remember adding the next in series to my TBR right away. I didn't review it, but I did give it 4 stars back in 2016.
