YA from late 80s, Indian captive, but tough, specific plot point: rides a horse in front of tribe then falls in love

I remember reading this book in my teens so late 80’s and I absolutely loved it. It was moving and more of a venture but absolutely had the love/attraction piece as well. A teen girl is taken captive (there is maybe one very mildly blue part but it wasn’t an erotic novel) and falls in love with an Indian youth in the tribe. Asked a dozen times already, I know but I’ve had no luck finding it. I remember one specific part where the girl rides a horse and members of the tribe watch, sure that she’ll fail but she’s glorious, and the Indian youth was part of the crowd watching her. I remember it was very descriptive in how free she felt riding the horse, and his reaction watching her in how wild and beautiful she looked. It’s the one thing that is still very clear to me from the book. I cannot express how blown away I’ll be if anyone is able to tell me the title!!
