Shemarus | 2 comments I'm looking for a book I read around 2018 during a French class. I don't remember exactly how the plot goes, but here are some elements I still remember:

The story takes place in a dystopian future. The Earth suffers from global warming, pollution, and overpopulation. People there are divided into two groups:
- the poor who live in dusty slums, breathing pollution, and burning because of the Sun.
- the rich who live in a very green city under a dome, protecting them from the Sun, the heat, and purifying the air. They also make the laws and govern the world.

The main character is 12 years old, and she lives in a slum with her family. She also has a friend who lives in the bubble, I think his name was Orion, but I'm not sure.

Because there were too many people, the government implemented a space program, which was supposed to be a chance to start a new life with promises of wealth on a new planet, where there is no pollution.

Each month, the main character received news from her aunt and cousins, who were selected for this program. One day, she received a video call from them, and her cousin was cutting some wood pieces shirtless in the background. She instantly suspected something was wrong because this cousin was supposed to have a huge scar on his back, but it wasn't on the video. Plus, she noticed her aunt didn't remember some past events she was supposed to know.

Her family was drawn to the space program. As she suspected a scam, she didn't follow the group and infiltrated the company. She discovered the program was a facade to kill people secretly when the government had enough data on a family to send fake video calls to their relatives. It was not living people who were sent to the Moon but dead bodies instead.

When I read it, the cover had blue tones, but it might have changed.

Thank you for your time

Is it Flowertown?

I don't know if this is it because I have not read this book but it is on my To be Read, and it has a green cover, and sounds a lot like what you're describing.
