Anita Pomerantz | 9422 comments Okay y'all are getting me very confused.

Here's where I think we are:

BooknBlues is opening 6.

6 is "Read a book with a religious figure as a main character (priest, nun, monk, chaplain, pastor, vicar, rabbi, muezzin, the Pope, Buddha, prophet, etc.).
"

message 52: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9422 comments Here's who is holding what prompts:

1. A book with a main character who is a journalist or journalistic photographer - fiction or non-fiction (Shelly)
2. Read a book set primarily in a hospital (Joanne)
3. Read a non-fiction book on a subject related to your work, job, past job, or job of a significant family member (Olivermagnus)
5. Read a book written before 1990 that takes place in the 21st century (Flo)
6. Read a book with a religious figure as a main character (BooknBlues)
7. Read a book that is a travel essay or memoir (Theresa)
8. Read two books where the authors share a first name (MelanieJoy)
9. Read a book about a hometown or home state athlete (Amy)

message 53: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9422 comments Theresa was allowed to steal #7. She was ineligible to steal #8 back as it was just taken from her on the prior turn.

message 54: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9422 comments Okay, Robin! You are up!

You may steal:

Or you may open the final prompt, #4, and end the game.

Booknblues | 12473 comments MelanieJoy wrote: "Hang on - I stole the #8 author same name one from Theresa, or so thought, Teresa did you steal travel essay from BnB after that (because she had stolen it from you previously)? Just clarifying."

I'm pretty sure that is what she meant. She wasn't happy when I stole it- she was joking a little.

message 56: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 6083 comments Finally! I will steal #3, from Olivermagnus - nonfiction related to work, etc.

message 57: by Booknblues (new)

Booknblues | 12473 comments Anita wrote: "6 is "Read a book with a religious figure as a main character (priest, nun, monk, chaplain, pastor, vicar, rabbi, muezzin, the Pope, Buddha, prophet, etc.)"

Ok, that is interesting and I suspect that I have something which might work.

message 58: by Olivermagnus (new)

Olivermagnus (lynda11282) | 4958 comments I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and steal the incredibly popular:

8. Read two books where the authors share a first name (MelanieJoy).

Sorry! Definitely the travel one - #7 from BnB! I seized the opportunity! @MelanieJoy - your order and assumption. The shared first name you stole from me which allowed me to grab it back from BooknBubbles!

My only excuse is too little sleep too much work or travel over last 3 days, and I was rushing to a Day of the Dead party. I had already made you wait hours!

We are all straightened out now, but I still do have my eye on that, but wanted to get Robin into the mix and I'm wondering if we can get Amy back in somehow.

message 61: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 16068 comments I look at it this way - I stirred things up a bit. Woke you all up!

message 62: by Amy (new)

Amy | 13114 comments Amy is all set…. When I opened my book, and I was the third up….. I wasn’t so sure that I was going to like this one. But in under 10 minutes of research, I found the perfect book that has been on my TBR for forever. I would even steal this one back if it were stolen from me at some point. Don’t feel like you have to please me, girlfriends…. If I get stolen from, fine. But there will be no complaints if I’m left alone.

So glad to hear that Amy, I was afraid it would be something you hated so, hands off.

message 64: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 6083 comments I was thinking of #8 but there was too much competition. And then I realized #3 is perfect. I get paid to speak about historical women, so I am always reading nonfiction related to my “job”.

MelanieJoy (ladybird11) | 145 comments I would like to steal #6 from BnB 😁

Well, you are no longer safe, Theresa- I am stealing # 7

message 69: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9422 comments Ooooh, this is getting exciting. Theresa is up. Here's a recap (alert me asap if you think I have anything wrong).

Theresa, you may steal:

1. A book with a main character who is a journalist or journalistic photographer - fiction or non-fiction (Shelly)
2. Read a book set primarily in a hospital (BooknBlues)
3. Read a non-fiction book on a subject related to your work, job, past job, or job of a significant family member (Robin)
5. Read a book written before 1990 that takes place in the 21st century (Flo)
6. Read a book with a religious figure as a main character (Melaniejoy)
7. Read a book that is a travel essay or memoir (Joanne) OFF LIMITS
8. Read two books where the authors share a first name (Olivermagnus)
9. Read a book about a hometown or home state athlete (Amy)

Or you may open the final prompt, #4, and end the game.

message 70: by Amy (new)

Amy | 13114 comments I wanted to suggest for Shelley - The Color of Ice by Barbara Lynn Probst. I think I sent that one to Joanne at some point. That was a book I never forgot...,

I notice the prompt I submitted is the one that will end the game. So it won't get any traction. Whoever lands it, will be stuck with it. that happened to me once with another swap, where we sent books to one another, and my submission was the last, so it never got any traction. And that book was Remarkably Bright Creatures. Which I thought at the time might have gotten some wind... For some reason I think Cora picked it and ended the game. And I think she loved it. In these swaps, she and I have picked each others picks, by chance plenty of times....

But back to my mysterious submission that will end the game... When I threw it in, I knew that there would be plenty of people it would appeal to.... And maybe a few like me who would just say, "I got nothin' for that." But the person I saw really loving it was Nancy. In my minds eye, she would go straight for it. But she's not even playing in this 4th quarter swap! So who knows if I am even right about that, that she would have "gone" for it. I am just hopeful that it is a good match for whoever ends the game. I can pick out maybe 3-4 people off this list that I suspect might like it, but I won't tell you who, because whoever is going to end the game is going to do just that - and it shouldn't have anything to do with my impressions. But I am interested to see how this unfolds....

Theresa | 16068 comments Really, JoAnne? My sistah' from anotha motha?

Never fear, I know the real culprit is that certain California thief!

Sorry Flo, but I am taking #5. Read a book written before 1990 that takes place in the 21st century.

As compensation, I will treat you to at least one slice of pie when we have our Pie Date at Manhattan Diner!

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12858 comments You are looking at an old list, Amy. Anita has not updated it. I have # 2 now, and I am not sure where everyone else is...lots of stealing has been happening. I might be wrong, but I think Theresa can take it back.

I think we all deserve some of that Pie.

Knew we were hitting the point where someone was going to open the last one. Curious to see what it is.

This was a whole lot of fun, a truly great final swap.

message 89: by Booknblues (new)

Booknblues | 12473 comments I have an inkling, because I looked through Amy's list and know she isn't fond of nonfiction, so fingers crossed that I'm right.

message 92: by Booknblues (new)

Booknblues | 12473 comments I don't know about everyone else, but I'm happy. I have to read one book instead of two that I traded out.
I wanted the travel essay, but I read enough of them anyway and it wouldn't have pushed me.

message 93: by Joanne (last edited Nov 02, 2025 09:20AM) (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12858 comments I will tell my secret now-

I was grabbing # 2,which I submitted 😉. Haha! I wanted it back, because right when the swap started I finally found a book to match it!

This was a great finale for the last swap of the year. I love it when more than one person wants a book. It is fun to watch and participate in!

message 94: by Olivermagnus (new)

Olivermagnus (lynda11282) | 4958 comments I was glad to dump "Read a book written before 1990 that takes place in the 21st century". It was my first swap and it was lots of fun.

That is the one I submitted. I had another of mine in mind, but found something that fit it perfectly, so decided I would trade two books for one, as I really want to complete this list.

message 97: by Theresa (last edited Nov 02, 2025 09:12PM) (new)

Theresa | 16068 comments I think OM was perfect for the 2 books instead of one - it is not a strain for her!

Amy got the one I submitted - which I would have struggled with though I live in NYC with many options - sports not my thing.

BnB - I wanted the travel one so I could manage to read that travel by horse book you recommended!

My secret is that I will ALWAYS steal, unless I am first or so close to the 1st that the open choices are worse than what I submitted. I am not risk averse. I just love stirring things up, watching the gameplay. The liveliness of it all.

I am having brunch at a restaurant in Santa Fe called Seetwater Harvest. There are pie options on the brunch menu - I am having mixed berry pie! Of course...after all my talk of pie.

I love pie!
I thought we were at the point where we were traveling in circles and guessed that the nature one was the last, and I love books about nature, so thought that was safe.

To me it was all worth it if you read the horse one as I think we will have good conversations comparing it to Bernard's.

message 99: by Shelly (new)

Amy, my library system doesnt have a copy of the Color of Ice. I will keep it on my TBR but might go with The Quiet American or Scoop since both are british.
