I did not like the writer's style even a little bit. The book is written in first person and that got very old fast. I feel like I was reading someone's diary on her observations of other wives with snippets of her life being married to a military man. The constant complaints got old too, "we' comes across very spoiled at times. I was so disappointed in this book and was so looking forward to reading about the wives of Los Alamos, even it is a fiction book.

Theresa | 15771 comments I got excited when I saw the title -- but now know I will avoid it. A missed opportunity by the author. Maybe someone else, a better writer, will be inspired.

Booknblues | 12226 comments Decades ago, I read Joseph Kanon's Los Alamos and while it wasn't from the wives perspective, it did include them.

I remember liking it quite a bit.

Also Martin Cruz Smith wrote a book which I read around the same time, called Stallion Gate>

Is goodreads wonky this morning or is it me?

Theresa | 15771 comments My friend who moved to Santa Fe became quite interested in physicists and Los Alamos, especially as she kept meeting present day ones, as for the most part, they live in Santa Fe. In fact, I met one of them at her Celebration of LIfe in August.

She read a lot about Oppenheimer, which led to Los Alamos. One of the books she highly recommended to me was 109 East Palace: Robert Oppenheimer and the Secret City of Los Alamos. I have yet to read it but with my regular trips to Santa Fe over the next several months as I settle her estate, I will no doubt finally do so.

In fact, my next trip is at the end of this month and I'll be going through her print books as I box them to donate. I was planning to keep for myself any about Los Alamos. I can always share back here if I find any of note.
