If you're new around here, you may have missed out on voting for our 2026 list. For those of us who participated in the voting, we all had our favorite prompts that didn't get quite enough votes to make it to the final list.

This is the week to read a book for that favorite prompt. You can choose a prompt ahead of time and read a book for it, or you can use this week to read a book that you've wanted to read and squeeze into a prompt. With over 200 prompts that didn't make the cut, you're sure to find something you'll enjoy!

The Suggestions That Didn't Make It: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

What prompt did you choose to use? Are you choosing the prompt ahead of time?

message 2: by Dubhease (new)

Dubhease | 1256 comments I am using "A book related to iron or steel". Iron is element 26, and I want to use a prompt for 2026.

message 3: by GailW (new)

GailW (abbygg) | 723 comments I am going to use "A book that would fit the 26th prompt from any ATY52 year" and then chose "2021: A short book (<210 pages) by a new to you author". Many of the international books that I read are shorter books and this will work perfectly.

LeahS | 1483 comments So many rejects, it was hard to choose. I'm limiting myself to one round of books just from my local branch library, which was a bit of help. My current plan is: Venus and Aphrodite: A Biography of Desire [book with a star or planet in the title] and Stone Yard Devotional [book with a fork in the road or life-changing decision].

Dixie (dixietenny) | 1497 comments Like LeahS, I'm torn between many of the great reject ideas. I think for this prompt, I'll choose one that I suggested myself, A book with a desert setting, and read Jim Henson's Tale of Sand.

I am also participating in both of the reject challenges NancyJ mentions in Message 4.

And I have a few "just for fun" rejects that I'm doing as well. They are
A book related to the name (or nickname) of a professional sports team
Two books, where the second book's title provides a response to or continuation of the first book's title
A book that fits 3 other prompts
and
A book that is related to one of the group’s moderators (though my plan is to read one for each mod).

message 7: by Angie (new)

Angie | 139 comments My options (without books):

A book written in or set in the eighteenth century
A mystery without a murder or death
A book set primarily somewhere creepy or scary
A book with a musician character or author
A book with an intriguing first line

Ooh, I wonder if you could find a book that fits all of these? They feel thematic, somehow...

That would be a cool and interesting challenge!

Thanks for listing 18th century - it's my favourite period to read about, so I have plenty of options! I'm probably going with Chocolate House Treason

message 11: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3903 comments I plan to go with one that I suggested - a book exploring personal or cultural identities.

message 12: by Marie (new)

Marie | 1119 comments I've chosen A book related to iron or steel.

I'll be reading Sleeping Dogs, the latest in Russ Thomas's crime series set in Sheffield, which is also known as the Steel City. The previous book in the series, Cold Reckoning, would've been an even better fit, as a lot of the action centres around a former steelworks.

Charlsa (cjbookjunkie) | 728 comments I'm using Poll 18: A book with a character who is not alive.

The Lovely Bones

message 14: by Denise (new)

Denise | 578 comments I haven't picked a book but I voted for these rejected prompts (which is why they are rejects, the ones I vote for rarely ever win 🙁) and will probably pick a book for one of them:

18th century
Having to do wth Revolution or Declaration of Independence (it's the anniversary in 2026)
classic
biography or memoir

Maybe I'll read my copy of The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin: with Related Documents which covers all of the above reject prompts!

Ooh, clever! It's so fun to fit books into multiple prompts!

I had a lot of favorites through the voting this year, but I'm tentatively going with 'a book with a six word title'.

message 17: by Charlsa (new)

Charlsa (cjbookjunkie) | 728 comments I am using a book with a character who is not alive - Poll 18.

The Lovely Bones by [[author:Alice Sebold|316].

message 18: by Ron (new)

Ron | 24 comments There were a lot of great prompts on the list. I found 39 of them that I liked, so I had a hard time deciding.

I ultimately decided to list them with numbers and then used a number generator.

It came up with number 9.

For that one I have listed "Deals with 'It's The End of the World...'

I've been reading a lot of books for that prompt this year so I might have to do it again. LOL!

message 19: by D.L. (new)

D.L. | 250 comments Since I suggested it, I'll probably choose 'a book with twins, doppelgängers, or mistaken identity', but I also really like 'A book with a sitcom character's name in the title'.

message 20: by Ron (new)

Ron | 24 comments Okay decided to go with 'related to water or Earth' so for this one I've chosen:

When Worlds Quake: The Quest to Understand the Interior of Earth and Beyond

When Worlds Quake The Quest to Understand the Interior of Earth and Beyond by Hrvoje Tkalčić

Emily I think the links are duplicate!

Hm looks like we didn't create a listopia for this prompt! I've removed it and just left the link to the prompts that didn't make it in.

message 23: by Misty (new)

Misty | 1632 comments For this one, I am going with the only prompt I have ever suggested! (I mean, I should, right?) :) A book that deals with REM's It's the End of the World as We Know It (and I feel fine) ["eye of a hurricane"]
For this prompt I am reading: Salvage the Bones by Jesmyn Ward

message 24: by Keli (new)

Keli | 42 comments I’m going with a traditional or contemporary western. My SiL gave me a complete set of the Joe Pickett series. So I finally have a reason to not keep bumping Open Season.

message 25: by ♞ Pat (new)

♞ Pat Gent | 413 comments I plan to read The Barefoot Followers of Sweet Potato Grace

Poll #7 ~ a book with a title that follows "the ___ of ___" pattern.

message 26: by Dixie (new)

Dixie (dixietenny) | 1497 comments I love how many different reject prompts are being used for this!
