danielle (dani410) | 285 comments Question... I think I saw a note that some people might not being doing book 1 until December. True?

This is outside my normal type of book/series, but I said I would try no matter which series won. But I would rather read (listen in my case) closer to when other people will be doing this one. So, let me know! 😊🎧

Well, I need to read them in order and that can't happen if I read the first book in December.

Ok, good! I’ll have company! 😊

Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 1608 comments I already read the first one. I'll chime in here and will read the next two. I wish we had noticed this was the December book earlier🤦🏻‍♀️

The first book is a Formal BR for December. FBR's are chosen at the beginning of the year, and SBRs are voted in, and that occasionally causes an overlap, as people are free to choose whatever series they want.

You're free to read it however you want. I don't know what other people will do, but I will most likely wait until December, and maybe read them all then? If I can... lol

Thanks for explaining! I'm still new around here, so I don't think I saw that.

I'm actually going to start book 1 soon-ish (tonight or tomorrow). It works for a couple of challenge prompts I just got. I'm still TBD if I'll continue since this is way outside my wheelhouse. But I would like to give book 1 a chance at a minimum!! I'll try to share my thoughts (wrapped in spoiler tags) as I go.

Yay! I love when people read outside their norm! It's fun to do and you might find something you love!

This is my fault!! I think I started to nominate it earlier in the year and saw it was the FBR. Then, I completely forgot and nominated it anyway!

Sorry to anyone who likes to do the FBR. I'll look at the books, but I'm not sure I can read all 3 in Dec, so I'll probably start now.

danielle (dani410) | 285 comments I'm diving into book 1 today. ... zero expectations, and going in blind!

danielle (dani410) | 285 comments Ok... am working on this one... but every time I try fantasy, I'm reminded why I don't do them often. Maybe it's just a me thing. Or a limitation in my brain. Maybe it's the mix of folklore & historical fiction type. Maybe all the above.

I'll keep powering through though. Maybe it'll grow on me!😕

danielle (dani410) | 285 comments Soooo... I finished this one tonight. Didn't love it. Tried very hard since I wanted to give it a fair shot being that it's very outside my wheelhouse.

I didn't have thoughts that were... say, discussion worthy, while listening. But I'll pipe in once people start working on this one.

The most positive thing I can say is that I do like seeing a strong female character.
