The unique recipe book of the Esztergom-Budapest Archdiocese, entitled "Dishes from the Cardinals's Table", is useful both as a cultural history and a cookbook: a bridge between the past and the present. The book is a sophisticated selection of 19th century manuscript recipes in German from the Archbishop Simor Library, which have remained hidden until now, enriched with explanations and interesting facts.

Little is known about the everyday life of the prince primates of Esztergom who returned to the ancient seat and rebuilt it in the 19th century. What was their daily routine, when did they rest and what was on their table? This book seeks to answer the latter questions with the help of a historian-archivist, a gastronomy expert and a renowned chef.

The thirty-one contemporary recipes in the book provide an insight into the kitchens and dining rooms of the 19th century Archbishops of Esztergom. The dishes can be prepared according to the original recipes, most of them have recreated to suit contemporary tastes.
